Gator Softball Season Has Begun! UF is now 3-0 after the first weekend of play.

UF 9 - 0 S.ILL
UF 5 - 2 St.John's

#4 UF 2 - 1 Mich #6 --- in 10 innings.
(gators ain't afraid of no wolverines) :D

They are 4-0 now on their way to being 5-0. Beat Delaware earlier this afternoon 9-0 in 5 innings. Freshman Katie Chronister, freshman pitcher, threw a 1-hitter and freshman 3rd baseman Jamie Hoover hit a grand slam. After 5 innings right now against an undefeated South Florida team that beat Michigan 6-4 yesterday, Gators are up 5-0. National freshman of the year last year, Amanda Lorenz, has all 5 RBI's and sophomore Kelly Barnhill has 9 strikeouts with only 1 hit allowed. Best pitching staff in the nation with 4 quality pitchers. We'll see how the clutch hitting works out with most of the girls who won the 2 national titles now graduated. They especially miss Aubree Munro, the best defensive catcher in the nation the last 3 years and they're alternating a couple of girls now to see who can step up. But no doubt, Coach Walton has another Top 10 team and it will be fun to watch how new leaders and new freshmen perform, especially once they get into SEC play.

Gators finished off USF 8-0 in a 6 inning mercy rule. Barnhill complete game, 1 baserunner, no walks, 12 K's. For the weekend the 4 Gator pitchers only gave up 1 earned run with 46 strikeouts and only 5 walks. Very impressive 5-0 start!!!

2 Gator pitchers deliver B-2-B One Hitters for the team on Sunday, to finish off as the 5-0 Touney Winners at USF in Tampa.

Vs #25/24 USF, Kelly Barnhill So - Kelly's 3rd 1 Hitter for UF. She struck out 12 batters and issued zero walks over her 87 pitches delivering an 8-0 (6) win.

Vs Delaware, Katie Chronister Fr - Katie's 1st collegiate start. She struck out four and issued one walk over 55 pitches in a 9-0 (5) victory.

The Gators finished off the opening weekend at 5-0 with wins over 2 Top 25 teams. (#25/24 USF and #6 Mich) The Gator's defense only gave up 1 error in the first 5 games.

And oh BTW, Amanda Lorenz set a new career-high for RBIs after she drove in five runs against No. 25/24 USF on Sunday.

The 2017 newbees were looking pretty good over the weekend. Besides Katie's 1 Hitter, Jaimie Hoover Fr hit her 1st career HR, a Grand Slam, in the bottom of the second inning against Delaware in the 9-0 (5) Gator victory.

While Sophia Reynoso rsFr hit her 1st career HR in the top of the 6th inning against No. 25/24 USF.

UF 9 - 0 ILLSt (5)
UF 5 - 2 St John's (7)
UF 2 - 1 Mich (OT (10)
UF 9 - 0 Del (5)
UF 8 - 0 USF (6)
UF 33 - 3 Combined Opponents with 3 Shut-Outs

JU is up next on Wednesday at 6 PM for Coach Tim Walton (another Foley hire).
==========

Talk about a tough way to open a season! The Gators opened Lacrosse play vs #1 Ranked and 2016 NC North Carolina. They finally went down UF 10 - 13 NC in a very hard fought game. Opening the season against #1 NC is like showing up on the first day of class and having to take a final exam. With 3:50 left in the game the score was tied at 10-10.

The 5-1 Gator gymnastice team got back on track after a close loss to UA, by beating SECe Rival UGA. Next up is Ark on the 17th at 7 PM in Fayetteville.

The Gator Baseball team enters the season ranked #2 in the Nation. UF and LSU were voted as the favorites by the league's coaches to win the SEC title and Florida had a league-high 5 players on the Preseason All-SEC 1st Team.

Opening Night
- Friday Feb 17th 6:30 PM in G'ville vs William & Mary.

Gator Baseball: The Gators had 6 Pitchers taken by MLB in their last draft, 2 went in the first 47 picks.
The Gator's are screwed with their pitching rotation now, right? o_O

Apparently not. Alex Faedo is the newest Ace, but how good is he, (97 mph fastball)?

Borderline impossible, at least for me. That’s how I feel when I go up there against him,” J.J. Schwarz said. “I don’t know how any team can ever score a run off of him. I can’t even like foul-tip a pitch, so it’s going to be good.”

