will ole miss make a run at Mike White?

This has to be the worst shooting Gator team I can ever remember. 1 for 10 from three so far. We are shooting 23% from three this year, and barely 40% from the field. Crazy. 20 points in the first half. Ugly.
Look what I posted in this thread a long long time ago.

Mike White isn’t a good coach. He has no idea how to run an offense. He’s set offensive basketball back 50 years. I like the guy but he just doesn’t have a clue.

There was never one second in this game where I thought we might win.

I'm starting to agree about White. Let's be clear, this is a bad Uconn team we just lost to. They will most likely have a losing record this year. Like I've said, with the athletes we have we should be pressing and running. And why did we wait so long to get the big 300 pounder in there? He actually did well, just got winded. I saw a stat where we are last in the ncaa in FG %? Did I read that right? Oh well. When does baseball season start?

Please can we let Ole Miss take him? If I was Stricklin I encourage White to take that job.
I posted the above on February 17, 2018. Long time ago. He’s not a good enough coach to be coaching at a place like UF. He has no clue on how to run an offense and his daddy has helped him get to where he’s at.

OTOH, his recruiting has improved, which is such a huge part of basketball success. Maybe he needs better assistants. Unless it's the assistants who are the good recruiters, then I don't know what to tell you.

The shots will start falling. The game is still a little fast for the freshman right now. No reason to panic.

The #6 team in the nation goes 2-2 against 4 unranked teams who will not be ranked this year with a bad St. Josephs team up next. St. Joes is 2-2, with double digit losses to Old Dominion and Illinois-Chicago and wins over Bradley & UConn. We are averaging 62.5 ppg, shooting .384 from the field, .241 for 3's. 43 assists vs. 47 turnovers, 17 steals while giving up 23 steals. We have a +2 rebounding margin against these 4 teams. Our 5 guards (Nembhard, Mann, Lewis, Locke & Glover) are 14/64 from beyond the arc. We play disorganized, with little purpose on offense and it looks like these guys are just now starting to play together - like the preseason practices were a waste of time. We will probably (and should) drop out of the Top 25 this week and the start to this season is an absolute embarrassment to the university and should be to the coach. I give credit to Mike White for getting all these guys in Gainesville, but unless he does something special with them this year and/or next, he won't last because no other elite players will come. It's not too late to turn things around, but after only 4 games I'm already extremely disappointed.

We’ve played poorly in all 4 games. Neither FSU or UCONN are any good either.

White did not deserve the job In the first place

This was a “Foley” special along the lines of Muschamp and mcelwain..

really nice guy and he’s got the E8 Under his belt but not much other than that.. he’s recruiting really well, so I don’t know what the answer is.
He’s a mid major guy, shouldn’t be heading up one of the top 6-7 programs of the last 20 years.

I wonder what making the NIT with this group would look like? Would he be on the hot seat next season?
Does it even matter now than Dan has it rolling in football?

Frustrating. The team doesn’t even look like they practice on the offensive side of the ball

The interesting thing is we look identical to his last 3 teams. Different players, but it's the same team. At this point it is no doubt on White. He has improved recruiting, but we are still the same crappy shooting half court offensive team.

White has a poor offensive system and in addition to that he doesn’t know how to adjust his offense to fit the strengths of the players he recruited.

I gotta believe if Scottie Lewis and Tre Mann had gone to Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, etc. they would be lighting it up already. 5 star freshmen come into college every year and most don't need an "adjustment" period. They're put in an offensive system that maximizes their skill sets and are allowed to cut loose. There's, also, an enthusiasm and energy level at the big time schools that the coaches and players demand of each other that I don't see at Florida.

I like the guy and want him to succeed. I couldn’t say the same about Muschamp or McElwain. However I don’t have a lot of confidence in Mike White as a basketball coach at the moment.

IMO he’s really only had 1 good year out of 4 and year 5 has not started out well at all. We have looked bad in all 4 games so far. FSU and UCONN aren’t good teams.

He is our Ron Zook - all recruit/no adjustment. Good coaches do two things:
Adapt system to players - adjust with development
Or
Recruit players that meet your systems need (see Wisconsin)
Billy adjusted his style to fit the roster skill set. We should be a press defense/fast paced offense until the young guys learn to play a half court set offense. Frustrating to watch Coach White insist his players play a half court offense while the players are unable to execute. I believe he has watched Hoosiers to often to know any better.

Last year he said we had to slow the game down based on our personnel, ok, so what was the excuse the year before and what is the excuse this year? He's still playing a slow down game. Let these kids get out in open court and run...

