There's no doubt that Alabama has a troubled past re: civil rights.
But you're kidding yourself if you don't think the same is true in most states if not ALL states. In New York, not so long ago, even different kinds of white people were segregated by culture in their neighborhoods. Irish, Italian, Eastern Europeans...what do you think they did with black people?
What did they do to people who were in the wrong neighborhood? Anecdotally, I can tell you that my cousin's husband (born and raised in NYC in the 50's) got his Irish ginger a$$ stomped when he got caught in Italian and black neighborhoods growing up.

Also, I've traveled all over this country and the two states where one most commonly sees interracial couples and children, in my experience, is Georgia and Alabama. Well, let me help you out. They pulled over a bus full of black Delaware State lacrosse players (I know, right) for driving in the left lane. Weak, but fair enough. The problem was they boarded the bus, demanded to know where the drugs were, and when nobody fessed up proceeded to go through all of their luggage with no probable cause, dumping their clothes and panties all over the ground. A total of six cops were called for this clear and present danger. I know all about the thin blue line from my brother but surely you can see the problem here.
BTW, they found zero drugs and sent them on their way.

Yes, there are racists everywhere but trying to equate the South, with the North ignores the history of Jim Crow laws, racial segregation, poll taxes, no admittance to public colleges, church burnings, job and racial discrimination, etc. That racism, while thankfully decreasing with each generation, just didn’t die out with the passage of the civil rights act. That’s much different than the ethnic rivalries you mention. Having lived in the South my entire life, I can attest to that. But I’m primarily talking about posters OTB, with their thinly veiled comments about BLM, calling Obama Mugabe and a Kenyan, calling black women ugly, stupid, etc. One guy even said that just because they don’t use the N word on here they must not be racist.
Your comment about interracial marriage was interesting so I decided to look it up. Obiously it’s lower where few black people live but the states with the highest percentage seem to be in the Midwest, Virginia and Florida. See chart in the link . Alabama and Mississippi rank near the bottom. .7% overall.

Not sure what info you were looking at but the one on page 11 looked the most relevant to me. It certainly showed the southeast as the area with the most non-hispanic whites married to non-hispanic blacks.
But that data is about marriage...and that certainly doesn't tell the entire story. I realize that my experiences are anecdotal but I absolutely see more mixed race people and mixed raced couples in this part of the country.
