Promising start this year is quickly unraveling. We've been down 10+ points in 3 consecutive games. Other than the FSU win, we are 1 buzzer beating shot away from being an also ran thus far. We are a very poor shooting team, which has been an issue throughout White's tenure here. Candidly, I don't see any reason to think we should continue? Thoughts?

We have never been a good shooting team or a good offensive team through his entire tenure. He had the 1 good season and that is it. This is year 7. Hopefully it is his last. He’s a like able guy but if you can’t coach you can’t coach.
I think you see where he ends up this year. Winning a game or two in the tourney every year isn’t a terrible outcome. Very confusing how inconsistent his teams are every year. How does this team get out rebounded by Texas Southern 2-1? His offense is so bad that the team has to work so hard to win every game. If that effort slips a little bit they can lose to anyone. As we just saw!
Excellent point. Any little slip in effort and we could lose to anyone. We are such a bad shooting team that I don't think our ceiling is very high. We've seen this during most of the White era. We hit slumps and lose clumps of games. UNF on Wednesday, and they are better than Texas Southern. Need to right the ship before conference play or it could get ugly fast.
Texas Southern became the first SWAC team since 1936 to beat an SEC ranked team.
Those OU fans were right, we are overrated.

Those who remember know I had very strong reservations/opinions of Mike White in year 3-4. I thought his offensive philosophy/system were very poor. I even called it high schoolish. I actually think he should of been fired after last year. At that point he had been the coach for 6 years and only had 1 good year. That isn’t good enough. Here we are are now in year 7 and his offense is still high schoolish. So I have been off the bandwagon for a few years now with him. I think I keep giving him a chance because he’s a very likable guy and you want to see him succeed but I’m done now. He has to get to the Elite 8 or win either the SEC or SEC Tourney or he should be fired.
Well if it makes you feel better it was about 65-68 all weekend but a storm front came in today so it's going to dip down to about 30 tonight.
We are an SEC football school. Billy D is a once in a century hire.
While I don’t follow college bball, we have to know who we are. Its Florida, and its bball. Its a filler between football and baseball.
You wanna see bball, come up here for a week. Football is just a way to stay in shape for basketball.

We made a Final Four with Lon Kruger. We even had a few decent teams with Norm Sloan. It has been done before. I also said 3/4 years ago that I’m not expecting another Billy D ever again at UF but he showed that we can have some success. We should be able to have success somewhere under Billy D’s accomplishments but better than White has done so far. This is his 7th year and he’s only had 1 good year so far. How is that acceptable at any sport at UF? It’s not.
Yes we have a ceiling and it is much higher than this. Right now the bball program has just been average in the last 7 years. The only sport at UF where average has become the norm or acceptable is woman’s basketball.
Well I am all for improvement. Hopefully Stricklin can find a suitable replacement. I hate college bball, so I have no ideas
Yeah well Stricklin just gave the guy an extension for some reason. I was hoping we were going to fire him. So I was thinking fire the guy and Stricklin was thinking extension. I really do like Mike White. Really like able guy with a good personality and friendly, etc. but at some point you just have look past that and realize the guy can’t coach.
Totally disagree. The University of Florida is a Top 10 overall athletic program in the NCAA and there is absolutely no reason why basketball can't be a national contender every year, just like baseball, softball, track & field, lacrosse, etc. Just need the right coach to get it done.
Does it need to end? If UF doesn't get to the elite 8 within 3 years.....than yes. I'm probably one of the more generous fans about it.

Totally agree. This excuse that we shouldn't expect national titles in every sport, or at least be in the running, because football is the main sport is a spit in the face of everything Foley strived to do, the athletes that play with that desired outcome, the coaches who took a chance to come to UF, and the fans who wear the colors in support.
You don't have to be an avid follower of a sport to be happy in its success and believe in a standard across the board.
Case in point, when UF won its first men's tennis championship.
If you don't have that mentality, than you will compromise....and then you become a terrible athletic program.

What an insightful first post. At least we can be happy in knowing that the Vols will match it's historical relevance on the national scene, which is to say none.
BTW, try beating somebody with a pulse before attempting to talk smack.
Was out and didn't see the game but can't believe that happened coming off a loss. I was ready for White to go when he pulled that mess in the tourney last season. I think he could be be in danger short of a Sweet 16. We will have to see what happens in a tough SEC this season.
Florida is capable of competing in basketball as has been shown before and the SEC football conference is becoming pretty good at basketball.
Had you made this post before the Oklahoma game it would have been daring and insightful. Now it's just drive by smack to people who are saying the exact same thing themselves. Do better or go away.

I still dont understand why UF players get a penalty when we do our own gesture, but the opponents can mock mour gesture.
This year the SEC doesn't have a great team and probably won't get anyone to the Final 4, nor possibly the elite 8. But it is a deeper league with more really good teams than normal, IMO. The Gators are picked around 7th or 8th depending on where you look for the pre-season predictions. Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Auburn and Mississippi State are all very good teams. If we play like we did against Ohio State we can beat any of them. Play like we did last night and we get blown off the court. One game doesn't make or break a season, but the Texas Southern game was a disappointing eye-opener to me.

When I saw the final score, I was in total shock. White has once again proven that he can't handle success. This time you lose a SWAC team that was WINLESS. Totally unacceptable. This pretty much sums up the Mike White Era.
