will ole miss make a run at Mike White?

Just because we've been speculating on PG's, I couldn't resist reminding everybody of what a former Gator PG looks like at the top of his game. I give you 'White Chocolate' himself...
Watch this,,, and live a little... :D

Top 5 Gator pgs, since I’ve been watching;

5. J Will
4. Calathes (good frosh pg)
3. Freshman year Brett Nelson (another one)
2. Wilbekin
1. Taurean Green

Florida and Tennis-sea will play multiple times for the first time since the 2013-14 season when the Gators swept the rubber dollies in 3 meetings. :p

In addition to the Gators' 3 permanent home-and-home opponents – Kentucky, Georgia and Vanderbilt – they will also see Tennessee and LSU twice next season.
The 4 single game SEC home opponents are: Ms, Mizzou, SCa, and aTm.
The 4 single game SEC away opponents are: UA, Ark, AU, and MsSt.

Hudson Back, Rejuvenated, Ready to Lead Gators

"He's just a really good offensive player (15+ PPG) who brings a lot to the team, on and off the court," Hayes said.

After a season when the Gators were a perimeter-dominated bunch, Hudson likes the potential of this team's makeup and balance. "I'm not at all worried about our front court," he said. "We're going to have five guys on our front line.

PF/C Dontay Bassett 6-9 240 So
PF/C Chase Johnson 6-9 220 rsFr
PF/C Isaiah Stokes 6-8 255 rsFr
C/PF Kevarrius Hayes 6-9 225 Sr
C Gorjok Gak 6-11 245 Jr
We're going to be deep at every position and have a roster that can do some of everything."

Doomed without the cheese? Nope, it's 'next man up' time again.

PG Andrew Nembhard leads Canada in FIBA U18 America's Opener
Canada 92 - 75 Argentina
June 10, 2018 - The Gators incoming Fr PG -- 28 Pts, 7 Rbs, 6 Asts.
~ The top four teams from the tournament earn a trip to next summer's World Cup.
~ Canada is the defending U-19 World Cup Champion.

======

And he's in addition to the returning PG that played very well last season.
PG Mike Okauru 6-3 180 So - Raleigh, N.C.

Okauru Overview:
~ He showed tremendous growth over the course of his freshman season in 11.1 Min's/Gm.
~ In 34 Gms, 1 GS, he had 130 Pts, 34 Rbs, 21 Asts, 18 Stls, 13 TO's, 2 Blks.
~ Rated a four-star prospect by ESPN and the No. 8 player out of North Carolina.
~ Came to UF as a high-motor defensive specialist, but proved his capability as a scorer.
~ Great size and athleticism with play-making ability, shot .465 overall from the floor.
~ Shot .404 from 3-point range as a freshman, hitting 19 of his 47 attempts.
~ He was a regular part of the Gators’ rotation in a deep and talented backcourt.
~ Had a scoring knack with 13 pts in his UF debut and followed with a 15-pt outing vs. Stanford.
~ He had a 14-pt effort in 14 minutes vs. UGA, giving him 3 straight games with at least 8 pts scored.
~ He made his only start in the win vs. #12 Auburn.

With these 2 PG's, and 2 more SG's that can also play PG, the back-court is set for 2018-19 imo. All 4 have proven that they can play either position (PG/SG).

SG/PG KeVaughn Allen 6-2 193 Sr ****
SG/PG Noah Locke 6-2 175 Fr **** (#14 SG)

PG/SG Mike Okauru 6-3 180 So ****

Update on the Gator 2018-19 PG situation....

Without the 'Cheese' at PG, the Gators are doomed,,,, goes the usual wheeze...
That's of course ignoring the actual roster facts...

SG/PG KeVaughn Allen 6-2 193 Sr
PG/SG Mike Okauru 6-3 180 So
#14 SG/PG Noah Locke 6-2 175 Fr ****

#3 PG/SG Andrew Nembhard 6-4 185 Fr *****
In the FIBA U18, Canada's Team Captain Nembhard averaged 15.7 Pts and 8.8 Asts as Canada earned the Silver Medal and a place in next year's FIBA U19 World Cup. -- High Points - He had 28 Pts vs Argentina, and a Double-Double 14 Pts & 17 Asts vs Puerto Rico in the semifinals....

During the tournament, Nembhard talked about why he wanted to become a Gator: "Personally, it's the coaching staff over there. It's a great group of guys, and I feel like they'll be able to push me and improve me as a player on and off the court. I feel like it's a great environment, the players and the team are really good. I feel like it's a good playing style, great school, so a lot of things came together."

Why would he leave UF to go to Ole Miss?
Exactly! He wouldn't / won't imoho.

Some thought he might be attracted there because he played his college ball there and he was a coach there early in his career. (2004-11 Assistant Coach)

Unless something incredibly out of character happens, I see White finishing his coaching career at UF, but it's still early, so we shall see how it goes...

