In before the gun confiscation NUTS.....

People are starting to realize this and the push is to have better trained Resource Officers at the schools rather than the LEO who is at the end of a very long career.

My concern...how long before the shine wears off? It's a hot-button issue today and money, resources and people are easier to come by. Buy holy crap, a school resource officer is a boring job so who will want to do it? "And couldn't that money be better spent on _____?"
Orange Park High School took that into consideration.

So now instead of an SRO they have a Clay County Sheriffs Department substation. They lease the office space to the county and now have 12 deputies on site. Not all at once obviously but when they are done with a call that's where they are.

What is your opinion on hiring ex military...especially ones that were SF and cleared mentally to do the job. I do not intend to mean they all are NOT mentally fit, however many have been through VERY SERIOUS stuff...and may have some PTSD. I would also be fine with any Marine(most for sure) They are fighters, and fight to win, and are trained to do so. I would not feel the same way about Army, AF and Navy, but would gladly take if they were qualified to handle situations where gunfire may happen

You cant totally account for human nature but my guess is the chances a school gets targeted where there are armed teachers especially is less and also other armed personnel. I have confidence in my county you would never have an incident like that TX one either. They rotate that duty and there is no ifs ands or buts you go to take the shooter out. Some counties are bad for putting dead weight in the schools though instead of rotating that position often.
Reported this morning the IT that shot up that school chose it over a better defended school

We have a slightly different system in order to avoid having the low performers become SRO's.

For us it's a "rest duty" detail where the school board pays you a rate that's about the same as OT pay on your days off. And damn near all cops have a side hustle.

The other benefit is that you avoid some of the burn out because being an SRO is boring AF and tedious having to deal with those freaking kids.

Not enough SF to go around.

I think hiring veterans is a great idea. Give them the training and do your background due diligence, hell yes.

I'd be fine with:

Army
Military Police
Cavalry Scouts
Line Infantry

Navy
Master at arms
SeaBee
SWCC
SEAL/DEVGRU

Air Force
Combat Air Controllers
Combat Weathermen
Pararescue Jumpers

You're wasting your words. If you want to restrict guns in any way, they've been brainwashed to believe you want to confiscate all guns.

They truly can't help it. They're only allowed to believe certain things. It's like trying to have a discussion with one of the Manson women.
This isn't it. I don't think that everyone that wants to restrict guns, like yourself, want to confiscate my guns. I think that you probably really believe what you are saying and are authentic. I think what people like you don't understand is that there are totalitarian freaks who DO want to confiscate all my guns ( and everyone elses ). These people will co-op your support for the first half a loaf. We see your type as useful idiots, dangerously naive. Youre so domesticated that you don't understand the world and its dangers. Youre a house cat thats been declawed...now you demand that the rest of us must be declawed as well.

That's a good idea. It doesn't solve the issue because you'll have more schools than you will have substations but they're at least making use of the substation.

I'm confident if even half of them aren't there or bitch up, my niece isn't going to be caught up in a shooting gallery. The other five school age kids in our family go to expensive private schools with expensive private armed security.

We also have college professors saying that it would be more noble to murder a federal judge that you disagree with than it would be to shout him down.

And we wonder why we're experiencing an uptick in this type of violence?

Each department runs differently. I personally think that we do an exceptional job of weeding out the people who would be unwilling to charge into gunfire to stop a murdering SOB like this.

Of course that's theory based on real world experience and constant development. But the truth of the matter is that we never know with absolute certainty how we will respond until the lead starts flying.

Crucially, even people who have been in the fight before, you still cannot be certain how their bodies will react to the next fight. Each one takes something from you unless you're an apathetic psychopath.

That bitch shot through locked glass doors to gain access. I guess that will become a new building code item for schools going forward now. Report was that the shooter had detailed floor plans of the school layout. This wasn't some crime of passion, it was premeditated and well planned. That's a whole new dimension of evil that has nothing to do with guns.

"Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempts to disarm the people must be stopped, by force if necessary"

--Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto
Interesting that Marx adopted a stance that the founding fathers had already put pen to paper. The flip side of opposing ideologies understood the importance of being armed.

Shooting the doors out was already on our radar tbh. We've been sort of waiting on it to happen, sadly enough.

If you strengthen those doors, you're also making it more difficult for responding LE to get in if a bad guy is inside killing kids and teachers. It's an absolute quagmire.

Stressing you have to go get the shooter and some training should work with most officers. That TX incident hopefully has woke people up for good. I think now if that happened the other officers would just act no matter what some idiot that supposedly is in charge said. I remember reading early in WW2 we had a huge problem with soldiers not wanting to pull the trigger on the enemy freezing up basically. I think that is why they started the range setups like they do them now so its more of a natural act to the soldiers.

I have (many, many) issues with concealed carry, but in the home, everyone should have the right to defend themselves, and with assault weapons, if need-be. IN YOUR HOME / on your private property.

Police, regardless of whether they are properly funded or not, cannot be everywhere and nor are they perfect. With crime increasing, illegal immigration, etc. people have the right to defend themselves.

This is a case, a sad case, of mental illness and hate - as most if not all of them are.

When it involves innocent children, it's 100% mental derangement. Dispicable.

I tend to agree. That and having training that includes stressers on the trainees.

We do that and we openly discuss the consequences of inaction. What it would mean for you, your family and your community.

My neighbor in Jax is retired but still does some shooting training classes for LEOs in situations under stress. Some of things he's told me are amazing. He's said more than once even experienced officers will choke and miss a target at 5 yards repeatedly.

This is what I was looking for. Just saying "Veterans" does not work for me. My wife is a Veteran...and she aint stopping ANY shooter w a gun anymore. Not sure if she could even load and fire a weapon. I know I do not trust her with a firearm. You DID leave off Marines...and my guess is ANY Marine would be qualified, although some more than others.

You are MORE than welcome to have your opinions about this subject for sure...but what facts do you base your opinion on concealed carry? Just wondering if there is some info I am not aware of on this subject. What I am looking for is % of crimes committed by us. Are WE a threat?

I don't know how accurate the specific data is but the FBI states that whatever a LEO is able to shoot during qualifying, you can expect that officer to shoot about 20% of that under the stress of an actual shooting.

So if you shoot a 90 on the range, you'll hit your target with about 18% of your shots in a real life situation. That is unbelievably scary. And remember, we're responsible for each of those rounds. 🫣

I do think training can mitigate some of that. I pray to God that I'm right.

Yeah, Yahoo and Facebook both blocked me from comments on that shooting. They are in hyper protection mode of the weirdos.
I have been censored by FB for 30 days 25 times at least. They have laid off of me for over 2 years...not a peep from them. Yesterday, I posted "Tranny malfunctioned". Nothing else...no attachments..and I was warned by them. And this type of censorship in UNREAL to me in America...especially when yesterday someone posted about killing someone that differed politically with them. Ket here...they were lefties. I once got 30 days for commenting on a local article from where I live where these was a home invasion. I commented that he would not have made it very far at my house. First, he would have been greeted by my very protective 155 lb Rottweiler. And if he somehow got by him, I was prepared to deal with that situation. But back then, they 100% had a target on me because of my support for President Trump. They HATED me for that.
