will ole miss make a run at Mike White?

2nd game on Nov 10th is FSU in the O'Dome.

Dec. 21st - The Orange Bowl Classic, 4 teams. UF vs UtahSt & FSU vs USF

The Utah-Aggies return 4 starters, including MWC PoY - AP AA Sam Merrill, and MWC Fr-o-Yr - Defensive PoY Neemias Queta.

This marks the 12th regular season game on UF's regular season schedule against a 2019 NCAA Tournament team
, with the possibility of adding yet another at the Charleston Classic.

Anyone want to whine about the quality of Mike White's schedule for 2019-20?

BTW, and just a little FYI....

The new roster (mix of old and new) seems to already be gelin' with each other.
Watching how they blend and come together across the coming season is gonna be some real fun I'm betting. :D

C/PF Kerry Blackshear 6-10 242 Grad-Sr (VaT) has arrived in Gainesville.
"Everyone is happy that he came here," said Bassett, who along with center Gorjok Gak will be off-campus roommates with Blackshear this season. "We all get along with each other, but we also compete against each other. The goal is to get better every day, individually and as a team."
Describe Kerry == Grown-man approach. Team-first approach.

It'll be a highly anticipated season, to be sure, with several national college basketball analysts already placing lofty expectations on a team that will return just four players from last season's 20-16 squad that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Florida, because of the late addition of Blackshear, will enter 2019-20 as a fashionable pick to win the SEC-C and make a deep tournament run.

Jus-damn, sounds a lot like what iG's been saying, glad they agree.;) -- :D

Already looking ahead to the 2019-20 season in college basketball, spots like ESPN have their “way too early” rankings slotted for next year. Many NBA Draft decisions and coaching carousel moves still have to take place, but some teams are already building up to potential big seasons.

25. Tennis-sea, before they lost Williams....

19. Florida Gators — Florida lost some numbers, but have the kind of recruiting class that could change things in a big way if they develop quickly enough. The Gators rank sixth nationally in the 247Sports Composite.

ESPN says, “How will Mike White replace them? He has one of the better recruiting classes in the country, led by five SF Scottie Lewis, McDonald's All-American PG Tre Mann and top-50 big Omar Payne.
(All 3 Top 50's, Mann and Lewis both MickyD's and 5 stars)

This was before Mike added several more including Grad-xfer Blackshear to the class...

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The first official practice of the 2019-20 season is just a month away, but the Florida basketball team — remade, retooled and refurbished with nine new players — has been hard at work during summer workouts for weeks.

The ninth player, PG Tyree Appleby, arrived just 2 weeks ago for the start of the "B" semester and moved in with another newbie: SF Anthony Duruji (2017-18 Conference USA Freshman of the Year). The two hit it off immediately. Good thing, too, because neither will suit up or take the floor until the '20-21 season and thus will have a lot of time on their hands when the team is out of town. "I think it's going to make us hungrier for next year," Appleby said. "We're here now, and we both know we can play at this level."

Why Mike White and Florida? They liked what they heard and have done everything asked since joining the program as part of a roster overhaul that saw 5 of the '18-19 players transfer (one in December, 4 after the season) and the culture in the building made a seismic shift through the attrition.

So, is Mike White any good as the Gator's B-Ball coach?

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida basketball program is one of two SEC teams (along with powerhouse Kentucky) to reach the NCAA Tournament each of the last three seasons and one of just 10 among the nation's so-called "power" conferences to win at least one game in each of those years. The Gators have done so despite a run of bad luck relative to front court personnel and, frankly, without overwhelming talent. o_O

Preseason Basketball Primery
Media day is one week away. The first official practice is 10 days away. The 2019-20 regular-season opener, when the Florida Gators are all but certain to be ranked in the Top 10, is seven weeks from today.

Sophomore PG Andrew Nembhard, who finished fifth in the SEC in assists as a freshman, returns after starting all 36 games for the Gators last season, followed by an off-season of playing against pros during his dalliance with the NBA Draft and with Team Canada and FIBA World Cup.

