Martez Ivey and Fred Johnson. These guys won't get much love but do you guys understand these are two true freshmen book ending our o-line? UT has one of the best d-lines in the country and Grier was clean almost the entire night. I watched them closely and they were stoning UT's ends time after time. And again, they're true freshman. Skies the limit for both and I personally feel they're the two best players on the team. So much potential and the scary part is they're only gonna get better. Our freshman class is studly!

Good post Paco. Our Oline is gong to take its lumps this year, but those two guys look like they are going to be fantastic anchors for the next few years.

FWIW the staff is just as high on Fred Johnson as they are on Ivey. Johnson is raw he hasn't even played football for that long.

Calloway is a stud too but it's much more difficult to do what they're doing on the line. In two years no one will be able to touch the QB's. Hell they're already beasts now. They were fantastic today. And if you guys will remember both were out in the game against UK when we had to seal the deal. Speaks to the confidence the coaches have in both.

I was actually pretty impressed with Grier in the 2nd half...dude took a beating and stayed strong. His nickname should be 4th. Dude is stud on 4th downs! Congrats on the win, fellas. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Tennessee fans have their hearts ripped out late in the 4th quarter in heartbreaking fashion.

Kudos!

No doubt and Calloway is a freaking stud too. I know that he had the long ball for a TD which was awesome but he caught 4 other balls, Grier went to him like 4 other times, kid returns pun ts and almost had a big return too...that kid is a freaking baller!

I have to admit I am starting to think Grier may potentially be a really good one after that 4th quarter against Tennessee as he was taking a beating and kept his composure taking what the defense was giving him driving us down to score for the win.

OK, that was bad....couldnt help it.

Brandon Powell IMO should be considered for MVP of the game. He had a TD, at least 2 of the 4th down conversions, and the block to take out 2 defenders to win the game.
Just keep him off kick-off returns. Dude keeps making the same mistake over and over and over.

I've been waiting for Powell to show out. I'm glad he did yesterday. I'm hoping it is something he can build on for the rest of the season. With Callaway getting better weekly we are starting to develop some playmakers.

This! He looked exhausted, and willed our team to a win. The TD drive before last was all due to him. What a game he had.

He stepped up huge in the fourth, but I'm still in wait and see. Besides the horrible defense, we were in the position we were in because he played horrific for three quarters. I'm talking Driskel level bad. Feeling pressure that wasn't there and inexplicably double clutching the ball, throwing off his back foot, gunning the ball to receivers literally feet away and still missing horribly, overthrowing wide open receivers, etc. I don't think he stepped into a throw until the fourth.

But yes he did come through big and hung tough and hopefully he builds on it. Our oline is getting better and better as is our skill players. There won't be any excuse not to at least be decent the next few games.

He's the QB for the future at UF because he is all we got at the moment.

Ya, that was pretty bad, but seriously...kid stood tall despite being knocked around. Your wins against Kentucky and ECU looked better yesterday too. Kinda hoping FSU and UF are both ranked come thanksgiving weekend. Lord knows we need the SOS boost. ;)

When Driskel came in and played at LSU as a freshman he as terrible..I know that Grier has been in college for his 2nd year now but he's way better than JD. All of the stuff you are saying is correct...but he makes quite a few throws on time...he needs to work on his accuracy some and deep ball but outside of that he's pretty good. The line is getting better but there are a lot of plays that he's running or taking hits...kid has played pretty well under pressure. QB is the by far the hardest position on the field...I think that Grier has played a pretty gritty game so far. I think that he might be pretty damn good. We'll see how it shakes out but so far pretty good by a freshman who will likely get a LOT better.

I think that the future looks pretty bright with this kid taking snaps...when this offensive line gets experience they are going to be a force in the league. I'm hella excited about this team and program...we have some rough games coming up but I like what this staff has done thus far this year and I like how these players are playing. Go Gators!

I'm a Grier fan. He's still a redshirt freshmen and still just getting his feet wet. Not to mention its a new offensive system with a work in progress Oline. The play calling is light years better than it has been and we actually attack and try and score points now. I'm not sure what people were expecting on offense this year. Not only does the coaching staff have to work with the personnel they were given they also have to change the entire mentality of every single player on the offensive side of the ball that has been Muschamped.

I have no issue with the offense. In fact, given the talent level they have to work with, they've been more impressive than the defense. Their sloppiness is inexcusable given their talent and experience.

