Gators to Hire Ron Roberts as LB Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator ?

#4 LB Adarius Hayes 6-4 210 **** Natl 51 - Largo, FL

#5 LB Myles Graham 6-1 212 **** Natl 53 - Atlanta, GA

#6 LB Aaron Chiles 6-3 220 **** Natl 80 - Oiney, MD

At least ranking wise (247), that might be the best single class LB haul in UF history?
That's good sizes for high school kids. By season opener '24, they'll be swoll being in our training room and chow line, haha.

Paco,

Many Thanks !

I admit to being frustrated after going through the 1st two BIG June Recruiting weekends with nothing major happening.

As a glass 1/2 full kind of guy, I think we will see more results come trickling in.

Between last night & today -
A VERY GOOD WEEKEND TO BE A GATOR !

I like to put Faces to the Names

Simmons dad I think. Clearly looking for the best NIL deal.
Fever,

Kept meaning to ask, but with the Bombshell Paco dropped on us & all the other posts, it slipped my mind.

Why would the Simmons Family/Dad think they needed an attorney ?

No LOI, no NIL contract - what gives ?

Four commitments, 10 spots in the On3 Team Rankings for Florida Gators

Other than day one of the Early Signing Period, those commitments alone would be enough to say it was a program’s best recruiting day of the year; however, Billy Napier’s program also climbed 10 spots in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and is up to No. 3 in the country.

Just me, perhaps,
BUT
I tend to have more faith in the Rivals rankings.

Gators currently #7 on Rivals Team rankings

Amaris Williams even in the top 100 is under ranked IMO. Just watch his tape. He’s a beast. I expect he will rise in the rankings.

We just landed 4 studs in 1 day. Pretty damn impressive and the defense is going to be really really good again in a few years.
Great momentum swing with the Simmons thing - probably planned. Napier has had a few of these timed right to keep the wolves at bay.

Per 247, we have the 3rd best class in terms of composite star rating and up to 8th overall...though we also have 4-6 less recruits signed compared to those above us.

GBO,

Think you are right.

I think Simmons had the courtesy to tell CBN what he planned to do when he had that closed door meeting after he came back from the OV to Ole Miss.

Paco yet to drop any more bombs on us, but I don't think those 1st two June recruiting weekends are going to be "dry holes."

Won't get all of them of course, but we will get some of them after they finish looking around & comparing.

I doubt that we, the posters on this board, have a good understanding of what these young men are going through as they make what is probably the most important decision - to date - of their young lives.

Many are called, but few are chosen to be Gators.

I am jealous of all 4 of those....jesus.our defense recruits are ass
Sounds like Norvell, like other fine offensive minds McElwain and Mullen, can call plays and execute offense well but suck at recruiting and maintaining a defense. Muschamp was the opposite, awesome defense coach and recruiter on that side of the hall but sucks at offense. Hopefully, Napier balances both sides out, which our defense is improving.

Norvell is gonna have to upgrade some of his assistant on the defensive side of the ball at some point if he ever wants to win anything of significance. And yes FSUs defensive recruiting is pretty bad. Outside of a few prospects not sure their board is looking too good right now either. But admittedly don’t know for sure.

I think there might be 1 more on the way hopefully soon and keep an eye out on Jamonta Waller. If we get Waller I will flip because for one he’s big time and for 2 he wasn’t really a “real” option for us a few months ago. We have come out of nowhere for some of these guys. Amaris was another one that we kind of came out nowhere and landed.

NIL promises. Ole Miss boosters do give Kiffin money to get a few good offensive players from high school and the portal. Some rumors say part of the deal is a job for the dad somewhere also but that might be a false made up rumor.

His dad kept asking for UF and Ole Miss to up their offers. He agreed to the UF offer. We stopped playing the game and yes don’t be surprised to see his dad get a nice job out of it. The mom isn’t happy at all about how it went down. He’s a very good QB but he may not be worth it in the long run. You saw what the dad said why he didn’t choose UF in the end.

We may have avoided a headache with a dad like that and at Ole Miss he better like taking hits because Kiffin loves to run QBs that have some speed.

Agreed with everything.

Only top defensive target we lead for is Charles Lester. Can't think of any good D line or backers. Our big recruiting weekend is June 23rd so coming up. See what shakes out of that

Austin Simmons isn’t really a dual threat. Look at his rushing yards. He doesn’t run much. Lagway is a dual threat.

You’re not going to recruit many good LBs with Randy Shannon. You are going to get “Randy Specials”. He’s a terrible recruiter.

Westphal enjoys spending time around the Florida Gators’ players

Offensive lineman Fletcher Westphal (6-8, 335, Leesburg, VA. Tuscarora) was on campus and he enjoyed getting to be around the team.

When it comes decision time for Westphal, he says a few things will play a role in his decision and he has ranked them already.

“When I was at Georgia, Coach [Kirby] Smart actually had me rank five things, it was player relationships, coach relationships, winning, playing as a freshman and NIL,” Westphal said on what’s important when deciding. “I ranked them player relationships one, coaching relationships two, winning three, starting as a freshman four and NIL five.”

