Former President Donald Trump blasted Gov. Ron DeSantis for wanting to give insurance companies widespread protections from lawsuits, calling it “the worst Insurance Scam in the entire Country!”

Taking to Truth Social just after midnight, Trump said Thursday Floridians are getting “crushed” by their insurance companies.

“Ron DeSanctimonious is delivering the biggest insurance company BAILOUT to Globalist Insurance Companies, IN HISTORY,” Trump wrote. “He’s also crushed Florida homeowners whose houses were destroyed in the Hurricane — They’re getting pennies on the dollar.”

DeSantis has supported House Bill 837, one of the priorities of House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, and the companion Senate Bill 236. That legislation would make it harder for Floridians to sue their insurance companies. The bills are being fast-tracked through the Legislature this year

Trump also appeared to criticize DeSantis’ insurance commissioners, who approve rate increases. Former Commissioner David Altmaier stepped down in December and took a job this week as an insurance industry lobbyist.

“His Insurance Commissioner does NOTHING, while Florida’s lives are ruined,” Trump wrote. “This is the worst Insurance Scam in the entire Country!”

When I was a kid, insurance companies were like casinos. They made money most of the time and occasionally they had to pay out. Now when someone hits big, like getting THEIR WHOLE LIFE DESTROYED BY A HURRICANE, they catfish on it, try to find loopholes, then bitch up and pay where they can't get out of it, then hike rates and cry to the government.

Screw them and the people that enable them.

Agree to some extent...but we also have more people bilking that system than we used to in the good ole' casino days, as you referred to them.

I'm not a fan of the insurance industry nor the crooks who steal from it...which is paid for by the rest of us. For damn sure the insurance companies aren't just going to lose money year over year.

Yikes...good point and you brushed up against a partial solution. That solution brushed up against "price controls" which, just typing the words, made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Agreed. One caveat...

If company A incurs cost X to rush product Y to me after a natural disaster, I have no issue with them recouping those losses...within reason of course.

Not allowing such would disincentivize company A from rushing those goods to me which helps no one and hurts everyone.

We had migrated away from discussing DeSantis's action on the insurance problems in Florida to Evilwayz comment that he doesn't identify as a conservative.

I said OK but his posts seem to be ideas that are "conservative" even though he doesn't consider himself to be.

Asking him to comment on anything was met with he wasn't going to be "suckered" into a "bullshit" discussion

I took that to mean if we discussed any topic of his choosing it probably a conservative viewpoint which he was desperately trying to say wasn't true

I guess we'll never know because he took his ball and went home rather than discuss a topic
