Batteries cost more than the car

they do make economic sense, thats the point. you dont want them too for some very odd reason.

Not according to math. But you disagree and I am fine with that.

I absolutely would like for them to become economically viable. I've stated that repeatedly on this board. Did you hear it this time?

In a perfect world, they would also make sense economically in a world where gas doesn't cost $4 a gallon. I'm hopeful for that as well.

This is why you can't argue with dems like @Mdfgator. His love of EVs is motivated by politics. Our view of them is motivated by common sense and logic. That's why we can see most of the current technologies are immature and not ready for market. But in the future if that changes, we would happily support such products if they gave us better alternatives.

Any logical person thinks this way.

The most I ever financed a car for was 9K. Used Pontiac Vibe. Great car and I got 34 mpg average. I retired it at 300K because everything BUT the motor was falling apart. Motor is the toyota corolla/matrix. I then bought a 2011 Nissan Sentra for 6K. My daughter drives it.

We have a 2006 Sienna @ just over 100k miles and a 2007 Camry nearing 200K . Inherited the Seinna and the Camry was a hand me down from the FIL. He liked the Camry that came out about 3 years ago with all the wiz bang gadgets and bought himself one for his birthday. We got the old car which he had babied and kept in great condition.

My son was given a Grand Marquis by my dad but he is only 15 and has yet to get his permit.

I have not bought a car in over 6 years and paid off the Sentra early .

My house payment is $810/mo.

I am interested in cheap gas not some EV that costs nearly as much as my mortgage

In addition. batteries do not last very long and present an environmental problem when disposing of them.
And who owns the market on lithium batteries????? DING DING DING........CHINA! If you go along with EVs, you might as well hand over your freedom to the CCP because they will own peoples' asses through the Green Nickelodeon Slime Deal that pushes these failed vehicles.

As you know...dims do not care about this AT ALL. Whatever suites their agenda. They would rather shut down oil wells in america and fund the chinese. No secret here

they are i am not sure why youre having an issue with this. like to like they are far more efficient, dont compare my 110k car to a 35k chevy, they compare it to a porsche. the model 3 is 40k does 0-60 in 5 seconds, thats blazing fast and it gets up to 148 mpge, depending on how aggressively you drive. this is all very easily accessable info. you simply are swinging at ghosts that are not there.

what does it tell you? LOL....you dont expect tech to advance and become cheaper? what planet do you live on....
I do not make huge financial decisions on "MAY HAPPENS" I am much, MUCH smarter than that...especially when the people you are getting your info from have a HUGE financial agenda for you to believe what they are selling you. I have ran the sales department of the same Chevy Dealership for 35 years..it is my job to KNOW this stuff...not HOPE that something happens that I HOPE

I would so LOVE to see the look on the faces of these EV car owners when their battery goes to shyt already. The costs including labor! They'd be like.......

iu
It's $15k, and the supply chain for the raw materials (plus Biden-flation) will only drive that number up.

While they still try to ignore the costs of battery replacements, and their toxic negative affects on the environment when making them, and when attempting to dispose of them.... 🤓

i drive a tesla, its an amzing car thats very inexpensive for me to drive, where are you getting your info?

nice try, i dont only want you to drive an EV, tesla is the best, i want you to stop eating meat and swith to beyond meat or impossible, you can save your health and that of the planet that we all love so much!!
I knew it. At least 10 items with the words 'plant-based' in mom's kitchen at this moment, amirite? Impossible and Beyond Meat are trash you probably have a bag of Simulate Nuggs and Boca or Morning Glory Veggie Burgers too, right?

Hilarious.

If you stop eating meat, it doesn't save your health, it places serious stress on your diet that must be addressed responsibly. Going 'plant-based' won't cut it.

And I can pretty much guarantee I've eaten less meat in my life than you have. I am just smart enough to understand the risks and address them responsibly. Hopefully one day you will grow up and stop trusting your health to your politics.

Claimed Battery Life Length: 8 years or about 120,000 miles.
Claimed Battery Capacity Retention: 70%

The battery in any Tesla car will last at least 267 miles on a single charge. Various factors determine the range of batteries. These are how you drive (the jackrabbits die quicker) and the size of your battery. The most extended range Tesla currently offers is roughly 375 miles per full charge. And the range diminishes as the batteries age. When the batteries get to 70%, the range between charges drops from 267 miles, down to 187 miles.
Using 'quick charges' on the road reduces the life and range of the batteries.