U/Conn went 16-17 last season. It was not a good team then and itis very debatable that it is better this season.
But they did manage to Have the Lizzerds score 1 more 3 pointer,

The Mighty Whites should not have a team like U/Conn beating them by going small. They out rebounded White's Boyz by only 1. But they managed to grab 12 offensive rebounds to U-f's 8

U/Conn had in addition to 4 more offensive rebounds
They had 2 more assists
They had 3 more steals
They had 1 more Block
They had 4 fewer T/Os
They had 7 fewer fouls committed

The #16 Swamp Donkeys put U/Conn on the F/T line 22 times. They made 16 of them.

The # 16 Swamp Donkeys who seem not to be playing a team sport. More like asphalt jungle Basketball. Every man out for himself. Nembhard is the ONLY person on your team who will dish the ball to others when they have gotten set up for a basket. Nobody else makes any effort.

Except that 1/2 of their missed shots were wide open looks.
You're the clueless one, as usual...

4 Consecutive 20+ win seasons.
NIT, then 3 Consecutive NCAA's
1 Elite-8, ZERO 1 & Dones.
SEC CoY (MWC CoY & C-USA CoY)
2019 #6 Recruiting Class.
So after 4 games with 8 new players on the team, lets just give up and fire his azz....

But just like with Mullen's hring and Trask starting, the whining/sniveling bandwagons will be back when this worm turns,,, and I'll remember and call them out on it yet again... o_O

To the chemo mouth-foamer, you seem to recover if you think that you can take a swing at the Gators. Inverse Bandwagon...

The Tip-Off on a Mad-Dog-dollie is this.
Gator fans were hoping that Butch Jones would get a contract extension.
But the MD-d wants to see terrible Mike White run outta G'ville...
==========

Last years U-Conn 16-17 team is not the one UF played on Sunday.
~ White took over a 16-17 BillyD team and took them to a 20 win NIT quarter final.

The Gators played the new U-Conn team with 4 experienced returning starters.
So, how has U-Conn done in their 1st 4 games?
1. 103 - 64
2. 89 - 67
3. 87 - 96
They came in averaging 93 Pts/gm o_O
4. 62 - 59 (held to 31 pts below their scoring average)

Gators defense in 4 games so far:
59-63-60-62 = 244 = 61 pts/gm

As to coaching,,, you can coach defense, and you can get players in positions to score on offense.
After than, the shooters have to put the ball in the basket, and that's on the players...

Doesn't help when it seems like Nembhard, Johnson and Locke are regressing the same way Allen and Hudson did last season. Hopefully the game slows down for our Sophs, again.

Takes a real man to make fun of someone battling cancer. Your day is coming you miserable shit eating dog.

I don't want Mighty Whitey to leave F-U. Barnes thumps him on a regular basis. Pleased keep him there from now on.

All that crowing over the Mighty Whitey's incoming class from you,:p Max/Preps, Athlon and the like about how he was going to challenge Calipari for the SECC and how UT, after losing 4 of their starting 5 from last season to the NBA would be lucky to finish 6th. Seems I recall a similar boast from you 2 years ago when Althon claimed F-U would win.
the SEC in Men's basketball and UT would finish 13th.

REMEMBER that one? UT wins the SECC and F-U finished in the middle of the Also Rans.:D

TEAMWORK:rolleyes: and discipline gets you wins. `All the 5 stars in the world do no good at all if individuals refuse to PASS the ball to teammates who have better chances of scoring:eek:.

Thank Mighty White for me for vacating the TOP 25 and letting Undefeated ( after knocking off #20 Washington on the road this weekend)UT move into it.

Then on top of it all, all that money Calipari spent on his 1 & Dones and they choke at home to 28 point underdog Evansville.

Yet it is ok for you to make fun of someone? Got it!

Barnes is a good coach until March comes around. Good luck with Barnes.

I hope you have a full recovery.

Ahhh yes, regular season rick. You vol fans will be able to pound your bird chests right up until about mid march, then ole ricky boy will have y'all looking forward to spring football...lots of hoops season left. How far have the vols gone in he ncaa tourney?

I wouldn't even know about chemo if someone hadn't used it as his excuse for disappearing during the rubber-dollies football season. Takes a real man to come to a Gator board and then snivel and whine about being sick after months of mouthing off AGAIN about how great that ruber-dollie phootball team was going to be. And don't I recall you telling us about all of those top rated classes that ole BJ brought in? Both sides of that forked tongue mouth, as usual. o_O

Do let me know when tennis-sea wins ANY NC in ANY sport this century....

