Inside Access UF Coaching Candidates

It is obvious that the next few weeks will determine the fate of Coach Napier and his future with the Gators. I’m not posting any longer as my privacy was very much compromised by some idiot on this site. However i do still read on occasion, mainly for entertainment and not any information. I see speculation regarding potential coaches that UF should consider for our job, should we move on from Napier. I am close to this process…I am not sure who we hire if we have an opening, but I do have a few names that I see on these boards that will not be our next coach. They are 1) Dan Lanning…Phil knight is 87 years old, and his one want in life is to win a national championship in football. Knight personally renegotiated Lannings contract last year, and I can tell you his buyout is way closer to the Jimbo Fisher number than the $20 million reported. In addition, Lanning has been at 9 different schools/jobs in the past 12 years and his family has said thats enough. They want to grow roots in Eugene.
2) Lincoln Riley…he and the AD at USC are at odds no question. The AD is a lady that is a grinder. She expects the same out of her head coaches. Riley is far from a grinder. He probably spends as much time in Cabo as he does LA in the offseason. He could care less about defense. The biggest factor is he left OU top get out of the SEC. he wants no part of the SEC. Now that the PAC 12 has become the BIG10 he’s not thrilled with hat as well. I’d expect him to head to the NFL soon.
3) Jedd Fisch…will not elaborate on why…but no.
4) Urban Meyer…mutual no
I can tell you we do have a lot of interest in our job, if we get to that point. Some interesting names reaching out. Signing off for now.

New Story Letter From Scott Stricklin on Billy Napier

Now you see why I posted yesterday about a closed chat tonight…….

Gator Nation,

I wanted to let you know that Billy Napier will continue as head football coach of the Florida Gators.

As we've seen these past several weeks, the young men on this team represent what it means to be a Gator. Their resolve, effort and execution are evident in their performance and growth each week - building a foundation that promises greater success next season and beyond.

UF's commitment to excellence and a championship-caliber program is unwavering. In these times of change across college athletics, we are dedicated to a disciplined, stable approach that is focused on long-term, sustained success for Gator athletes, recruits and fans.

I am confident that Billy will meet the challenges and opportunities ahead. We will work alongside him to support any changes needed to elevate Gator football. As college athletics evolves, UF is committed to embracing innovation and strategy, ensuring the Gators thrive in today's competitive landscape.

Gator Nation has remained strong, showing up game after game to stand with our team. This loyalty creates an incredible environment that inspires our players to compete with heart and determination. Now, I call on all of Gator Nation to continue standing behind Billy and his dedicated team while we work together to build a championship program.

Go Gators!

Football 2025 W-L expectations

This isn't a bash Billy, Scott, or each other thread or a place to bitch and moan. We not gonna solve any problems in here, Billy is staying, that cake has been baked.

I wanna check temperature on what the bar is for Billy to remain in 2026 and beyond, and have a thread to check receipts later. For me it's simple, get to the playoffs. Idgaf what adversity arises, who gets hurt, who transfers etc etc, winners find a way to win, period. He wins enough to get to the playoffs then my totally irrelevant and inconsequential expectations will have been met.

Football What if…?

I am NOT an insider. I have no worthwhile relationships with anyone of Gator significance. All I have is time to pretend I can come up with the best strategy to bring the Gators back to relevance.

This week, Stricklin said Napier will remain the coach of the Gators. Some people read into that as a “vote of confidence” or an effort to shore up recruiting. Message board posts ranged from anger to apathy.

Since the Miami game, Lane Kiffin has been thought of as the obvious choice that Florida would pursue. Kiffin has a savvy agent and was well aware of this.

My question is this: are things all that they seem? I would agree that the Gators HAVE shown improvement and the future looks promising, if this were year two instead of year three. (That’s the basis for a different thread.). Personally I’m okay with the decision to stay with Napier because I think his first year was nearly impossible to navigate through without guesswork. It was the opening days of the NIL/transfer portal Wild Wild West and nobody knew what to expect.

Back to the point: this week the vote of confidence comes out before the Texas game (a game we expected to lose) AND before Ole Miss plays Georgia (a game that could eliminate Lane Kiffin from the playoffs.)

Could the timing of the announcement been a strategic move by Stricklin? Was Kiffin (or his agent) asking for too much, knowing/thinking he held all the cards? We put out a statement that has no real long term commitment, and wait and see if Kiffin’s negotiating position is weakened with a loss to Georgia and an elimination from the playoffs. (?). Meanwhile, Florida plays Texas where nobody following college football expects a Florida victory. The timing is brilliant IF intentional.

Of course it could backfire, and that’s not the point. But if any of this is true, my respect for Stricklin goes up.

Football What To Do? My Take on Boosters & More

What To Do? My Take on Boosters & More

I thought today would be an excellent day to review a few things I was thinking about this morning.

I want to start by providing some context with statements that got me thinking. This is in NO way, shape, or fashion calling anyone out, but rather a baseline point of reference for my thought process.