It can take anywhere from 1 hour to 7 days to fully charge a Tesla. Here’s a breakdown of the charging methods and approximately how long each take to fully charge a Tesla from a low battery:
Level 1 AC (120V outlet at home): 20-40 hours AC.
Level 2
(Third party chargers/Tesla chargers/Tesla 240V home charger): 8-12 hours.
Level 3 DCFC (Tesla Supercharger 480V): 15-25 minutes.
Miles per 15 minutes of Supercharging - Model S = 163 miles.

Superchargers can recharge a vehicle’s battery up to 80% in about 40 minutes. After the battery reaches 80%, it will begin to charge slower in an attempt to protect the battery’s health until it reaches a full charge.

I can fill my car in about 3 min. and the truck in about 5 min.

Replacing a single battery can cost you anywhere from $5,000 to $7,000.
But Tesla vehicles don't run on a single battery.
Battery replacements also vary wildly, with some re-manufactured packs priced at a little over $16,000.00, while new packs go for well over $20,000.

I've yet to see the Megadumbfraudgator address the total costs to the world environment:
That includes the hidden $$$ costs to the taxpayers that they never address.

Damage done to the world environment in the manufacturing of the batteries.
Damage done to the world environment in the attempts to dispose of the used batteries.
What the Green school fools never want to address, is the full costs for their environmental idiocies....

Claimed: As the tech rapidly improves, it all works better and it gets cheaper. So how long can we expect to wait for it to be practical for everyone world-wide?

I guess the next question should be how long has man been at it already?
The electric car story begins far longer ago than you might have thought. In 1839 (183 years ago), a Scottish inventor named Robert Davidson created what is believed to be the world's first electric vehicle – a carriage powered by a motor of his own design and rudimentary, non-rechargeable liquid-acid batteries. If it's such a great idea, then why is it taking so long to reach a desirable level in the open market???
(mostly crickets coming, as usual)

The cheapest Model 3 Tesla that I found on the interwebz was $57,900. Most were $70k (long range). I'm not sure where you are getting your numbers from.

A similarly equipped Camry is about $35k. The annual fuel costs are ~ $2,400. The battery on the Model 3 will last about 8 years and will cost $16,500 to replace. 8 year cost of Camry fuel is $19,200.

Camry- 35k + 19,200 = $54,200 after 8 years

Tesla 3- 57,900 + 16,500 = $74,400 after 8 years

As I said, it's not even close. Math doesn't lie man.

That doesn't even include the recharging costs. And the figures get much worse if I use the Tesla Model 3 Long Range...which is actually more comparable to the capabilities of the Camry than the one I used.

Technology will advance, but the question is where will it advance and more importantly WHO is controlling its trajectory. I'll give you a hint in 3 letters......C C P. Figure that out IF you can.
LOL. technology will advance and nobody is controlling it, take your crazy pills!!!

lol, thats not the price thats the after market price becasue demand is so high, go buy one from tesla you will have it by the first quarter of next year.

Here's a fool that believes that plants are not a part of gods creatures.... SMDH, then LMFAO... 😂

"The other two plants (common rhododendron) are then hooked up to electro-encephalographs (EEG – brain wave monitors.) and they march the men in one by one. The plants exhibit no alarm, but as soon as the one responsible for the plant death enters the room, the other two plants start registering wildly on the graphs."

you need to eat more plants too. you would be more godlike if you didnt commit murder to feed yourself....try it, you, your doctor and mother earth will all be pleased.

And they'd be much more affordable too
BINGO! This guy gets economics.

They are overpriced because they can't be mass produced because there isn't a mass demand for them. The only people who want them are political hipsters who can also afford them.

And most of the people who would buy one just cause of their politics can't afford one. No offense, @Mdfgator

How is slaughtering plants saving the lives of God's creatures?

You pay 2-3 more for 'plant-based' copies that have a third of the nutritional value of the meats they are supposed to replace, then you call others sheep.

But you are living out your politics, so you're happy. You do you.

Also most of the electricity to re-charge these batteries is being generated by fossil fuels.

Megadumbfraudgator is a specieaphobe or a specieist. He indiscriminately murders plants of all varieties in order to protect the evil meat animals that are destroying the Earth with their farts.... 😬 By me eating steaks, I'm actually protecting the Earth from O-Zone destruction....

BTW --- Not just black plants matter, but ALL PLANTS matter.... 🤓.

God gave man dominion over the animals. You may believe that eating animals is murder. We disagree....so eating meat doesn't make one less "godlike."