Ole miss hoops is a pretty big step down from UF. They might pay about the same, and their facilities I think are pretty good, but for a coach who wants to win at a high level, UF pretty clearly gives you a better chance. Who was the last 5 star recruit to go to Ole Miss? The last two UF coaches left for the NBA. I don’t think Ole Miss has sent a coach there in their history.

PG Andrew Nembhard is as highly prized of a prospect as the Gators have signed recently. The Canadian native (Silver Medal Team Captain U18) who moved to Montverde Academy in Florida to play high school basketball is an explosive physical athlete and deft ball handler at a position that the Gators lost All-SEC PG Chris Chiozza.

Nembhard comes to the Gators ready to play and assume the duties of Chiozza at some point in time, but he will have to do big things to play at Chiozza’s level. And that took some time.

“I think that SG/PG KeVaughn Allen (SR), PG/SG Mike Okauru (SO), and SF/SG/PG Jalen Hudson (SR) will have something to say about Andrew stepping in of course and filling those shoes. We’ll have hopefully a lot of healthy competition there.” -- Mike White (and don't forget FNG #14 SG/PG Noah Locke)

White envisions the group as compliments of each other with each possessing different skills that he can incorporate with different personnel on the court.

PG/SG Nembhard joins fellow freshmen SG/PG Noah Locke and SF/PF Keyontae Johnson and all three are National Top 100 players in the 247Sports Top 100 for the 2018 class. -- A Mo-Balance Team for 2018-19

Football has to find a QB, while B-Ball has to find it's starting PG. Fun to watch as both of those things come about. o_O I'm looking forward to the coming B-Ball season, just as much as to football season.

Or new PG is so good of an outside shooter that he could easily play SG.
Our new SG is such a good ball handler that he could easily play PG.

And just wait til you get a load of the new SF/PF.

>>> Jumpin' Johnson <<< -- Take a dime off of the top of the backboard....
SF/PF Keyonte Johnson 6-5 209 **** - Norfolk, Va

The Florida basketball team has been training most of the offseason; both practicing and lifting, with limitations. The limitations on the former ended this week. The Summer "B" semester started Monday, which means the strength and conditioning element of the offseason program officially went next level.

Only the dummies that couldn't get into a good school, come to UF to play basketball...
SEC Academic Honor Roll:

SG/PG KeVaughn Allen
PG Andrew Fava
C Gorjok Gak
SG/SF Jalen Hudson
SG Mak Krause.- UF Degree, now Masters Degree Program Honor Roll

This is 4th time in the last 5 years the Gator men's basketball team has placed at least 5 players on the SEC Academic Honor Roll, with 8 honorees in 2014, 7 in 2015 and 5 in 2016.

--- But wait, there are 3 FNG's to add to that list ---

PG Mike Okauru So
SG/SF Deaundrae Ballard So
PF/C Isaiah Stokes rsFr

Making 8 total from Men's Basketball on the SEC Honor Roll....

Now, IF Mike White could just win at least 20+ games and make it to an Elite-8, we'd be in business... --- BillyD's total legacy is being upheld by Mike White. IMOHO, he was the perfect hire to replace BillyD at UF. ;)

I'm just wondering, after seeing the 3 FNG's, if anyone is still worried about UF's guard play for the coming season, with PG/SG Nembhard and SG/PG Locke coming in?

Gators to play Choke-la-homa to open the Battle for Atlantis.

Under New Head Coach Mike White, the Gators have finished 3rd place or better in all of their non-conference tournaments, including a runner-up performance at last season's PK80 event in Portland. UF also finished 2nd in the 2015 Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Mohegan Sun and 3rd place in the 2016 AdvoCare Classic at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

Florida previously competed in the Battle 4 Atlantis in November 2014, Billy Donovan's last season at UF, and finished in 6th place.

All Time - UF 2-0 Choker's Basketball
1-0 with Mike White (84 - 52) @ chokerville

What can UF offer any student/athlete recruit without stepping on NCAA rules?
Shands Medicine - Gatorade Science - Gator Strength, Conditioning, & Nutrition Programs - Public Ivy Education - A chance at Championships - The Gator Nation's World-Wide Network for Life.

Long Range Offers:

2011 - SG/PG Carson McCorkle 6-2 170 - Greensboro, N.C.

~ Hey Carson, UF has a great on campus 18 hole course.
For only being 6-2, this kid can sky, but he needs to develop some no look passing. ;)
His offer list is already piling up... UF Offered

I decided I needed a little break that included some good (fun) news for a change.
It's getting closer to B-Ball season, day by day.
So, how about one of the new guys on the team for 2018-19?
This should put a smile any any Gator fans face, and make their opponents cringe...

