Vandy takes down the Gators in men's SEC golf championship 3-2. Very close match. Both teams are very highly ranked and could see each other again at the NCAAs.

UF's Men's Golf team is ranked #15 the last I saw, Vanderbilt #3. The Gator Women's Golf team, also, finished runner-up in their SEC tournament last weekend and are ranked #10.

The Gator Men's Tennis team won the SEC tournament today, beating Kentucky in the finals 4-0. After winning the doubles point, they won the first 3 completed singles matches in straight sets to win a fairly easy victory. They now await their seeding and pairing in the NCAA tournament, with the Regionals starting May 6. This is a team that has a chance to repeat as national champs.

Yep, I believe that's correct. Good showing by the ladies and men.

#9 Gator lacrosse won their 10th straight match tonight beating #22 Jacksonville 12-6 to go to 12-4 overall. The Gators got balance scoring and solid goalkeeping, controlling the game from the start and steadily increasing their lead. They finish their regular season at East Carolina Saturday at 11 am.

Gator Lacrosse finished their regular by winning at East Carolina 16-4, their 11th straight victory and improving their season record to 13-4 heading to the AAC tournament next weekend at East Carolina. Florida outscored the Pirates 4-0 in the 1st quarter, extended their lead to 10-0 at halftime and cruised to the easy win. They dominated Draw Controls 16-7 and outshot East Carolina 37-21. 10 different Gators scored as 25 players saw action on the field. This is a much improved team from the beginning of the season, but it remains to be seen how far they can advance in the NCAA tournament. They were ranked #9 this week, #6 in the RPI and we'll see if that improves if they can sweep through the AAC tournament. They have win over #3 Syracuse, a close loss to #1 North Carolina to open the season, a bad loss to #4 Maryland in their second game of the year, a 1 point loss to #6 Stony Brook in their 3rd game and a 3 point loss to #8 Loyola (Md.) in their 5th game. That loss was on March 11 and they are undefeated since.

#2 Men's Tennis opened NCAA tournament play this afternoon by beating New Orleans 4-0 and will next face Miami (17-9), who beat USF 4-3, for the right to go to the Sweet 16. The Gators won the doubles point 6-2, 6-2, 6-2, then won the first 3 completed singles matches to end the day. Sam Riffice won at #2 singles 6-0, 6-1, then Duarte Vale won at #3 singles 6-0, 6-1. Josh Goodger won at #6 singles 6-1, 6-1 to end the match.

#8 UF Lacrosse won the AAC conference tournament Saturday by beating Vanderbilt 18-7 in the finals. Vandy scored first and played the Gators tough through the first quarter, with UF leading 4-3 after the first 15 minutes. Florida increased their lead to 9-4 at half and then steadily pulled away during the 2nd half. Florida won the draw control battle 19-9 and were led in scoring by Danielle Pavinelli, who had 6 goals and an assist. At 15-4, the Gators will await their seeding and bracket for the NCAA tournament, which begins May 13.

UF Women's Tennis easily won their opening match in the NCAA tournament, beating South Alabama(22-5) 4-0. Improving their record to 20-6, UF won the doubles point 6-2, 6-4. Alicia Dudeney won the first singles point at #3, 6-0, 6-0. McCartney Kessler won at #1 singles 6-0, 6-1 and Sara Dahlstrom won at #5 singles 6-1, 6-0 to close out the match very quickly on a hot afternoon. The Gators will meet FSU (15-10) Sunday at 1 pm for the right to advance to the Sweet 16. In two previous meetings this year, Florida has beaten FSU 4-0 & 4-1. The problem with being the #16 seed is that if they beat FSU, they likely meet up with #1 North Carolina. Ruh-Ro.

#8, #5 RPI Florida Women's Lacrosse (16-4) opened the NCAA tournament with a 19-12 win over unranked, #34 RPI Mercer (14-5). The Gators had beaten the Bears 19-5 on March 30, but were given a tougher match today. The Gators only led 5-4 after the 1st quarter, 10-6 at halftime. They never trailed and had plenty of offensive production today, but struggled more than usual on the defensive end. Their excellent goalkeeper, Sarah Reznick, came into the match with a .498 save percentage, but only saved 31% of the shots on goal today. Florida dominated draw controls 22-13, fouls were basically even and the Gators had 5 fewer turnovers. They were led in scoring by sophomore Ashley Gonzalez with 5 goals and an assist, followed by sophomore Danielle Pavinelli's 4 goals and super freshman Emma Lopinto's 3 goals and 3 assists. 5 other Gators scored. On Sunday at 4 pm, Florida will face the winner of the Jacksonville (13-4, #17, #21 RPI) and Stanford (12-6, #14, #26 RPI) match for the right to advance to the Sweet 16.

UF Women's Tennis ended their season 21-7 in their Sweet 16 loss at #1 North Carolina this afternoon. They got blitzed 4-0, losing the doubles point 1-6, 1-6 to quickly fall behind. Emma Shelton got beat 1st, at #1 singles 0-6, 2-6; then Marlee Zein went down at #2 singles 1-6, 3-6. The match ended when Carly Briggs lost at #4 singles 4-6, 5-7. Although the Gators showed improvement over the last couple of years, this match showed how much further they need to go to get back into that elite status of Women's College Tennis where they were for so many years, having won 7 national titles (the last in 2017) and finished national runner-up 7 other times.

Jacksonville beat Stanford in lacrosse 20-8 and will face the Gators Sunday for a berth in the Sweet 16. Gators beat Jax fairly easily a couple of weeks ago.

UF Men's Tennis moved to the Elite 8 for the 4th straight year after sweeping North Carolina 4-0 in a match that was much tighter than the final score shows. In the doubles match, the Tar Heels won the first completed game 6-2, but the Gators came back to win the 2nd game 6-4. In the deciding set, the Gators were down 4-5 and 5-6 before coming back to force the deciding point and winning 7-6 to give Florida the 1-0 edge. Ben Shelton quickly won his #1 singles match 6-0, 6-1 and the Josh Goodger won at #6 singles 6-1, 6-2 to put UF up 3-0. The Gators were in very tight matches at #2, 3, 4 & 5 singles, but Duarte Vale won at #3 6-4, 76 (7-3) to give the Gators the sweep and send them to the next round where they will face #7 Virginia, who beat #10 South Carolina 4-0.

Gator women claimed the SEC outdoor track title by 4 points over Arky. Great showing by the ladies. The men finished 4th, but won both the 4x1 and 4x4 relays. NCAA east regionals next. Gator men are built more for the national championships in a couple of weeks. Lady Gators have a great shot to claim the natty.

#7 UF lacrosse (17-4) advanced to the Elite 8 Sunday afternoon with a tough fought 15-10 win over #17 Jacksonville. The Gators had beaten the Dolphins 12-6 4/27. This was Florida's 15th straight win as they head to a match with #2 Maryland with a trip to the Final 4 on the line. Maryland beat UF handily 18-8 in the 3rd game of the season, but the Gators are much improved since that time. Today, Gator goalie Sarah Resnick was great, saving .545 of the shots against her. Jax had a 17-12 edge on draw controls, which is very unuisual for the Gators, as they normally win that battle. On offense, the Gators were led by Danielle Pavinelli's 5 goals and 1 assist, Maggie Hall's 2 goals and 2 assists, Josie Hahn's 3 goals, and 2 goals each from Emma Lopinto and Josie Eagan. All of the Top 8 seeds have advanced to the Final 8, with the 5/19 winner of the UF/MD match taking on the winner between Boston College & Loyola of Maryland.