Grier was awful for 3 qtrs yesterday and has ZERO touch on his deep ball. Loooonnnngggggg ways to go

There a a couple different people that could be the MVP...but you got to look at the Oline as a whole..they did have a few plays that were bad but overall they played a great game.. made holes for KT and pass blocked really good for WG. They gave up 3 sacks but I honestly thought UT was going to dominate the Oline. If they can block like that the rest of the year we will have a shot in every game IMO

Grier > Harris.

Harris couldn't make that throw that Grier did to Callaway for the GW TD. And a QB needs to be a leader of the team and somebody you can depend on. Right now Harris isn't mature enough and can't keep himself out of trouble.

After his decisions off the field. Harris needs to look into either 1. Position change. 2. Being content as a back up or special package type player 3. Transferring

Hopefully neither 2 or 3. He isn't athletic enough to play a skill position either so I don't know why people constantly suggest it. We should all hope he stays. We literally just got out of a situation where we crowned a guy way too early (Driskel), all his competition transferred (Brissett, Murphy) and he basically had the job by default for three years. Then when he didn't perform or was injured, we had nobody to go to.

Treon Harris is 5-2 as a starter. And he's done that as a true freshman in a terrible offensive scheme as we've talked about to infinity here. Why wouldn't anyone want that as a backup? If he transfers we're left with two ex walk-ons in Guy and Del Rio and a 2-star QB recruit who can't even start on his own HS team. It would be Driskel Part 2 all over again. Grier has shown some good things, and he's also shown some bad things. There is no reason at all to be writing off other QB's. Through 4 games in their first season as starters, Driskel outperformed Grier, just to put things in perspective. Imagine what you'd all be saying about Driskel had he thrown for 125 with no TD's and an INT against UK. Or likewise if he had the performance through three quarters that Grier had yesterday. Don't let your hope for the new QB cloud what's in front of you.

It is more to do with his selfishness. I know your argument that many other members of the team toke it up. However like it or not, the QB position is different. You have to be the leader or be ready to step in as the leader. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time around the wrong chick and in the wrong car twice already. This time he got caught.

Gavin Dickey led his team to multiple HS State Championships. He saw the field more with a position change.

If Harris is content being a back up.QB I hope he sticks around...and stays away from trouble.

I don't disagree with that. Also recognize that after ECU I also gave the opinion that Grier should be the starter if nothing else to open up our ground game by backing safeties up off the line. So we're mostly in agreement. I'm more speaking to the people who thinks he should transfer and/or it's Grier's job for good now. Grier should continue to start as long as he plays well, but only then. And if he struggles, then we have a competent backup. I'm not trying to see the exact same situation that played out with Driskel play out again, the more comp we have the better, it forces whoever is starting to perform.

Here are coupla thoughts about the Grier/Harris debate.

1.) If Harris does not smoke weed and get suspended, he would have undoubtedly seen some playing time. He might have even been called on to bail us out given how ineffective Grier looked for three quarters. To say nothing of the fact that it looked like Grier was playing hurt. Harris blew a big chance to be a hero yet again in this game just because he decided to smoke some weed. That is dumb, dumb, dumb.

2.) Grier probably does NOT get the chance to be the hero if Harris is available. He does not get the chance to throw 5 for 5 on passes for 125 yards during fourth down situations. He does not get the chance to show his toughness and determination, getting hammered time after time and getting back up and performing under pressure.

3.) The team, if they understand anything, has to see the reality of the two above situations. Grier has earned the right to be the starter.

Grier was definitely playing hurt. As he entered the tunnel at halftime, he held his throwing arm stationary down by his side in an awkward looking bent position. You could tell he was in pain.

I'm on the same page as you with all you said, especially the Driskel situation replaying. I'd love to have a talent like Harris as a back up. I just don't see him staying if he does not see the field. That is why I also think he should seek being a package player or possibly explore options at other positions. I don't how good he is/isn't at other skill positions.

Oozie nailed it. We NEED Harris. I would not be shocked if Mac had to call on him this year either due to Grier's ineffectiveness or due injury.

Right, and to MJ's earlier point, had he not gotten in trouble he likely would have been called on Saturday given how ineffective Grier was for three quarters. We are gonna need both at some point in time. So far, I'd say Grier has come through big in 1 game UT and Harris has come through big in 1 (ECU). I don't think either is good enough to run away with the job (yet), though Grier has the most potential. Grier should keep starting as long as he performs though, key being as long as he performs. He's earned at least that after Saturday.