The Florida basketball program certainly has some positive momentum heading into the season; after a recruiting class that included two five-star (MickyD AA) players and the addition of the nation’s best graduate transfer, some are starting to call the Gators a Final Four contender.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Sept 23, 2019 — After a recent practice, Florida basketball's two prized freshmen stopped for a brief courtside chat. Scottie Lewis and Tre Mann recalled when they first became aware of one another. They talked about five-star hype, touched on both individual and team expectations, as well as the need for humility and confidence in their first season as collegiate players. They also talked about winning championships. -- "That's why we came here," Mann said.
(That's plural >championships< and tough to do if you're a 'One & Done' to the NBA)

Here's to hoping that they both (all) want to go through life as 'UF Grad Alumni' and 'Monuments' to the Gator Nation.

THIS RIGHT HERE, IS WHAT I'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT FOR MONTHS!!!

"We're going to be a very hard team to guard, with how fast we are, how athletic we are and with our ability to score the ball at all three levels," said Lewis, describing a team very different from the one that was 344th in Division I (out of 353) in pace-of-play last season. "We have extreme athletes all over the place. The way we've flipped the switch, flipped the script, from what it was to what it is now, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say it's a very exciting time here. We're extremely hungry for the season to start."

My one disappointment in that story from Chris Harry is him putting a positive spin on leaving early.

"Neither Lewis nor Mann figure to be around that long, (in who's opinion) with Florida's thin track record of so-called "one-and-dones" (two in program history; none since Bradley Beal in 2012) is likely to be beefed up in 2020."

I'd say that Florida's lack of 'one & dones' is a very positive thing for the student-athletes, for UF, and for college basketball. Mann and Lewis should instead continue UF's scarcity of those poor decision bolts to the NBA.

For any of them in any sport that do chose to leave early, I hope that they will come back to finish their degrees at some point and over time. A sheepskin still beats a ring imoho, but getting both is best of all...

PS
And I'll proudly continue to be the driver of this Gator B-Ball Bandwagon... :D

Great Expectations Greet Gators at Media day:

The mix of talented experience and scintillating newcomers has made for some high-level mini-practices and workouts the last couple months. This a far more athletic team, a much higher-energy team, and worlds-different communicative team than the last two versions. The '19-20 Gators potentially could be multiple in the way they attack on offense and positively elite in how they defend. -- "With so many new guys, it'll be a process," Nembhard said. "If we trust that process and build our culture, we have a chance to be a really good team. Really good."

"I don't blame whoever is out there saying we've got a chance to be pretty good," White, who has guided the program to 4 straight 20-win seasons, an NIT, and then 3 consecutive NCAA tournaments, said during his news conference. "It is what it is. We've got a pretty good roster. It's a good problem to have. That said, we haven't even been through a [fall] practice yet. We have no idea who's going to start, who's going to score for us, who's going to be our best defensive player. All the ingredients that exist in really good teams remain to be seen with this team. Toughness. Maturity. Experience. Who's going to lead us. Consistency. Work ethic. I could go on and on and on."
In time, he just may grow to love it.
But he left off with this. ----- "Do I like our roster? Yeah.":)

All of them have had their moments thus far in workouts and pickup; some of it highlight-reel stuff.

"The fact that a guy can have a great day, then another guy can have a great day, then a different guy the next, it just means we have guys working and preparing and it's all carrying over," said Lewis, the 6-5, 185-pound do-it-all wing. "We're pushing each other to be great individually, so we can be great collectively."

The pushing (mixed in with some shoving, a bunch of running and a ton of competing) goes next level Friday.

To give a definitive answer to the original question posed at the start of this thread...o_O

With his four 20+ win seasons, an NIT and then 3 consecutive NCAA's with an Elite-8 among them and zero 1 & dones, things can change for the better, and iG is thrilled to see it happen for him,,, and for us. :)

Florida basketball coach Mike White is about to begin his fifth season in charge of the program, ready to do so with his most talented squad yet. He'll also do it knowing full well the Gators are committed to him for the long haul.