PS
I said after the FSU game that the Gators should not be ranked in the Top 25, and now they aren't. --- No Worries Mates.... It only matters where they are come March, and that's yet to be seen.

Gator fans will have patients, while the bandwagons gates will rant and rave, and then they'll act like they were on board all along when the Gator start winning... (typical)

Edit PS

Knowing what a talent laden team this is, sometimes we may forget that there are eight new guys on the team trying to figure out the scheme, a lot of them playing against college teams for the first time, and then trying to play together for the first time. It does take some time for that to work. It is hard to argue that things should look better than they do, but there is a lot to develop in terms of chemistry.

Thursday at 2 PM on ESPN-2....

Nice first half against St Joe, bad second half but we hung on for a much needed win. We played fast and loose in the first half but then we went back to our slow down half court game in the 2nd. Got the canes at noon tomorrow.

Blackshear has to stay out of foul trouble. We need him on the court as much as possible. K Johnson had a monster game. Locke finally hit some 3's, but hurt us several times on defense. How many layups did Nembhard miss? We had more turnovers than assists and are in the negative in this category for the first 5 games. That indicates little ball movement and ending the possession with either a jacked up 3 or too much one on one play. They played tight and not to lose the 2nd half, as opposed to free and aggressive the 1st half. But they beat a team that hammered UConn, so that's good.

2nd half we went back to Nembhard dribbling while everyone else stood around.

I really think Nembhard dribbling down the shot clock with his back to the basket is what Mike White wants. He’s got to come up with something better. He gets paid too well for that to be his offense.

UF 70 - 62 St Joe

Key-Tae (iG's lable) remains my favorite Gator B-Baller. He's just fun to watch play. :D
Keyontae Johnson vs St.Joe - Double-Double 22-12
37 Min -
22 Pts, 9/15 FG, 2/5 3's, 2/5 FT, 12 Rb, 1 Ast, 2 TO, 2 Blk

Nembhard - 33 Min - 16 Pts, 6/19 FG, 2/7 3's, 2/2 FT, 6 Rb, 2 Ast, 3 TO, 1 Stl

Locke - 37 Min - 13 Pts, 4/9 FG, 3/7 3's, 2/2 FT, 4 Rb, 2 Ast, 2 TO, 1 Stl

The 3 Super-Soph's carried the team.

-----

Lewis - 30 Min - 8 Pts, 2/4 FG, 0/1 3's, 4/6 FT, 4 Rb 2 TO, 2 Blk, 2 Stl

Payne - 26 Min - 4 Pts, 1/3 FG, 2/3 FT, 9 Rb, 1 Ast, 0 TO, 3 Blk

Glover - 20 Min - 6 Pts, 2/5 FG, 0/2 3's, 2/3 FT, 0 Ast, 1 TO.

Bassett - 10 Min - 2 Rb, 1 TO, 2 Blk -- Glad he's coming back.

Blackshear - 5 Min - 1 Pt, 1/2 FT, 2 Rb, 3 Ast, 1 TO, 1 Blk -- Ejected

Team Shooteing - 24/55 43.6% FG -- 7/22 31.8% 3's -- 15/.23 65.2?% FT

The teams shooting % is finally beginning to heat up a little,,,, thank gawd!

As to Blackshears ejection, he was being double team mugged with slap fouls on both arms. Neither of the defenders had their hands on the ball and were so close to him that he couldn't move. Had the officials called the 1st foul, blown the whistle, and jumped in to stop the mugging, then the St. Joe player would have never gotten an elbow to his chin. The refs kept St.Joe in the game and stopped a Gator Blow-Out. More game officials BS bias. Just an iG W-a-G here, but maybe the slow-down in play was Mike's attempt to take the officials out of the game somewhat???

Incompetent - Corrupt - Biased (take your pick) - Game Officials are destroying College sports imoho....

They played closer to their potential today vs. Miami in a 20 point win. Great 2nd half defense and they moved the ball much better most of the time. Nembhard and Glover had too many turnovers running point, but overall it was a solid team win. Blackshear was great, Lewis was excellent, Payne & Johnson had their moments, too. The box score hasn;t posted yet, but it could be our first game where we had more assists than turnovers.

Our best game year to date easily. The Miami point guard is really good and gave our guards problems. KB was outstanding, Keyante played solid, and Scottie is starting to figure things out. Naturally shooting the ball better has helped too. Any idea on where Mann has been the last 2 games? Looks like he may be hurt?

Mann has a concussion from the elbow he took in the UConn game.

I saw him on the sidelines today with the team. I imagine he'll not play tomorrow either and will be cleared for their next game on the 29th at home against Marshall.
