The Great Gun Nut debate thread, or Won't Someone Please Think Of The Children! versus From My Cold Dead Hands

Let me say that I am a man of my beliefs. Unless I am standing in saltwater...I am carrying a gun. I waited until my mid 50's( had to make sure I was responsible and mature enough). When all of these ISIS attacks were happening, I made a decision that me or my loved ones would not become a victim. That pushed me over the edge to get my CCL. When I was younger...I could handle myself well enough to where I thought I did not need a firearm, and my temperament made me not want to carry one. I have had a loaded gun beside my bed since I was 14. Lastly, I do not care ONE IOTA what federal laws are passed...I will NEVER, EVER surrender ANY of my firearms.

So, @GatorTheo

You say you want to live peacefully among civilized people. What's stopping you and how does my gun worshipping interfere?
I pretty much do live peacefully among civilized people.

I see guns as a significant problem and I'd like provide future generations of Americans with a more livable environment.

Gun nuts are an enigma to me. They're generally conservative and I expect them to be rational, responsible and willing to be part of the solution but all that goes out the window when the topic turns to guns. Sometimes I truly wonder if the gun industry has gotten control of their minds.

You didn't answer my question.

How does me wandering around armed affect you?

How am I contributing to this significant problem of yours?

How will disarming me fix this problem and save future generations?

We appreciate freedom. That's true across the board for us. Why you're surprised that we appreciate this particular freedom baffles me.

And not to be a d1ck, but looking at your position here compared to your other positions, I wonder if the anti-gun lobby has gotten control of yours.

To be clear, your position seems just as batsh1t crazy to us as ours does to you.

Then you haven't paid attention. You think I want to disarm you.

Oh you'll let me?

A right I have to pay to exercise is a privilege.

I'm really hoping you're kidding.
I am 100% in favor of gun ownership being a privilege.

They're not just simple tools. They are deadly weapons.

Then we cant have a discussion because you don't understand how rights work.
We write laws that sound good at the time. Sometimes situations change and the laws need to change.

You may not think the 2nd needs to change but I'm sure there are other laws you'd like to see changed.

You don't understand how the bill of rights works either I see.

Not in the bill of rights I don't.

Now answer the question.

How does me wandering with a gun on my hip interfere with your ability to live peacefully.

There’s a reason that firearm weapon ownership is the second amendment. It specifically recognizes the right of people & states to fight an unjust government. If the populous is armed, then the power to resist the dictates still remains with people. It’s not only a right, but a responsibility for a certain percentage of people to own and be proficient in firearms.

The Constitution is a contract between those who would govern and those who’s would be governed….. what happens when that contract is broken?

If 100 men decide to go out in a blaze of glory….. they’re crack pots. If 100,000 all feel shite in the country is so phucked up from the floor up that they are willing to die, then obviously government has gone off the rails. Gun ownership is the final check and balance.

…… oh, and it’s great for self defense, fun to shoot, and puts meat on the table for those with land and skill

If you have 4 guns and I take 2, are you still armed?

(hint: yes, you are)

And what have you accomplished?

You've pissed off half the people because you took some of their guns. You piss off the other half because you didn't take away all their guns.

I suspect that what you're going for is incrementalism. I would never vote for a candidate who supported what you're talking about...and I'm rather mainstream on this subject.

If I was a "gun nut," I'd have a hundred of them. As it stands, every gun I own serves a specific purpose save the ones I inherited from my grandfather that actually belong to my dad.

So, I'm a moderate on guns?

OK, I'm good with that.