Having an ace-in-waiting ready to step into the Friday night role helps. Having an entire weekend rotation of future early draft picks really helps. Friday-Faedo, Saturday-Singer (97 mph), Sunday-Kowar

Are any of them hot?

I'm still wiping my morning coffee off the screen... :D

After going 5-0, that included 3 Shutouts, at the USF Wilson-DeMarini Invitational this past weekend, the #3-4 Gator Softball team jumped to #1 in both polls. It is the 3rd consecutive year that UF has been ranked #1 in both national polls after the opening weekend of play. :)

Then they went to Jax for a mid week game vs 4-1 JU and came away with a 6-0 (6) Shutout. Senior RHP Delaine Gourley upped her season scoreless inning streak to 14.0 innings and maintains a 0.00 ERA on the season through two starts and three appearances.

While Junior 2B Nicole DeWitt is currently riding a 4-game hitting streaking after going 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored against Jacksonville.

Gator Men's Swimming and Diving FIVE-PEAT as SEC Champions!
In SEC-C History, their (38 SEC-C) makes them 2nd only to UK B-Ball (47) in total SEC-C's.
For the 1st time ever, the Gator men have swept all 5 relays at the SEC Championships.

The Gator Women's team, consisting of mostly freshmen and sophomores, placed 7th overall. They swam a 400 Freestyle Relay with an all freshmen group. It's a tremendous group to work with. I think the future's bright." Then they capped off their night by taking a Silver Medal in the 1650 freestyle.

#3 Gator Gymnastics rolls with another win @ #23 Arkansas.

Our #1 ranked softball team went 4-1 in a tournament in Gainesville this weekend to stand at 10-1. I read somewhere this is the first loss by Gator softball in a pre-conference tournament in Gainesville since 2007. They beat Florida A & M 8-1 and Northwestern St. 9-3 on Friday, lost inexplicably to an 0-8 Maryland team 4-2 Saturday before coming back to beat Northwestern St. again later in the day 10-0. They finished up by beating FIU 5-0 Sunday afternoon. They'll probably lose their #1 ranking for now, but are still a formidable team, led by their pitching staff with a 0.86 ERA, 111 K's to 17 BB's. Freshman 3rd baseman Jaime Hoover has 2 grand slams and leads the team in RBI's with 12. The #2 ranked baseball team will be 3-0 within the next few minutes, leading William & Mary 11-3 going to the 8th inning. They beat them 5-4 Friday night & 8-1 Saturday. Some very impressive freshmen (Langworthy, Bell, Baker) producing with a very talented group of returners. Exciting time of year for gator athletics.

I saw they lost to Maryland yesterday, somehow the only losses any of our top womens sports teams have i see the scores of when they happen, or every time they show gymnastics on tv they lose... the way they score gymnastics is total shit to begin with, anything with a judge they base on how someone lands a certain way and it's hilarious how bama gets the bags in that too, it's like the only other sport they try in other than football, and softball if the bags are left over...

They must have thought they were auburn like we do to all bad auburn teams in sports

Or Georgia from last year.
This year's softball team is going to rely much more heavily on their pitching because they don't have many proven clutch hitters compared to the teams that won the 2 titles. So far, sophomore Kelly Barnhill has been their best pitcher. In a game Friday against NW St., Ocasio was cruising along and all of a sudden gave up 5 straight hits and they were tied 3-3. They then scored 6 runs in their half of the inning and broke it open. Against Maryland, Gourley had 1 bad inning and gave up 3 runs, but they couldn't get any clutch hits and lost. They had the bases loaded with 1 out in the bottom of the 6th and couldn't score. Teams are going to pitch around Lorenz & Kvistad until others prove they can come through in close games. Coach Walton is a great coach and brings in top notch players every year. But they still have to prove themselves on the big stage. They play a fairly easy 5 games in Orlando this coming weekend, then head to California for 5 games before opening their SEC schedule. Hopefully, they can put it all together and make another run to OK City.

I love what Coach Walton has done for Florida softball. He brought us to back to back NCs, plus other appearances. The man is a great coach.

Last year was a kick in the solar plexus. Walton knows how to build a team that knows how to win. He will have us back.

