Feleipe Franks Officially Gator

He's not what I'd call fast for a QB, but he can take off for a 1st down when things break down.
At around 6-6 220, he physical enough to get some yards and then get down, which is what Mc-Nuss wants. -- R - 17 for 57 yds, 5.7 ypc, 1 TD - Zero Fumbles.

Feleipe Franks led his team to the state championship game last night and looked good in the process. And that other QB Jake Allen won their semi-final game as well and is in the state championship. Allen had a very good game as well

Lake Stevens (Wash.) five-star quarterback Jacob Eason has left his official visit at the University of Florida, and the Gators confidence in a possible flip of the Georgia pledge is at an all-time high. The 6-foot-5, 217-pound prospect appeared to thoroughly enjoy his trip to Gainesville over the couple days.

Eason saw the opportunity to play next fall for UF, and was given a detailed plan of how head coach Jim McElwain and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier seeing their offense evolve with a signal caller of his skill set in charge. There is no doubt Eason is the type of quarterback both envision running their offense a big frame and big arm, much like Feleipe Franks, who is already committed.

The mid-week visit certainly caused Eason to gain a bit of a celebrity status around campus the past few days. The buzz among the student body surrounding his visit must be one of the highest in recent history, which only made the trip that much more impressive for Eason.

Up next for Eason is a planned trip to Georgia with several family members in tow. The purpose of the trip is to meet with Kirby Smart and whoever his offensive coordinator will be on the staff. He obviously enjoys the UGA campus and Athens as well, but there has to be a scheme fit and confidence in the direction of the offensive side of the ball. This trip will also be the same weekend as few other Georgia offensive commits.

The other school that has been mentioned as a possibility is Miami. However, sources say that simply is not true. The desire to play in the SEC, and the desire to play early are the two biggest factors apparently keeping the Hurricanes out of it. Miami will have Brad Kaaya returning next fall as a junior.

Eason is an early enrollee. He will fly to San Antonio, Texas January 3, 2016 for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl practices. Following the game on January 9, he will head towards the school of his choice to move onto campus. The general feeling is a final decision for Eason, likely stay with UGA or flip to UF will come before December ends. Most do not see this stretching into the madness of Army week.

The 247Sports Composite, an industry generated average, currently ranks Eason as the nations No. 5 overall prospect and the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the 2016 class.

Nearly a week ago, Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla Top247 quarterback Feleipe Franks made the decision to commit to the Florida Gators. His decision to stay in-state came a day after watching Florida play Florida State inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium with his family.

“My parents never pressured me like that, and my brother went up there, my dad, my mom, everybody went up there, and we really liked it,” Franks told 247Sports’ Chris Nee. “When I felt the time was right, it’s not anybody else’s decision but mine. The was right then when I was in a meeting with Coach [Jim McElwain] and Coach [Doug Nussmeier], and I’m sticking with them. I love the decision.”

Two days after announcing his pledge to the Gators, LSU head coach Les Miles and Cam Cameron visited Franks as his home. The Tigers previously had Franks’ pledge before recently decommitting as Florida surged into the lead.

“I can’t say why they came, but they did come,” Franks said of the visit from LSU. “I had a great visit with them. I’ve been committed there so long, it’s kind of like a relationship outside of football and I just love talking to Coach Miles and Coach Cam. Me and him built a relationship. It’s just funny just getting them to the house and to see where we live at. It’s just fun because they’ve never been at our place and I’ve always been to their place. It was just a good talk with them.”

Earlier this week, much was made about Franks and if he would waver off Florida as the Gators brought in five-star quarterback Jacob Eason for a visit. He commented on the Gators still pursuing other quarterbacks in the 2016 class.

“I mean, it doesn’t really matter to me,” he answered. “It doesn’t matter.”

Franks says his only visit left is to Florida on December 12, follow his FHSAA 5A State Final game the day before. He will graduate in December and move to the University of Florida after the U.S. Army All-American Bowl to begin classes in January.

The 247Sports Composite, an industry generated average, currently ranks Franks as the nation’s No. 45 overall prospect and the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the 2016 class.

Michi -- QB-PP Kyle Trask
He doesn't throw Ints.
He doesn't give up fumbles.
He doesn't take many sacks.

Does that relate to having decent mobility?
You tell me? ;)

#32 QB-PP Kyle Trask 6-6 218 5.12/40 *** 77 - (UF commit, EE) Manvel's Primary Backup QB
Trask's HS Stats from 247 Sports:
2013-14-15 HS Career - 114 of 156 (73.1%) for 1,737 yds, 11.1 yds/att, 15.2 yds/comp, 17 TD's, 0 Ints.

2015 P - 47 of 64 (73.4%) for 761 yds, 10 TD's, 0 Ints. (he's getting better every year)
R - 17 for 57 yds, 5.7 ypc, 1 TD - Zero Fumbles.
Gator OC Nussmeier says that Kyle is as good as any 5 star that he's seen this season.

