Do you believe in God?

And a word of advice for you. You should try to understand the background of what you read. That way you’re not just blindly taking someone’s word for something. This applies to every text, not just the Bible. Worship God, not a book.

That was sort of my point. In no way am I ever taking "someone's" word for something. I'm honestly not sure how you missed that part.

I understand the background on how the modern day Bible came to be. I've heard everything that you have heard. That's the entire point of prayer and opening your heart and ear to God before reading the Bible.

That said, it's not a buffet. You don't get to pick and choose what to believe. If you believe in God and you believe that Satan is an actual force of evil, which one do you think would benefit from you picking and choosing what parts of the Bible are from God?

You were doing OK until the last paragraph. I don’t believe in Satan. Humans choose to be good or evil. Free will.

I did "ok" throughout...you simply have a different opinion on the last paragraph. You get that, right?

The existence of Satan does not, in any way whatsoever, diminish free will. We disagree on the existence of Satan. Not the boogeyman...Satan. Those are two entirely different concepts.

Of course you do. You’re Baptist. You’re required to take a literal interpretation of the Bible.

But you say you know all about the Bible, huh?

Who wrote the Book of Genesis? When was it written? Where is Satan mentioned?
What do the first 5 books have in common?
How was the OT documented?
What are the synoptic gospels?
Why is the KJV used today? What is the difference from the historical bible used for over a millennial?
Who wrote the Book of Revelation?

I was probably an agnostic most of my life but deep down I knew there was a supreme power. I became a believer several years ago from an experience that happened. Take it for what it's worth. I have never buried myself into religious study. Here is what happened:

One Sunday morning I walked to my mailbox and retrieved my newspaper. There was a headline that read: Ernie Irvin not expected to live. I was a NASCAR fan and followed "Swervin Irvin" as one of my favorite drivers. Ernie had a beautiful wife and a young child. The headline was painful to read. I stopped, closed my eyes and said, "Please dear God, let this man live." Again, take it however you want but I was surrounded with a voice (and I'm not sure that explains it because I can't say it was audible) that simpley said, "He will live! He will race again!" I was astonished.

I walked into my house and my wife asked something about the news. I told her that Ernie Irvin was not expected to live but he will. She asked how I knew that. I replied that I just spoke to God and he told me that he will. He lived, he raced again, and he won.

Those words will ring in my head forever. IMO, man can communicate with God but not on a casual basis. BTW, I went to church as a child and occasionally as an adult. I do not go to church now but I do pray to God and believe in prayer. My advice to anyone that prays to God is that it must come from your heart and not just mumbling words.

Believing in something bigger than you is, IMO, extremely important for not just your life, but society as a whole. But, organized religion has killed more people in history, by far, more than anything else , it preys on the poor and indigent as an opioid for the masses and its thrives in hypocrisy so because of that I'm an agnostic. This is just my opinion in case it makes some people get angry
Believing in things larger than oneself is also how you stay off the happy pills. Navel gazing needs to run its course fairly early in the lifecycle.

There's an interesting portion of the Qu'ran were Shaitan appears to Mohammed and tells him hey, remember when the Angel appeared before you and told you the word of Allah? Yeah, that was me, gotcha!

That part of the Qu'ran almost got Salman Rushie killed.

Having an anthropomorphic personification of evil results in some interesting observations about whether or not your god is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent.

Similar to when Satan was trying to tempt Jesus and He countered with, fooled you, I’m really God. You’d think he would have known that after Jesus walked on water, but I guess Satan ain’t that bright.

I'm not required to do a damn thing jackass.

I could manage to insult your faith if I was so inclined, but I am not. You continue to do that to mine and I have never returned the favor. I won't start now.

I've said my piece to you ITT. Take it, leave it...or just be a giant asshat. I don’t really care at this point.

But you say you know all about the Bible, huh?

BTW....I literally never said that. 😂

I've never said it to anyone because it would be a lie. I know lifelong biblical scholars who would never say something so obtuse. But that didn't stop you from pretending that I said it...or are you pulling a kalim and "you just knew what I meant?" 😄

Do you really hate a person from the internet this much?

I guess I don't understand.

No? You seemed to be implying it, that’s for sure.

So sensitive. Why is it insulting your faith? Most Southern Baptists believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible. You don’t?

The share of Southern Baptists who say the Bible is the literal word of God (61%) exceeds the share who hold this belief among all U.S. adults (31%) and among other evangelical Protestants (53%).

You know that is not true. Why say that.
Ghost claims to have “seen” God but my post is the one you choose to call out. If you guys weren’t such lapdogs, you’d realize what he said was blasphemous.

No human has literally seen God. (Exodus 33:20; John 1:18; 1 John 4:12) The Bible says that “God is a Spirit,” a form of life that is invisible to the human eye.—John 4:24; 1 Timothy 1:17.

God can be seen directly by angels, though, because they are spirit creatures. (Matthew 18:10) Moreover, some humans who die will be raised to life in heaven with a spirit body and will then be able to see God.—Philippians 3:20, 21; 1 John 3:2.

They like to throw barbs, but when it gets turned around on them. Oh No!
when the gang gets threatened they all attack. Good thing they outnumber independents and liberals by 10-1, I would hate to see even numbers...

This isn't a discussion that I will have with you. I'd have it with many others but not with you.