The #3 Gator Softball team is honking, adding 2 more Shutouts on Friday in Kissimmee.

The Gators have 8 Shutouts (in 13 games), with 5 one-hitters pitched.
UF 2-0 Syracuse (6-4)
UF 4-0 Fordham (7-4)

The Gator freshmen have been playing lights-out, both at the plate and in the field.

The entire team has only made 1 error in 13 games.....
Pitchers are afraid of Jr .448 Kayli Kvistad (Lake City, FL) 1 HR with 16 walks.
Problem is, freshman .333 Jordan Roberts (Live Oak, FL) already has 2 HR's.
And freshman .360 Jaimie Hoover (Suwanee, Ga) also has 2 HR's both Gran Slams!
* Jaimie has the 1 error, but she also has 8 RS on 9 hits with 13 RBI's.
RS-freshman .433 Sophia Reynoso (Palmdale, Ca) has 1 HR.
While sophomore .286 Amanda Lorenz (Moorpark, Ca) leads the team with 3 HR's.
The team has a .302 batting average with a .997 fielding average.

The Gator pitchers have been outstanding, as usual.
Sr Gourley 5-1, 0.89 ERA and has already thrown 2 1-hitters.
Jr Ocasio 2-0, 1.24 ERA
So Barnhill 4-0, 0.23 ERA ~ is on a 27 'scoreless inning' streak, (smokin')....
Fr Chronister 1-0, 0.88 ERA.
The 12-1 Gator Team ERA is 0.72

#2 Florida takes another series vs Mi-Am-I with consecutive 8 1/2 inning SHUT-OUTS!
Nice cake, hope they get some Sweep Sunday icing for that cake.... :D

Friday - #2 UF/Faedo-Rubio 1 - 0 Mia #17

Saturday - #2 UF/Singer-Horvath 2 - 0 Mia #17
~ Kolozsvary and India had solo HR's.''

Starters Faedo/Singer have combined for 0 R, 7 H, 19 SO, 4 BB in 16 1/3 innings.

The Gator Winter/Spring sports have taken off with a bang Check out the other sports @ -- http://floridagators.com/

While the #3 14-1 Gator Softball team opened the Citrus Classic with a pair of Shut-Outs.
Soph Pitcher Kelly Barnhill extended her scoreless inning streak to 30.0 innings.

Pitching - ERA 0.58
(0.19 Barnhill So, 0.70 Chronister Fr, 0.75 Gourley Sr, 0.88 Ocasio Jr)

~~ IMOHO, the Gator's have the best combined Baseball-Softball Pitchers in the Nation.

Softball Team Leaders:
Batting Ave -- .486 Kvistad Jr - .474 Reynoso rsFr - .313 Hoover Fr - .306 Ocasio Jr

#2 Gator Baseball bounces back after Wed loss to UCF with a 7-0 win over Columbia.
On 79 pitches, Alex Faedo extended his scoreless inning streak to 15 2/3 innings.
Faedo is now 21-4 in his Gator career, which is a UF-record .840 winning percentage for a pitcher with at least 20 decisions.

#3 Gator Softball picks up wins over #23 Cal and #7 UCLA.
They are now 4-0 against Top 25 teams.
Soph Kelly Barnhill continued her scoreless inning streak to 41 innings.
She has given up only 1 early season run to then #6 Mich.

In the Judi Garman Classic in Calif, Janell Wheaton and Amanda Lorenz are both batting .714.

#3 Gator Lacrosse head north (Maryland) to play @ #16 Towson for the 1st time.
They beat Towson last season in G'ville 15-7.

#12 Gator Basketball takes on the nearly always chitty SEC officials @ VU to finish off their regular season schedule on Saturday.

#2 Gator Baseball sweeps Columbia 3-0.

#2 Gator Softball goes 5-0 in their trip to Calif.

#3 Gator Lacrosse beats #17 Towson in 32 degree Maryland.

#3 Gator Gymnastics loses to #2 LSU,,, ah well...

Why bother to follow Gator Lacrosse with coach Amanda O'Leary (114-29~.797 at UF)?

