Gators to Hire Ron Roberts as LB Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator ?

Bit of a quandary for CBN if things go our way for LeBlanc.

With JUCO Edge Quincy Ivory's commit to the Gators a few days ago, I think we are down to just 1 open scholarship.

Does CBN go for QB Austin Simmons

After all the words that got posted on Simmons & reclassification, & the way he met behind closed doors with CBN after his OV to Ole Miss, doubt that anyone knows which way he is going.

We think (HOPE) that Lagway is coming in shortly.
Mertz is what he is; maybe he is an SEC QB - maybe he isn't; what ever he is, we are forced to play him for the upcoming season.

OR
Derrick LeBlanc

We definitely don't have an SEC Defensive Line of Scrimmage.
I say go for the DL help - no guarantee we get him; but we need to try & let the QB situation play our as it does.

I guess this is a good problem to have - if we actually have it; both LeBlanc & Simmons could end up like Bowens - gone !

Gators are bound to have outbound transfers after the season or even fall practice.
Could they "Gray Shirt" Quincy Ivory if both LeBlanc & Simmons need tickets to G'ville ?

The kid is massive and was first team all state in Maryland. He definitely has some potential and was starting to pick up so bigger offers. It appears we like to recruit really big olineman. Sale has proven he can develop guys. He’s definitely raw and a bit of a gamble. Time will tell on this one.

LeBlanc isn’t coming to UF. We aren’t pursuing him.
Paco,

As usual, your eyes & ears better than mine -

"...But, there’s also a good chance that the Gators opt to not pursue LeBlanc.
Florida has no real need for a 2023 DL.
They secured Kelby Collins, Kamran James, Will Norman, T.J. Searcy, and Gavin Hill,
three of which ranked higher than LeBlanc as recruits.

NOTE - They also have 2023 JUCO Edge Quincy Ivory.

So if LeBlanc makes it clear he wants to be a Gator, sure, why not welcome him in?
But I actually don’t think we’ll see Napier and the Gators make a hard push for Derrick if that’s what’s needed."

Any truth to the story Ole Miss is offering an NIL deal to Simmons to be part of their 24 class and be there in the Spring? The other part of the story is we arent offering the deal they are. Hope its just Ole Miss fans not knowing what is going on there. If he isnt here at the end of June there may be something to it.

Florida in Top Two for TE Walter Matthews

The Gators will host tight end prospect Walter Matthews, who is down to Florida and Southern California, on an official visit in June.

Florida is one of two schools standing atop Hiram (Ga.) High 2024 tight end Walter Matthews' recruitment, the talented pass-catcher told Brooks Austin of FanNation on Friday.

Southern California joins Florida among Matthews' contending programs at this time. He plans to officially visit both schools in June, first heading west to Los Angeles, Calif. from June 2-4 then south to Gainesville, Fla. for the weekend of June 9.

We need to get some momentum going.

Ocala,

With CBN's preference for larger / taller OTs, likely that Noel (6-5, 334) is an IOL - Guard - perhaps a center
OR
if he has good hands a TE - LOL.

Rivals listing him as a 3* currently; If UGA flips him, he (like Bowens), will be an instant 5*
Rivals has their heads so far up Kirby's Butt, I'm sure they can see Daylight.
LOL

Part of Texas' SEC schedule has supposedly leaked -

Texas to play rivals Texas A&M, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Georgia in first SEC season

Texas & Bama will meet again this fall, too, with the return end of the home and home in Tuscaloosa, Ala., scheduled for Sept. 9.

https://www.on3.com/college/texas-l...lahoma-georgia-in-2024-sec-football-schedule/

FNGs get a Welcome to the SEC

Steve Sarkisian/Texas getting an extra special, "I Love You" Greeting from Saban & Smart.

EDIT
Since Texas @ Bama, likely that UGA @ Texas.

There’s also this from Peter Burns this morning, who reports every team will play either Texas or Oklahoma during the 2024 season.
If this is true (does sound likely) Gators will either get the Longhorns or the Sooners in ‘24, but we don’t know where just yet.