SF/PF Keyontae Johnson 6-5 225 Fr --- enjoy
:D

(this kid plays like his middle name should be magic...) ;)

Gators just added preferred walk on Alex Klatsky, who is not very much regarded, but who is teammates with five stars Bryan Antoine and Scottie Lewis at Ranney School in NJ. Both have UF offers. Antoine committed to 'Nova, but Lewis is supposed to be a Gator lean. He visited with Klatsky. Lewis gets Pippen and Kawhi Leonard comparisons because of his defense.

So it turns out Klatsky's offer is even more interesting than I thought. Not only is Klatsky a teammate of Lewis and Antoine, Klatsky's dad owns the houses that their families live in (they pay rent), and that's how they ended up at Ranney School. Klatsky Sr. is also their AAU coach.

Thanks for the heads up on Alex. What did you think of Johnson's highlights?
========

SG Alex Klatsky 6-4 185 ** - Ranney, N.J. - P-WO after his Official on Tues.
Klatsky averaged 9 pts, 2 rbs and 2 asts while shooting 43% from deep last season.
~ Not bad for a backup SG that's playing behind a 5 star rated SG with a complete game.
If Alex was playing on another team, he'd likely have gotten a little better star rating.

Said Rio and former Rutgers coach Mike Rice: “Alex Klatsky is an elite shooter who will bring valuable depth to the Florida program. He will also be an outstanding student-athlete who will take a leadership role off the floor as well. Great programs are always looking for winners both on and off the floor and Alex certainly fits into that category."

“It has been my lifetime dream to be a Florida Gator,” Alex said. “Coach Mike White and his staff have done a tremendous job there and they feel that I can help their program out over the course of my career. Florida is somewhere I can thrive both athletically and academically, which ultimately led me to my decision. I can’t wait to get onto campus next year and contribute everything I can."

I like the looks of all these guys. White is really getting UF in the mix and seems to be generating a lot of interest, and is starting to get his share of the blue chippers. It really is a similar feel to young Billy D.

ESPN Scouting Report: He plays PG in HS, but Cade is a versatile forward that can play either the 3 or the 4. He is a natural wing that has a distinct ability to score the basketball. His toughness and athletic ability allow him to play some PF also when needed.

He's #2 in the White

247 Top 40 (38) C/PF Omar Payne 6-9 215 ****

Payne's connection with head coach Mike White was one of several reasons for the commitment.

"I can help them because I spread the floor a little bit," said Payne. "I can play the four and the five. I can guard the four and the five. I work hard. I’m versatile. I can switch on defense. I have a good motor. They recruited me hard. They have a great coaching staff. I really liked their recruiting class too and I’m looking forward to getting a national championship. I like the environment and the players. When I took the trip, it was different. The players, I felt like I had a connection with them when I went there.I know I can sit down with coach White and be comfortable and that really stuck out to me. What sticks out the most to me is he’s a young coach. He’s more understanding. He’s a great, understanding dude. He's high-energy and works hard every day," Payne said.

IF Mike adds this SF as his 4th in the class, it will be one of the best classes ever.
With the super 2018 class and the coming 2019 class, a NC is not a 'stretch' hope anymore, it's fast becoming a real possibility. Final-4's at least imo. :)

Recruiting analysts considered #3 PG Nembhard one of the best (if not the best) pure passers in the 2018 signing class. -- But can a true Fr lead a team as the starting PG?

One of the first questions put to Coach Mike White during Tuesday's annual basketball media day focused on first-year PG's and whether White, set to enter his 4th season leading the Gators and 8th as a collegiate coach, had ever entrusted a freshman to run one of his teams. -- White tossed out the name Speedy Smith (2011 NR 0 stars).
"He's a big reason why I'm at Florida today,"
he said.

All Smith did was have a staggering 858 assists over the next 4 seasons — twice leading the NCAA in that category — and helped White and his Bulldogs win 101 games in 4 years.
(the 'Cheez' holds the UF Career Assists Record with 571 Assists)

iG - Well, a 6-5 'Jason Williams' type of PG would be pretty sweet, with the 'Cheez' departing.
Join in and enjoy the pre-season PG hype here:

I'm really liking the size, depth, and versatility of Coach Mike White's 2018-19 team.
~ One pure PG, but 5-6 that can run the point if/when needed.
~ 6 that can play SG.
~ 5 that can play SF.
~ 5 that can play PF
~ One pure C, and 2-3 more that can play at the center if/when needed.

SG/PG KeVaughn Allen 6-2 193 Sr
#14 SG/PG Noah Locke 6-2 205 Fr

PG/SG Mike Okauru 6-3 184 So - 40.4% 3 Pt (off-season most improved player)

SG/SF Deaundrae Ballard 6-5 197 So

PF Dontay Bassett is out for 2-4 weeks with an Ankle sprain. :(

Do they have protective ankle braces, like the knee braces that they have for football players?

If not, someone could make millions coming up with one that works...
And speaking of knee braces, the B-Ball players could use some of those designed for B-Ball players too.

They do have ankle braces that work but players don’t like them because they transfer the instability to the knee. Some players wear them though.
