Gators to Hire Ron Roberts as LB Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator ?

Step 1 is to rebuild the roster with blue chip talent. That seems to be going very well. I love how we are recruiting and what we are doing off the field. Hopefully it can translate to on the field and the build continues. I am gaining trust in Napier due to the high level recruiting.

I always felt and have said this many times that at least at worst case he could load the team with talent ala Ron Zook.
It's pretty remarkable the momentum that is being built in recruiting.

So again like I said previously his record got worse each year? Correct? And why does everybody still talk about Covid year? Was UCF the only team that suffered from Covid opt outs? Come on.

Covid was a weird year

I think you're whistling past the graveyard. He came darn close to winning 10 games with a UT team that everyone buried as a program before the season in 2021. I think he's one of the best play callers in football. The question remains can he recruit?

Kind of hard to improve on 12-1 but came pretty close at 10-3. His record is fairly stellar overall

sadgator doesn’t dispute that Heupel has a good offensive mind.

But his stubbornness in implementing tempo was a huge factor in why UCF declined in record results (say whatever you want about the Covid year)…

He’s a lot like Steve in his stubborn adherence to his system regardless of situation.

That always cost Steve a game or two every year.

sadgator questions whether Heupel is disciplined enough to tweak his system to avoid the same fate.

Plus…Hooker was a phenom…let’s see if Milton replicates his production for a full year…sadgator is cautiously skeptical…

Agree that Hooker was special? Was he special before Heupel coached him? He's like Dan in being a qb whisperer

To me Heupel is the opposite of Kirby. Heupel is a fantastic offensive mind. One of the best in the business. But as you pointed out can he recruit. Kirby is a lousy coach but learned from Saban if you have the best toys in college you can win. Urban is another example of that. His Gator teams were generally just way more talented every Saturday. Heupel's success will mostly be determined by his ability to recruit. No accident that almost all of the national champions in past 15 years were also the teams that had the top recruiting classes.

It’s WAY harder to maintain than it is to have a one-off flukishly successful year.

Heupel may be turn out to be solid over his career at Tennessee, but something tells sadgator those hillbillies are in for a bit of a letdown if they think they have arrived based on last year…

I think Heupel will come back to reality some in 2024 and beyond that when the East teams aren't protected by easier SEC schedules overall usually and with TX and OK joining. I doubt he makes too many playoffs even with 12 teams getting in.

Gators trying to pry Joshisa Trader from Miami

Paco will not be thrilled;
Trader not as good as Jeremiah Smith
BUT
still a very good WR;
better than any other uncommitted 2024s we are still talking to.

Johsisa Trader out of Miami is one of the best players in Florida, and the Gators will need to beat out the Canes if they want to land him.

Out chances not great but CBN & Billy G need to get some talented targets for Lagway to throw to.

College Football's Best Players in Transfer Portal

Examining the top college football players in the transfer portal.

Bradley Rozner, WR, Rice
Rozner was an early July addition to the transfer portal as a graduate from Rice. The Texas native was projected to be one of the American Athletic Conference's top receivers for '23 after catching 101 passes for 1,676 yards and 15 touchdowns in 26 games with the Owls. Although he's a late addition, Rozner will have plenty of interest for his services.

https://athlonsports.com/college-football/college-footballs-best-players-in-transfer-portal-2022-23

Rice wide receiver Bradley Rozner entered the transfer portal, sources told 247Sports. Rozner is a highly experienced wide receiver who caught 44 passes for 876 yards and 10 touchdowns last year.

At 6-foot-5 and 204 pounds, Rozner was actually a member of the class of 2016, but spent three seasons — two injured — at Brenham (Texas) Cisco College before he arrived at Rice as the No. 19 wide receiver and No. 139 overall junior college player in the 2019 class.

From there, Rozner climbed up the Rice receiving charts. He hit the ground running, catching 55 passes for 770 yards and five touchdowns, earning a second-team All-Conference USA nod from Phil Steele after the season.

But it took awhile for Rozner to build on that success. With COVID-19 delaying the start of the 2020 season, Rozner suffered an injury once practices started in October and chose to sit out the season. He started the 2021 season opener against Arkansas, catching two passes for 30 yards before suffering a season-ending injury.

Last season marked a bounce-back. Rozner set career highs in receiving yards and touchdowns, putting up five games with more than 100 yards. His 19.91 yards per catch ranked fourth among receivers with at least 40 catches. He leaves Rice high up on the Owls’ career charts, ranking 14th in career receptions, eighth in career yards and tying for sixth in receiving touchdowns. He has completed his Master’s degree in accounting.

Kendall Jackson, 4-star edge, to announce commitment decision Wednesday (Today)

Kendall Jackson, the 4-star edge from Gainesville (Fla.) Buchholz, first planned to announce his commitment decision the first week in August. Then, he moved it to July 21.

Now, he has a new date.

It will be Wednesday.

“It’s just because of the whole process,” he told Gators Online. “I want to solidify my spot.”

Jackson will announce his decision at 4:30 p.m. ET via instagram (@_iamhollywood). He is down to four schools: Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky and Miami.

Will be very surprised if he’s not a Gator.
Paco,

Gators have NO CB commits in 2024 class so far.
I'm thinking Corey Raymond & Gators need to sign 2 of these 4 CBs -
Foster & Howard from the State of Florida;
IMO, our odds are better with them.
But would take any of them.

Teddy Foster
Jamari Howard

Jalyn Crawford

Wardell Mack

A Hat on the table

Florida football remains in the picture for three-star defensive back Ashton Hampton out of Tallahassee (Florida) University School as the 2024 recruiting class winds down ahead of the fall schedule.

FWIW

Hampton will commit on July 15, with Clemson now the clear favorite.