They do play favorites some but the word was out there he was going to the top 100 area before he signed with them. Its early but maybe Napier needs to have a talk with our big boosters and find out if we want to compete with the big boys or not like we used to. Even a 12 team playoff will be tough to make most years in the new SEC and new scheduling. Its crazy the trajectory GA has taken since Kirby got there and its mostly just talent as he isnt some great coach imo but he does know defense.

Sooners is my guess. The SEC is probably trying to keep as many rivalry type games as they can in 2024 so if the money comes around in 2025 for 9 games.

In 2024, UK and Miss State will not play each other for the first time since the mid 1980s.

The scuttlebutt I’ve heard is each team having just ONE permanent opponent, with the other 14 teams cycling through on a four-year, home and away basis; 7 teams two years, other 7 teams the following two years.

Who is UK's permanent opponent? I assume UF's is Uga.

It’s been Miss State since 1992. Back then, everybody had two permanent cross-divisional opponents; LSU was our other one, but we dropped them when we went to 14 teams in 2012.

Are they going to let Tenn get away with Vandy as their permanent opponent if we stay at 8 games after 2024? Curious who KY would get as Miss State will get Ole Miss.

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm good with Simmons arriving on campus later this month. He's replacing Rashada. So what if he only gets a handful of snaps this fall.

Is he definitely coming? If so that would be big. Getting here for camp gives him a leg up for 2024 also even if he doesnt see the field in 2023.

The scuttlebutt on the UK board is that we’ll be paired up with South Carolina. You would think Alabama and Auburn would be paired up under this one permanent opponent arrangement, which unfortunately puts UT and Vandy together.

2024 schedule is brutal for UF. Unfortunately Napier has his work cut out for him because he hasn’t gotten any breaks when it comes to the schedule. He’s had it probably harder than any UF coach in history. I wish him luck but 2024 could be his last year. Dan Orlovsky just called our 2024 schedule the hardest regular season schedule he has ever seen and he may be right. We will see how things go.

Its not easy that is for sure and could end up being the toughest SEC one overall depending on what other teams do. Napier better find a one year QB in the portal after this season that has shown it on the field already

Yep they got us with that. I still think to balance things OK will be one of our 3 permanents if they go to 9 games later though. It appears they kept most of the big rivalry games for 2024. Surprised they are making GA go to Bama and Texas as they usually avoid scenarios like that it seems.
Fever,
Greg Sankey must be pissed off with the Gators - hence our ridiculous schedule.

Sankey obviously loves Bama; they traded the 2nd game of their home & home with Texas (Texas @ Bama) for an away game - Bama @ Oklahoma.
Interested to see how that works out.

NOTE
ESPN & Disney Theme Parks cutting 7,000 jobs; majority of jobs (by numbers) will be in the Parks; dollars will be pretty evenly split.

Don't see ESPN reversing their field anytime soon & paying SEC for a 9th game. Doubt SEC will schedule 9th game without the extra money.

Sankey tried like hell to get SEC to go out front & schedule the 9th game saying
money follows, it doesn’t lead”
“(if) all you do is chase money, you make really bad decisions …. We won’t do that here.”

School presidents for a variety of reason, including pressure from ADs & HCs, shot that 9th game down.
How much would Sankey have collected if he sold that deal ?

https://www.dawgnation.com/football...-meetings-georgia/K2IHRC4UKBHRFM5IFMMF2U24HQ/

Dates for 8 of our games are TBA; UGA 7 of their games (including Bama & Texas) are TBA.

Both of us play @ Texas.
Hopefully Sankey gives Texas a two game homestand - Dawgs followed by Gators.
Dawgs leave them bruised & battered & we come in & pull the upset ?

DJ Lagway's QB Coach JP Tillman Recaps Florida Commit's Elite 11 Day One

Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway impressed during day one of the Elite 11 event. What did his QB coach JP Tillman have to say about the outing?

Showcasing his elite arm talent at a high clip, the Willis (Texas) native not only produced in the accuracy department but performed with noticeable poise and confidence throughout the evening. He quickly nixed some of the questions regarding his consistency in the camp setting and earned Sports Illustrated FanNation's Top Performer award.