With all these blue chippers at all the defense positions we're rebuilding the Great Wall of Florida, 'bout damn time. Our defense has sucked since Muschamp left.
NJG, The Great Wall of Florida refers to the OL, not the DL.

And many different things, system-players-injuries-etc affect your rankings from season to season.
Here is just a 'lack of details' rankings to consider:

New DC Austin Armstrong hired.
Co-DC's encouraged to move on...
2022 - UF 97 CBN -- SEC 10 -- Co-DC's Toney (DC/S) & Spencer (DC/DL)
====
Mullen / Grantham National Total Defense Rankings:
2021 - UF 37 -- SEC 11 - Grantham fired.
2020 - UF 79 -- SEC 8
2019 - UF 8 ---- SEC 2
2018 - UF 28 -- SEC 6
====
2017 MsSt 10 - SEC 6 -- Mullen / Grantham

2013 Muschamp SEC 3

The All-Schools Comparision Matrix
Fletcher Westphal

The categories on his database will include the following:
  • Coaches
  • Education
  • Program
  • Housing
  • Location
  • Stability
  • Transfer portal
  • Livability
  • NIL
  • Energy
  • Can he start there?
  • Current wins
  • Past wins
  • Mom’s rating
  • Dad’s rating
  • Facilities

There are 17 total columns. Westphal has graded out 24 schools across all of those factors. He clicks right. Inserts a row below and then will begin to fill in the matrix. Those schools are also sorted by conference.

The ratings will go from zero to five on all these factors adding up to a perfect score of 100. Yet it is not quite that simple. The school with the top score has a 100 percent rating. It doesn’t have to be a perfect rating. Just the highest.

Agreed. We got one good one last cycle (Nichelson) but he had a connection with someone else on staff from out west. Randy has been awful as a recruiter. Not a bad coach/developer but awful at recruiting. He lowers the ceiling significantly. Add on that our DC is just boring as hell to 17/18 yr Olds and it just doesn't work. We do great in portal recruiting because it's more "business" and not relationshaip based. Our defensive staff struggles to maintain top tier relationships for extended periods of time. We are constantly finishing 2nd or 3rd in almost every recruitment

We have seen “Randy Specials” first hand ourselves. He’s not a bad developer. He’d look much better if he was trying to develop blue chippers instead of 2 star guys.

Miami & 5* WR Jeremiah Smith

Five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith will take an official visit with the Miami football program the weekend of June 22 per On3. Smith spoke to Chad Simmons of On3 to discuss his recruitment with multiple programs.
Florida State on June 20 and Penn State on June 23 will also receive official visits later this month.

Miami needs to add an outside WR who can be a program changer in the 2024 class. The Hurricanes are pursuing Smith and his Chaminade Madonna teammate Joshisa Trader in the 2024 class. On3 projects Miami with a 91.8 percent chance for a commitment from Trader who is listed as the eighth WR in 2024.

Paco, in earlier comments, negative on Trader. So his commit to Canes OK.
If he dumps them for a team we don't play, even better ! LOL

I’ll say what I have said in the past. Jeremiah Smith is BIG TIME. IMO Trader is overrated/overranked.

Where's The Beef

On the Gators DL !

Like his OTs, CBN has a mental image for IDL that he believes in.

BIG & BIGGER.

Desmond Watson @ 400 lbs can't play an entire game.
SIMPLE
SOLUTION
Get another Des-Like DL who can clog up the middle & let them Rotate.

OL Marcus Mascoll commits to Florida over LSU

Gators Strike again

Hard to keep up with CBN's recruiting !

June Mega Recruiting Month NOT Over

"... The Florida Gators picked up their sixth commitment in the last three days and second of the day on Monday and also the second commitment of the day from the state of Georgia.

Offensive lineman Marcus Mascoll (6-4, 292, Snellville, GA. South Gwinnett) committed to Florida over LSU and others on Monday."

Mascoll is third offensive linemen to commit to Florida in the last week joining offensive linemen Mike Williams and Noel Portnjagin in the class. Mascoll is also the 15th commitment in the Class of 2024.

Not sure he stays at OT; with CBN's preference for OT height, he may shift him to IOL.

https://www.gatorcountry.com/feature/offensive-lineman-marcus-mascoll-commits-to-florida-over-lsu/

With the Two (SO FAR) Monday additions - Marcus Mascoll & Michai Boireau;
Gators now #5 Rivals Team Ranking.

I'm sure we will see changes with the Team ranking on other Boards as well.

ON3 rated us at #3 previously; wonder where we end up now ?

FWIW, I didn't think that was a legitimate ranking.

QUESTION
Do other recruits - WR Jeremiah Smith & other potential QBs pay attention to Team Recruiting Rankings ?

Paco,

I wonder if Fever is keeping up to date on all this & if he is willing for CBN to coach the Gators for 2023, instead of just buying out his contract & kicking him to the curb ?
LOL
The way I see it is if he continues to recruit like he has been then you give him 3-4 years to build the roster. Then the roster is either loaded for him or loaded for the next guy.