But the people who matter aren't as concerned with it. That much is obvious.

If Florida does not fire Billy Napier, they are not serious about Florida Football.

First things first. Unless you are speaking directly to one of the very few, and I mean VERY few people who will determine Coach Napier and his coach's fate moving forward, you simply can't make a statement like the ones above. We all can and should have opinions on the situation, but those statements above are false.

I don't know the exact buyout, so for the discussion, I will call it 25 Million (that is pretty close). Boosters are VERY serious about Florida football, so they have put millions upon millions into the program. To say they are not serious about football is silly, but again, this is just my opinion.

You can be very serious about Florida, the program, players, coaches, and the team's direction and still decide not to fork over that considerable amount of money. It does not mean you are not serious about Florida football because someone chose not to throw millions of dollars for a new staff.

People who can't afford to invest millions into the program might be upset or angry that those who can don't, but that is their choice. I don't see how someone can get upset with another person for not spending that kind of money. If you want to be that guy or gal, to make that kind of money, and you can.

People always talk about how angry they are against NFL owners. Be an NFL owner is all I can say, and you can do whatever you want. Make millions, and you can decide to spend that money however you like. I think it's easy for those without those means to criticize those with those opportunities. Like they always say, spending someone else's money is very easy.

Before the Georgia game, it was pretty safe to say or assume that most folks wanted a change; most still do. However, after the Georgia game, we saw a pretty significant shift, with more people saying they could see him getting another year - I can only assume this was based on two things. No. 1, the performance of the team and the way they played, and No. 2, the DJ Lagway injury, which seemingly makes the next three games nonimportant.

What is my point? The point is pretty simple - IF regular fans changed their tune and only if a little bit about bringing Billy Napier back (no matter the reason), so could the big money guys - call it human nature, if you will.

I believe there will be a clear direction for the program's future soon. However, while true, it might not be public information simultaneously.

I can't answer why or even if it should (Lagway Injury) change the Billy Napier thought process, but it appears it has just been by reading the board. Right now, the best thing to do is to be patient because I believe a decision is coming soon.

Even saying all of this could still change. Say Florida plays the next three games the way they did vs Georgia but comes up short with three close losses and then gets beat by a one-win FSU team at the end of the year. Guess what this brings right back into play: human nature.

I will leave you with this for those who want Billy Napier replaced. The biggest boosters on the UF planet might feel exactly the way you do and still decide not to spend the money they will need to replace him.

Football Urban endorses Stricklin decision

Urban Endorses Retaining Billy. Thinks CFB Season Is ‘Fantastic.'

Scott Stricklin is showing loyalty and I’m very happy for that coach because I am a Gator fan.’

They have tried to sack you a number of times, but you keep escaping the

Guillotine, coming back like a bad penny. In Las Vegas, they keep saying you are a dead man walking, but here you are again, back in the news, fighting for your job, dodging bullets and trying to find a path to go forward.

And then one day you get a lifeline. And you’re back!

Sound familiar?

No, not Donald Trump, but Billy Napier. Come to think of it, they both escaped the hatchet this week. Billy Napier is still the Florida head coach. And Donald Trump is your president. Even if you’re not happy with either, or both. So, let’s move forward.

Because there is no crying in college football, there is no “I” in the word t-e-a-m. and there shouldn’t be any Quit in The Swamp, even if you’re not happy with your new football coach.

CFB today is like what Jim Valvano once said about March Madness: “Survive and advance.”

For the rest of this Gator season, it’s about survival. Texas, LSU and then Ole Miss, with Turkey Day vs FSU sandwiched in at the end. We shall see next season about any advancement.

Some call it “Demolition Derby Season.”

People like Urban Meyer and I love it, because we’re both huge CFB fans, as we discussed Friday on SEC Sidelines/The Buddy Martin Show.

“I’m blown away,” Meyer said. “One of the greatest things that ever happened to college football is the playoffs. There are 25 teams involved and hundreds of players. But it’s much more that because there’s hope. I can’t imagine it being better. I think it’s fantastic.”

Urban feels maybe there’s not enough emphasis put on strength of schedule and that “some of these three-loss SEC teams” aren’t getting enough credit. He expects teams that didn’t play a ranked team could even be in the playoffs. If they are in the mix at the end and get a crack at higher ranked teams “we know how that would turn out.”

On the other hand, he’s still riding with Ohio State as a top contender and favorite because of their remarkable depth of talent and smack-you-in-the-mouth physicality, as it showed in last week’s big win over Penn State.

Urban also addressed Florida’s decision to bring Billy Napier back in 2025.

“I will say this about Coach Napier – I thought they were done. I don’t know really, but there really must be a decent culture because of the way they are playing. A third string quarterback and they’re spreading out against Georgia. I just hope they don’t just accept those losses.

“Scott Stricklin is showing loyalty and I’m very happy for that coach because I am a Gator fan.”

Urban agrees extending Napier was the proper play, one that had the fingerprints of super-agent Jimmy Sexton all over it.