#3 QB-DT Feleipi Franks 6-6 219 **** 6.0 (UF commit, EE) -
#4 QB-PP ESPN 59/300 **** 85

P - 115 of 201 (57.2%) for 2,347 yds, 30 TD's, 2 Ints.
R - 22 for 179 yds, 8.1 ypc, 4 TD's - ?? Fum's, 1 LPF

Trask and Franks should be good competition for each other and both have demonstrated the talent to start. I know that I would not be afraid to go with either of these early enrollee true freshmen, I like them both -- A LOT!
I see them as 1a and 1b, not as 1st and 2nd string. chomp

And this is also why I've said that both TH & WG might xfer out....
(it's their decision to make) o_O
==============

I have always liked Will Grier.
I knew that he would beat out TH in 2015, and he did.
I'm really sorry that he had a brain fart and got a 365 day NCAA suspension.
That has destroyed both his 2015 rsFr season and his 2016 rsSo season.
It appears to me that he might have positioned himself right out of a job....

I would be mildly shocked if Eason decides to come to UF.

Grier would be absolutely retarded to transfer. Assuming everything holds as they are (and that's unlikely) his competition is a guy he already beat out, two true freshmen, and an ex walkon in Del Rio. And all he'd be doing is costing himself a full year instead of 6 games, further keeping him off the field. But there were rumors he's leaving, which makes zero sense to me.

Maybe and it still wouldn't make any sense. He's basically forfeiting a year instead of just 6 games. And unless one of the freshmen are some kind of otherworldly phenom they're going to struggle, which means he'll still be in line for PT. It would be a terrible decision n

I can see him leaving without Eason coming in.
Trask and Franks are both the 'real deal' as PP QB's.

If Grier was available instead of suspended until game #7 of 2016, then I'd say that he should stay, but as it is,,,, not so much. And he may be thinking the same thing, for good reason imo.

If Grier transfers, his suspension doesn't count until he is eligible again. So he would miss TWO years when it is all said and done.

It's funny, I remember some F$U fans saying that if Jimbo wants a QB, then he ALWAYS gets that QB. This is a case of a guy from Dumbos backyard that he wants pretty bad. He tried to flip Franks as soon as he committed and he pulled out all the stops. Apparently his family told Dumbo he is all Gator and so is his family! Frank's is going to be an awesome Gator!

I was not aware of that, I thought that it was a straight up 365 days no matter where he is. So maybe he has reason to stay for 2016, then decide after he sees where the QB's stand at mid-season. If he doesn't play the 2nd half of 2016, then I'd expect to see him go elsewhere. Grier is definitely good enough to play D1 somewhere.

Would that still be true if he went to a D2 or JuCo in the mean time?

If Eason comes we could have Grier, Eason, Trask and Franks competing in Spring ball. Goodness.

And their potential targets in the near future would be Powell, Thompson and Calloway, plus incoming Swain Wells Hammond Massey and Johnson, maybe the best WR class in the country.

If we can figure out how to block, it's gonna be ridiculous.

Knowing that Grier is not available until game 7 in 2016, IF I was the coach, I'd spend my Spring and Fall coaching time on those that will be available to start in game 1 of 2016.
Grier would be my 'fall-back position' IF none of the others panned out in the 1st 7 games. (surprised if Eason comes to UF)

I see it being between Trask and Franks to win the starting job next season.

I would think this is the plan. It's a sticky situation though because if you demote Grier to let's say 3rd string with the idea being 'hey you're not available anyway' that might alienate him and cause a transfer, which would be disastrous. So we need to prepare the other QB's while keeping him involved since we might have to call on him again at some point in the season anyway.

“I’m still committed (to Georgia) but I’m going to have to decide between the two. The positives and negatives and all that stuff,” Eason said. “Over this year, with coach Richt getting fired and all that stuff, (Florida) kind of popped up. The coaches have been wanting me to come down for awhile so I came down and I liked it a lot. It’s a great school and a great opportunity there too. It’s going to come down, ultimately, to what I decide and where I feel comfortable.

“I’ll come home and talk with my family and my dad and figure everything out.”

Why would Trask, Franks, and Eason all come to UF together?

Well......

It didn't seem to hurt any of these guys to all be at the scUM at the same time; Jim Kelly - Bernie Kosar - Vinny Testaverde.
At a top D1 school like UF, with a 'Top of the Line' Heisman QB history like the Gators have, all you need is to start for a season to go on to the NFL.

Also, anyone who doesn't win the starting job and then wants to xfer out, would be helped and aided to do so. Win - Win with no losers.

That would indeed be a perfect storm. I saw a photo the other day of the 80's Miami QB's on the roster. You don't see anything close to this anymore. In the photo was Jim Kelly, Vinny Testeverde, Bernie Kosar,Kyle Vanderwende, and Mark Richt. Obviously Richt never really ever sniffed the field. That was some stockpile of talent on the same team the same year.

