In the last 3 games the Gator defense has seemingly resumed the DB-U moniker....
UCF/KJ.Jefferson = 165 yds, 1 Int on just 55% completions.
Tennis-sea/Iamaleava = 169 yds, 1 Int, on 62% completions.
Kensucky/Vandagriff = 165 yds, 1 TD, 2 Ints, on 46.2% comp.letions.
His backup C. Boley = 0-6 with a Pick-6
The 2 combined for 165 yds, 1 TD, 3 Ints, on 37.5% completions.
But the most impressive note from this game is that these 3 interceptions from the Gators defense matched its entire 2023-24 season total of interceptions (3). That's pretty impressive for a defense that is (was) considered bad. It gets even better though. The Gators are allowing just 166.3 passing yards a game over this 3 game span and have only given up one passing touchdown to 5 interceptions. That’s a very beautiful ratio!
By conrtast, in the Gator's first 4 games, opponents were averaging 236.8 passing yards per game. The passing defense also surrendered 6 passing touchdowns to only one interception.
I say that whoever is responsible for that kind of a drastic turn-around should get at least 2 extra cookies with their lunch... 😍

Even in their win over TX, Georgia failed to crack 300 yards of total offense.
UF 48 - 20 UK (-28)
This coming game vs the buttsniffers will be the Gator's best chance for a win in the last 4 meeting..
Be Aggressive on defense, pressure Beck all day, and turn DJ loose on offense..

Offered by UF, committed to the scUM, but then flipped his commit to Colo instead. Then he had troubles in Colo his Fr season there and so he departed.
From a whirlwind, controversial recruitment while at Lakeland High School to a one-season stop at Colorado, McClain made headlines before truly seeing the field. Even his short time as a walk-on transfer for the Florida Gators hasn't come without controversy as outside rumors circulated over the summer regarding an off-season dismissal that never actually happened, but it wasn't a totally smooth transition for him to the UF Scout team.
An injury to Jason Marshall Jr. put the Gators in an awkward spot at corner vs UK, but it was not an unlikely candidate who came up big against Kentucky. It's that same McClain who kept his head down, did his job on the Gators' scout team this season and finally got an opportunity against Kentucky, and his pick-six in the fourth quarter of the team's 48-20 win over the Wildcats is the culmination of all of those previous experiences and the hard work and redemption arc that came with it.
Now, if he'll not get a 'big-head' over that Int, keep his head down and continue to work, then he might just turn into the real prize that we're all hoping he'll be.

Biggest reason Florida is playing well is the change in the defensive line rotation. We've got guys starting now on the dline that were riding the pine against scUM and AM. Having said that, the puppies have better players than we do. We need to play mistake free..
And D line starters just playing with more effort now it appears. The GA game will be the real story though.
Finally, the Gator secondary is beginning to play like the old UF DB-U, so we'll see how it goes....
My attitude has changed from pessimistic to optimistic. Who knows what can happen if Florida shows up focused and mentally ready. Keep down the turnovers and convert on 3rd downs and we might surprise a lot of people.

I know Kentucky barely lost to Georgia and should have beaten them, while we beat KY badly. We just don;t have the horses to stay with Georgia, IMO. I'm looking forward to the game but will be surprised if it's not a blowout.

I have just a little hope because Beck looked very pedestrian against TX. He isn't the same QB since the guaranteed first down pass to the TE on 3rd downs is gone.
Totally agree. As stated elsewhere, this is exactly the kind of game Kirby excels at. Florida is going to be subjected to a colossal ass beating of legendary proportion. If Florida is even remotely in the game at halftime, sadgator will be shocked.
Injuries to Billy's 'Chosen Ones' looks like it might be one of the things that saves him for one more year.

Napier, to this point, has yet to capture the hearts and minds of his program's fans, but he's now at least trending in the right direction. Despite every possible aspect of the team failing early, the Florida Gators can still make a bowl game. Billy Napier may never be an ultra-popular choice among the Gator's fanbase. Doesn't matter. Keep the team on this current-upward trajectory, and he’ll become an ultra-popular coach at Florida eventually. Success breeds Success!
So, I'd keep Napier, but I'd make him hire and accept a real OC/QB's coach. It's either that, or Billy had better be on a steep upward learning curve as the OC/QB's. IMO, and his judgment on who needs to be starting needs improving too.

There’s always a chance. But transitive property is not a reason for anyone to be optimistic. It’s interesting to see what is in this thread and how quickly sentiment turns.

puppies have better players for certain. They are not as dominant along the lines as they have been the past 3 years. After our win in 2020 the gap has been huge, but it closed slightly this year. My humble opinion is they beat us, but not the 40 point blowout some are calling for. Hard for me to get excited. Our wins have been against 4 teams all with losing records. Granted, our losses are to teams a combined 19-2.
Dawgs have been banged up along both lines. May get Ratledge back on OL but not sure it will be many snaps. If Mykell Williams is a full go you will see a different result kinda like it was Texas, and he played maybe half the snaps. The biggest issue has been all the WR drops but Beck has not shown the best decision making either. Already has more INTs than all of last season.
Gators may hang close in the first half but then depth starts to take over and that’s the difference in the game.

Depends if our defense shows up but Beck definitely doesn't look the same so far with Bowers gone. We do have a way of making QBs look like superstars against us though.
Georgia is definitely deeper. Will be a good indicator of how much the gap has truly closed, barring anything crazy like a bunch of turnovers.

Well in 2020 we overwhelmed them with Trask slinging it all over the place. I know we cant expect that performance with a true freshman QB but you never know if our defense shows up a little.
Sad keeping it real. I’m not calling a blowout but the gap closing I’m not so sure is a real thing.

The reality is the portal (as Brad pointed out) and NIL continue to reshape the CFB landscape. Saban was paying players for years, and then NIL comes along and now suddenly Bama is mortal again. Look at Vandy, they have several key transfers, and boom, they are playing big boy football. I hate both, and it will eventually shake out to only 15 or so schools able to compete, but one positive side is that it will prevent a bama type run of 6 nattys in 12 years.

Violence isn't enough. You need intensity and discipline to go with it, or all you get is penalties.
Looks like Pyburn has all that as well. Seems like he was an under the radar 3 star coming out of Bolles.