Underrated Gators CB Target Shares Pledge Date

Florida Gators cornerback target Teddy Foster will announce his collegiate commitment on Friday.

The newly-scheduled date was initially announced via his Instagram Story on Tuesday evening before he took to Twitter to officially circle July 14, his birthday, on the calendar for his commitment. Foster will choose from the top three he released on July 6: Florida, Miami and North Carolina.

NO CBs currently committed; need at least 2 in this class.

Kendall Jackson commits to the Gators

Jackson is yet another addition to the Gators top three class.

He may also be the first domino to fall this week as the Gators have a few more top targets announcing their commitments in a few days.

Hope we get some CB commits.

https://hailfloridahail.com/2023/07/12/florida-football-recruiting-kendall-jackson-commits-gators/

After landing coveted offensive tackle Fletcher Westphal on Monday, Billy Napier and Co. reeled in the 19th pledge of the cycle as defensive lineman Kendall Jackson announced his decision to align with the Gators on Wednesday.

He chose to team up with the hometown team nine days before his previously scheduled July 21 commitment date to claim his spot in the class as it fills up rapidly.

As a disruptive, high-motor performer at the prep level, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound Swiss army knife along Gainesville (Fla.) Buchholz's defensive front posted 65 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, three pass breakups, two interceptions and a pick-six as a junior.

Jackson is the nephew of former Gators star wide receiver, the late Aubrey Hill.

5 key Florida Gators recruiting targets to track on defense

Teddy Foster, CB, Sarasota (Fla.)
Friday, July 14, his birthday, is his commit date..
As Kendall Jackson said - “I want to solidify my spot.”
Teddy - come on up to G'ville !
LJ McCray
, DE, Daytona Beach (Fla.)
Zay Mincey, CB, Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland: Mincey arguably is Florida’s No. 1 cornerback target (he’s listed as a safety but the Gators project him at corner).
Jamari Howard, CB, Miami (Fla.)

Four more Florida players ?
Works for me !

It has been a LONG time since we had all of our class on board on ESD; think that's how it will work out this year.

Props to CBN !

FWIW
Jameer Grimsley, CB, Tampa (Fla.) Catholic: Grimsley committed to Alabama on July 1, but because he has the length, athleticism, speed and overall skillset Florida secondary coach Corey Raymond loves we expect the Gators to keep recruiting him and hope for the best

Should Florida land two or three other corners in the coming months, could the Gators move on? We don’t have an answer to that at this time.

We need another big play WR for Langford.
IMO, Jeremiah Smith's ship has sailed - tOSU.
Odds not great
BUT
If Joshisa Trader said YES to CBN & Billy G would you turn him down ?
I’m not a big fan of Trader. Overrated IMO. We aren’t recruiting him anyways. Like I said before I believe he is the Damon McDaniel of the Jeremiah Smith recruitment.

Florida's Remaining 2024 Recruiting Needs?

As spots in the Florida Gators 2024 recruiting class fill up, which positions remain areas of need?

Cornerback

no CB commits; hopefully we start changing that tomorrow

Wide Receiver

have commits from slot receivers; need an outside - x-Receiver; few left.

Offensive Line

The Xfers we got are one year rentals. Doesn't allow much cohesion to form.

Big Fish

Unlike the other areas of need, this category isn't a necessity. Instead, it's merely the difference between a great and an elite class.

The Gators understand that and have cast their line for premier talents such as

wide receiver Jeremiah Smith,

edge rusher Jordan Ross

and defensive lineman L J McCray , among others.

Two Florida Players & one from Bama.

CB Jalyn Crawford talks top 3 ahead of commitment

FWIW, a hat on the table.

It’s down to Florida, Auburn and LSU for four-star Parkview (Lilburn, Georgia) cornerback Jalyn Crawford.

According to a social media post sent out on Monday, the top-200 recruit is committing on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EDT. Both 247Sports and the On3 recruiting prediction machine consider him a heavy Auburn lean, but Florida has done enough to be called a “top school,” by Crawford in the recent past.

CB Teddy Foster's Friday Commitment

Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney 2024 cornerback Teddy Foster is scheduled to pick one of his top three schools — Florida, Miami or North Carolina — Friday at 7 p.m. ET.

Foster's commitment live stream, which will broadcast on his high school's Instagram page, can be accessed below -
https://www.instagram.com/mooney_fb/

Foster (6-2, 170) is viewed as the No. 67 cornerback and No. 757 overall prospect in the class of 2024 by the 247Sports composite rankings. He produced 38 tackles, nine pass breakups and two interceptions during his breakout 2022 campaign.

Since emerging on the recruiting scene as a junior, Foster has picked up scholarship offers from 17 Power 5 programs. Florida entered the picture on May 23, following his workout in front of defensive backs coach Corey Raymond and head coach Billy Napier.
We lose 3 CBs after this season.
We need to sign 2-3 CBs !

Too much speed in top 4-5 SEC DLs for a big, fat, slow OL to handle.

Insta,

my thoughts were to have the same OL go out with Max every time he takes the field.
Some rest for the #1 OL & better cohesion for the Max Pac with the triple option & any other run-centric formations they come up with for Max to run.
They don't have to run the Max Pac very often each game; just enough to FORCE that week's opponent to prepare for it.

Insta,
Agree
Too much speed in top 4-5 SEC DLs for a big, fat, slow OL to handle.
If you had them push forward and have the double TE edges fold back into a V shape, with the 2 RB's pushing the LG-OC-RG group, it would be the toughest '5 Yards and a Cloud of Dust' to stop that we've ever seen.

Heck, that might be my MONSTER Goal Line offense???

Foster becomes the 20th pledge in the Florida Gators No. 3 class in the 2024 cycle
AND
the seventh to join the fold since officially visiting Gainesville during the June 16-18 weekend.