We could have some fun with this theme I think, so how-bout this:

1995 Gator Roster QB's:

Noah (fat-dog) Brindise 6-3 215 Jr *** (College/Pro Coach, OC at UNLV)

Brian Shottenheimer 6-2 201 Jr *** (College/Pro Coach, OC at UGA)

Danny Wuerffel 6-2 211 So **** (Heisman, 4x SEC-C, 1996 mNC, NFL Saints/Packers/Skins, World Bowl Champion at NFL-Eu with the Rhein Fire, Galen Hall was HC)

Eric Kresser 6-2 207 **** (1996 xfer out, D2 NC at Marshal, NFL w/Cincy.
Currently teaching QB's at the Kresser Passing Academy in S. FL)

Bobby Sabelhaus 6-6 231 Fr ***** #1 HS QB - X-fer out, too much pressure, never made it anywhere as a QB. However, one of the QB's listed below him in the rankings coming out of HS was 4 star Tom Brady.

There is something of a happy ending to his story though, for football is not the real world. Bobby Sabelhaus has gone on to Hollywood (also not the real world ;) ) and become a movie producer. Lauren Shuler Donner, the producer of St. Elmo’s Fire, Any Given Sunday, the X-Men franchise and more than two dozen other films, hired Sabelhaus as her assistant producer. Sabelhaus has worked for Donner on three films, X-Men: The Last Stand, She’s the Man and Constantine, (so good for him). :)

Not a bad group of QB's at one school in the same year...

Has Florida ever had a 6'5/6'6" quarterback play for a whole season? UF might get two of them at once - Trask & Franks. Maybe Chris Collinsworth played for a brief time before switching to a wide receiver.

It seems like only other schools like Tennessee (Peyton Manning), Miami, FSU & Southern Cal often get these freakishly, talented QB's. At 6'4", Tim Tebow did manage to break the mold for a Florida quarterback.

Back in those days it is known that Miami made it worth the players while to play for them.

From the Sun;

One thing will be for sure next year — the Florida Gators won’t have a shortage of quarterbacks.

Will Grier’s mid-season suspension was a major blow to the UF offense, and production at the QB position worsened each week after Treon Harris took over. Despite Harris’ regression, Florida coach Jim McElwain stuck with him because he had no other viable options.

That won’t be the case in 2016.

Barring Harris transferring, the Gators will have at least four signal callers for spring and fall, and five once Grier’s suspension ends six games into the season.

In addition to soon-to-be eligible transfer Luke Del Rio and incoming early enrollees Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask, the Gators are still recruiting UGA commit Jacob Eason and Maryland commit Dwayne Haskins, both of whom have officially visited Florida. Haskins is considered a long shot.

Franks is not worried about Eason or the potential of a stacked QB depth chart.

“Competition, I’ve been around it my whole life. I wouldn’t even know how to live without it,” he said.

Franks and Trask have both signed their early enrollment paperwork with the Gators, and they sent Eason home with his at the end of his visit. He plans to make a final decision between Florida and Georgia next week.

McElwain and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will need a true freshmen to step up.

“They are telling me to be ready when I get here because they need depth at the quarterback position,” Trask said. “I’m ready to do what I need to do. I feel like I can run Mac’s type of offense because he has developed the quarterbacks that I feel are similar to me. I’m looking forward to it.”

Del Rio, who impressed in offseason workouts last summer, is considered the leading candidate heading into the spring. How Grier will factor in remains to be seen, but it’s unlikely he transfers prior to next season. He would have sit out a year and then continuing serving the rest of his suspension before he could play.

Harris’ days as Florida’s starter appear to be numbered given his skill set and McElwain’s direction of the offense.

“I’m trying to push the envelope,” McElwain said. “That’s how we’re going to be offensively as we continue to grow.”

terrapin = tortise (land animal) turtle is water-based
A little additional information: Colloquial Names -- Tortise = goffer ----- Turtle = cooter

Y'awl is welcome.... :D
=================

Both Tim Tebow and Shane Matthews were/are 6-3, not - 6-4.

Spurrier - Heisman, Only Sugar Bowl MVP on a losing team 6-2
Wuerffel - Heisman, 4x SEC-C, mNC 6-2
Leak - UF Career Passing Yards Record, SEC-C, BCS-NC - 6-0
Tebow -- Heisman, 2x SEC-C, 2x BCS-NC - 6-3

You just have to be 'good enough' to be successful, not tall enough... o_O

PS

JMOHO of course, but Trask an Franks will battle for the 1-2 at QB in the Spring and Fall, (and I'd be happy with either as the starter, may the best QB win)

Sadly Wakula (Feleipe's team) lost the State Championship 37-34 today to Bishop Moore. Feleipe barely missed a 50-yd FG as time expired to tie the game.

Franks looked pretty good. Odd playcalling by Wakulla IMO. They should have thrown the ball much more the way Franks was throwing the ball.