According to documents released by the University Athletic Association on Friday, White signed a two-year contract extension on May 14. With the extension comes a raise of a little more than $250,000 per year, bringing White's average annual salary to a little more than $3.011 million over the life of his seven-year deal. Mike is now under contract to coach Florida through the 2024-25 basketball season.

PF Osayl Osifo 6-8 215 - Cocoa, FL -- JuCo with raw athleticism and a 7'-1 wingspan.
Osifo was reached late Sunday and shared his thoughts on the commitment, letting on that that the 6-8, 215 athletic PF is very high on the education he will get at Florida. Great culture , the coaching staff is very much like family to each other and their players,” Osifo told Swamp247. “The academic advantages of going to UF alone are good enough for you to be glad to be a student not to (mention) being an athlete on top of that."

20 PG AJ Hoggard 6-3 185 Sets Decision Day, Gators In The Mix
Mike White and his coaching staff have been absolute grinders on the recruiting trail in their time at Florida and it has resulted in some great gets in races where analysts had the Gators ruled out but they defied the odds. We could have another come from behind victory coming up soon (Oct. 6th) with the Gators trending positively for PG AJ Hoggard, the 71st ranked player in 2020 who has long been considered to be heading to Michigan State. At 71st in the class he’s certainly getting respect but I think that number could be low and he could offer upside even greater than 71st overall.

https://www.gatorcountry.com/florid...-hoggard-sets-decision-day-gators-in-the-mix/

Gators Gaining Steam In Race For 2020 CG/SF Niels Lane 6-5 195.
An x-factor in his recruitment is Lane’s close friendship with Scottie Lewis. They’ve been tight for a number of years and Lewis has been pushing for Lane to come to Florida. Considering it’s almost certain Lewis isn’t sticking around for another year to play with Lane it’s fantastic he’s still working as a primary recruiter here and it shows just how much Lewis thinks of Florida already. Lane's decision is slated for Oct. 8th, his birthday.

To the coach Mike White's Nay-sayers.....o_O
He can't coach, he can''t win, and he can't recruit a lick,,, so why did they (AD-UAA) give him a nice raise and an extension for 7 more years? ----- :p

With all of the injuries to Keith Stone, John Egbunu, Chase Johnson, Gorjok Gak, Isaiah Stokes, and others hampering the lineup, how has Mike White managed to win 20+ games every season (4), especially playing the tough schedules that he's played? o_O

Of course and thank-gawd, that's looking to change in a very positive way this year with a full and healthy roster. I'm thinking that they will have a regular rotation of 7-8 players, with as many as 9-12 getting at least some playing time in many of the games.

Something I really liked about BillyD is when his starters weren't getting it done and didn't seem to be talking to each other or listening to him. He pulled all 5 starters off the floor and put in the next 5. The results of that?

The backups actually opened up the score spread, playing like their hair was on fire. The starters were getting coached up on the bench and realized that they could be replaced. This opened up their ears, got them talking to each other, and when they were put back in the game they showed a very different attitude about what they were doing. BINGO!

I like playing the whole 'team' whenever possible for many positive reasons. Depth building, keeping everyone engaged in games and in practice, building team camaraderie, (no starter vs scrub negativity) and building for the next season, because some players leave almost every year.

I'm really looking forward to the coming season. Very high interest levels....

This is a pretty good interview with him to give you an idea on the why.

Sophomore shooting guard Noah Locke's voice carries a lot of weight on a UF team teeming with leadership. He only started 26 games, and he was slowed in the final month of the season with a groin injury, but he still holds the UF Fr record for made 3's (81).
He's also the primary defender on the Gator full court press.

"Noah has been unbelievable," White said. "He's been as consistent as anyone during this first week of practice, as vocal as anyone and become more accountable, smarter and more mature. He's in a great place right now, and has a chance to be a high-level leader at the University of Florida."

A very good read...
