Official Coaching Change Thread

From AJC:

Barring a last-minute snag in negotiations, Alabama’s Kirby Smart will become Georgia’s new football coach. An announcement could come as soon as Sunday or Monday.

In last 100 years, Georgia has hired one coach who was a sitting head coach: Jim Donnan. Not Smart, Richt, Goff, Dooley, Mehre or Butts, etc

Athens, Ga -
University of Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity has not been the most popular person around Athens or the entire state of Georgia the last 48 hours.
The outcry of frustration and disapproval comes on the heels of McGarity firing 15-year Georgia head football coach Mark Richt over the weekend, following the conclusion of the 2015 season in which the Bulldogs finished 9-3.

UGA senior Alex Kent, a management major in the Terry College of Business, decided to voice his frustrations with a sign at tonight's Georgia men's basketball game against Oakland. He wrote on a small poster board the words "Fire ADGM," an acronym for "Athletic Director Greg McGarity."

Kent held the sign up in silent protest before the game and then during timeouts and stoppages of play during the opening minutes. But about six minutes into the game, CSC Security confiscated his sign, stating it was done by orders of the "University of Georgia administration."

“I feel like it was an appropriate way to express my feelings and the sentiments of the entire Bulldog Nation after the events that unfolded on Sunday and Monday," Kent said. "I, like many others, stand behind Coach Mark Richt and the football team. There is a great deal of concern surrounding the direction of our athletic department and I believe that starts at with Mr. McGarity. He isn’t even here to show his support for our basketball team tonight. As Georgia, we should aspire for better leadership."

Signs are not uncommon at Georgia basketball games. Especially in the student section near where Kent was sitting. But rarely, if ever, are they confiscated by whatever "administration" ordered this one to be.

As much as I would like to see Richt in Coral Gables, I think he may actually end up at Virginia.

Miami just fired a guy for performing exactly how Richt will end up performing at his future job.

He would be a perfect fit for Virginia. A nice guy who wins enough to be respectable at a school that doesn't have sky high expectations, but wants to improve. All he would have to do at UVA is make it to a bowl game 2/3s of the time and he'll have a job for life.

I thought we heard that Richt and Virginia are no longer talking? That might have been just internet chatter.

He might have been referring to a reputable profession.

The last time I was having a drink at a bar and someone asked me what I did for a living, I looked at the guy for about five seconds before I answered. I considered that I really didn't want to have a conversation with anyone much less this guy.

So I said to him in reply, "I defend rapists, murderers and child pornographers."

He moved seats and no one else tried to talk to me while I was there.

Solid strategy. I did something similar the last time I was called for jury duty