Imposing Gators DL Target Michai Boireau Shares Pledge Date

Gators target Michai Boireau, a 6-foot-5, 355-pound nose tackle from Hampton, Ga., will announce his commitment on June 19.

Creekside High (Hampton, Ga.) product Michai Boireau announced June 19 as his commitment date on Wednesday, expecting to shut it down after taking two official visits to Florida (June 9-11) and Georgia (June 16-18).

In the process, he canceled a June 23-25 date to Michigan, once considered a top contender.

Boireau has the Florida Gators at the top of his recruitment

“Florida is at the top,” he said on where Florida stands in his recruitment. “I’ve been to Georgia; I’ve talked to Ole Miss and Michigan on the phone. I just feel like Florida is the realest that I’ve talked to. It’s a pretty big lead.”

I was surprised at how well FSUs QB did at this. I watched Lagway some, he needs a yr but I think he can be good. He's got some good tools to work with

Tennessee Vol write up on Day 1 of Elite 11

They said DJ Lagway was “by far” the best QB at the event in their opinion. I find that very interesting coming from a Vol.

Austin Simmons reportedly reclassifying to the 2023 class

After the OV to Ole Miss & the closed door meeting with CBN, everything went silent.

Now, more reclassification rumors
OR
Just More Clickbait ?

The news was reported by Josh Newberg, who cited Kieth Niebuhr of On3, but it didn’t seem fully official about an hour ago. (WTF ?)

But now it appears that Simmons will definitely be in Gainesville this fall.
Missing - any statement from Simmons & his parents.

Has the academics to qualify, but like Insta, I wonder about some of the intangibles. Not sure this is the best decision for a player of his age, but his parents haven't asked for my opinion.

Paco has mentioned this possibility previously.

I will believe it when CBN issues him a jersey.

Why the Florida Gators were handed the most difficult 2024 schedule in the entire SEC

By all current measures, the Florida Gators will face the toughest eight-game SEC schedule in 2024 and likely one of the most difficult 12-game slates in the entire nation.

But how exactly did the Gators wind up on the wrong end of the stick from SEC opponent choosers?

The Gators were victims of a massively faulty formula employed by the SEC when determining the 2024 opponents. (Their own play of late certainly did not help.)

The SEC chose each team’s 2024 conference opponents based on three criteria:

  • Retaining traditional rivalries
  • No team traveling to a site it visited in 2023
  • Even balance based on strength of conference success since 2012
It’s the third criteria that threw off Florida’s schedule from fair and balanced to difficult and lopsided.

Deciding a one-year slate of college football opponents based on results from an 11-year span is massively faulty given numerous factors, including coaching changes and the ebbs and flows of both recruiting and on-field success.

Florida and Tennessee are perfect examples of why this process was problematic.

The Gators have the fifth-best SEC winning percentage since 2012 (.600), yet they have the sixth-best in the last five years (.571) and actually rank an awful 14th over the last two seasons (.313).

The Volunteers have the 14th-best SEC winning percentage since 2012 (.344), yet they have the ninth-best in the last five years (.476) and actually rank tied for third over the last two seasons (.625).

When the NFL calculates rotational opponents each year, it does so based on how teams placed in their respective divisions the prior season. This for a league with relatively minimal roster turnover. To repeat: The SEC created a one-year schedule based on 11 years of results in a sport that has complete roster turnover and more drastic coaching turnover (compared to the NFL).

So what exactly does this mean for Florida in 2024?

The SEC handed the Gators appropriate opponents based on its stated criteria. Florida will face teams with league winning percentages ranked second (Georgia), fourth (LSU), sixth (Texas) and seventh (Texas A&M) among the top half, plus ninth (Mississippi State), 12th (Ole Miss), 13th (Kentucky) and 14th (Tennessee) among the bottom half.

The Gators avoided playing the best (Alabama), third-best (Oklahoma) and two worst (Arkansas Vanderbilt) teams, making their schedule appear rather middle-of-the-road. But again, that’s based on records since 2012.

Looking at those same opponents over the last five seasons — and even more accurately, over the last two seasons — tells a completely different story.
