He was a polished speaker/politician. Like Biden said, he was "the first sort of mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean".

I also wouldn't be shocked to see him eliminate some federal agencies.
He will install the right people at the top of each organization and let them do the reforming. I am positive he has these people identified already.
Most importantly we have to FIRE leadership in these agencies. They are not fair people. This will take his full term to accomplish this

I lived this same election in 1980. The USA was in a very similar situation then, with a very dynamic Republican leader running against a glorified idiot. I saw this election almost identical . And what is amazing is that polling was way off then to! Guess which way? They had Carter tied right up to the end. I was 18 then and knew better.
Party was exposed for what it always was when LBJ moved the party from open segregation to the party of the housing project.
You no longer had a plantation with sharecroppers. You ran for office and put you employees in the housing project. They would vote for you and then you got power an wealth by raping the system. The irony was that the integrationist paid for it all. They lost votes and got taxed to keep dems in power. Dems moved "those people" across to the bad part of town and put them in substandard housing. The typical duplex with window ac and costly baseboard electric heat.
Once segregation was a moot issue, conservative dem voters saw they had more in common with republicans than they did dems. Since dems had surrendered the integration issue to the pubs they no longer had an issue that kept them in the party. And yet it still took another generation for pubs to take over the South. My grandfather was not a racist, was socially conservative but fiscally a liberal.
