It's happening!!!

@sadgator to quote Compu.

Well in a whole lot of shorter version...

Why did you two pick a date to tie the knot on game day during the middle of a title run with one of the greatest offensive shows ever?

Thats your very first sign, lol.

Granted I wouldn't have blamed one person for choosing a wedding date during the Muschamp and McElwain era. Those guys sucked that bad.

Hmmm. Married in 1996 on the day #1 Florida beat unranked South Carolina in G'ville: 52--25.

What the hey-ell were yall thinking when--presumably at least a few months earlier--yall set a date for your wedding that would fall on a Gator game day!? Especially considering that the immediately following Saturday (Nov. 23) would be an open date on the Florida football schedule!?

You haven't yet written how you and the other men present accomodated the game during the reception. If Mrs. Sad was cheering and refreshing her drink for each of the Gators' 7 TDs (plus 1 FG) along with the guys, maybe that suffices to explain her lack of, um, energy after sundown--when it really mattered.

I learned my lesson about dates of weddings while still a UF student: I had agreed to use certain of my technical skills to record the wedding of the elder son of close family friends, and only months later as that wedding neared, I learned to my horror that it was set for the same day as the Florida--Georgia game, for which I had already scored 2 of the rare tickets available to UF students [†]. Its kick-off was to be during the church ceremony itself! I had no room to wiggle out, especially because my dad worked with the groom's dad, and it was made clear to me that going back on my word was unthinkable for someone reared according to the ideal of the Southern gentleman [††].

-------
Note †: At least back then, scoring any of the few Florida-Georgia tickets available to UF students required both a student id. and the still newfangled extra-cost athletic-ticket permit (not its exact name). But because it was not played on a college campus, the tickets were general admission, thus also usable by nonstudents.

Note ††: Never mind that we had neither the money nor the property expected for that ideal; e.g., I was far from being an "only child", so paying out-of-state tuition for any of us was financially not an option.
"Sad" is just a kid in the marriage thing, although 21 years IS quite an accomplishment. My wife & I got married in 1975, on a September Saturday night, in Alachua Co. The day was picked by her Mom & Grandma, who paid for the deal. The Gators played Miss. St. in Starkeville that night. After the wedding & reception we got on I-75 headed for Stone Mountain, GA for our honeymoon. I had not booked a place to stay for the wedding night. I turned on the Gator game on the car radio and told her we would stop and get a motel room wherever we were when the game ended. Gators won 27-10 and we spent our wedding night in Hahira, Georgia. True story and we're still going strong 42 years later!!

Incredible forensic work on the date Compu.

Yep, it was indeed South Carolina. It was a HUGE Catholic wedding and reception. To her credit, mrs. sadgator gave sadgator a choice of dates to select from to avoid any gator conflicts. That date was selected because South Carolina sucked, and sadgator figured that match-up would never be significant for any reason. Whoops.

We had a blast getting ready and watching the game. We listened on the radio in the limo. And at the church we had groomsmen with radio earpieces in like secret service giving score updates as the church filled. As sadgator stepped out into the aisle to take mrs. sadgstor’s hand, my best man whispered “we got it 52-25.” True story. We laughed, danced, sang the alma mater and we are the boys and other gator chants all night long. It was very much a part of the festivities. There are a few “watchers” of this Board that were present on that stormy, but fun-filled day!

‘96 was a great year. Grad from grad school, job, married to pippa, and National Title. Best year of sadgator’s life!

The Gators and SCar combined to score 77 points that day. SadGator...0 :p

I was at that South Carolina game in '96. What an offense we had that year. Almost forgot what it was like to have a real offense in the Orange & Blue.

So where's the like I should've earned?

"HUGE Catholic wedding"? Uh, oh. I suppose you didn't realize that the date you chose is the traditional feast of a Catholic saint who's venerated for being a virgin and a religious mystic; she's the only Catholic virgin-saint awarded the epithet "the Great", So she is known as St. Gertrude the Great.

Beware that after Vatican II, the Church piled on the feast of St. Margaret of Scotland, venerated for her holiness as a widow.

Upon further review, getting married on the combined feasts of a virgin and a widow might be, um, inauspicious for the marital bliss of the groom. Sigh.

But I'm not a Catholic theologian, and I know that I'm not qualified to blog as one on the Internet.

Pretty appropriate. mrs. sadgator has spent the better part of the past 21 years trying to emulate her...