They began the 2017 season with a loss to #1 NC, the defending 2016 National Champions. Since then, they have 6 consecutive wins, 4 of them are over Top 16 Ranked teams. ~ #3 USC, #5 Syracuse, #7 Stony Brook, and #16 Towson.~

Now they begin Big East play as the B-2-B Big East Champs vs UConn.
This is just the 8th season for Gator Lacrosse, and they have been their conference champs 6 of the first 7 seasons, 4 ALC, 2 Big East. After their inaugural season, they have been their Conf. champs every year (6).

I believe that Gator Women's Lacrosse is the most successful new program in UF sports history.

If interested you can learn more at: http://floridagators.com/documents/2017/2/4//2017_Media_Guide.pdf?id=16386

Why bother?

Because some people do, indeed, have lives.
(lives that they waste while pursuing their diabolical schemes)

Why bother --- when neither their mommies nor their delusional/invisible girlfriends ever played Lacrosse, so there's a total lack of interest....

The Gator Lacrosse team played the U.S. National Team in exhibition, UF 19 - 20 U.S

They also played the Scotland National Team in exhibition,
UF 27 - 1 Scotland Natl.

#4 Florida opened the season with a 10 - 13 loss to preseason No. 1 North Carolina, the 2016 defending National Champion. Since then, the Gators have won 8 games in a row, including wins over:
UF 15 - 10 #3 Southern California (-5)
UF 19 - 12 #5 Syracuse (-7)
UF 22 - 14 #7 Stony Brook (-8)

IWLCA National Player of the Week:

March 22 - Gator Lindsey Ronbek

March 29 - Gator Mollie Stevens
Her performance also gave her BIG EAST Attacker of the Week honors for the 3rd time this season.

Even with those 2 players, the Gator still lost 8 - 18 at College Park to #1 undefeated 10-0 Maryland on Wed. I don't know if it was the home field officials, of if Maryland is just that good, but the foul calls were a much wider spread than the score was....

UF's Season free positions: UF 72 -- 66 Opp (48%)

VS Maryland free positions: UF 5 -- 14 Maryland (74%)

Maryland obviously has a great team, this year and every year, but I'm betting that the Gators would do a bit better against them on a more neutral field....

* The Maryland program has won 13 NCAA championships in their 41 years of existence, (2 of the last 3) the most of any women's lacrosse program, so the loss was not unexpected on Maryland's home field.

They are a bit like NCa's women's soccer team....

Women's lacrosse is a fun sport to watch and it's a shame more of the games are not on TV or even on WatchESPN. It's amazing how consistently good Coach O'Leary's teams have been almost from the get go. The softball team is excellent and now that the bats have come around to go with the best pitching staff in the country as well as the best defense, they can not only win the SEC but make a run at a national title. Baseball team is still struggling mightily at the plate and the bullpen has been very inconsistent. On top of that Guthrie & Lamngworthy are hurt. I'm hoping they'll get it going and peak at the end of the season and make another run to Omaha. They definitely have the talent.

if they did decide to put us on tv it would be a perfect road atmosphere for the public to enjoy watching us get ref'd... The usual

They definitely have the talent.

Yep, but they are a bit lean on experienced depth for now. A lot left after last season, with about a dozen of so FNG's coming in. By the end of the season, the baseballers should be coming up to speed, so another trip to Omaha is likely imo. Go Gators...

Baseball team finished a sweep of Missouri today: 4-3, 2-1, 2-1. They are 20-9, 5-4 in the SEC. Not only is the team dealing with weak bats (.240 team average, last in the SEC), but they've got key guys hurt - Guthrie hasn't played SS in 2+ weeks and was ineffective as a DH so now he's sitting; India hasn't been able to play in the field due to a forearm injury and was doing OK as DH, but got hit on the hand/wrist today; and freshman Langworthy, who got off to such a hot start with the bat, as has been out of the lineup for 3 weeks or so. Their pitching and defense lead the SEC, but it would be nice if they got all their players back and the guys started hitting at the end of the season going into the NCAA's instead of peaking too early. At least that's what I'm hoping.

The University of Florida women's #3 Lacrosse team (12-2, 6-0 Big East) downed the visiting Villanova Wildcats (3-10, 1-5) on Wednesday afternoon, 19-9. The victory marked Florida's sixth of at least 10 goals, including its fourth in a row.

The Gators will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to challenge BIG EAST newcomer Butler for the first time on April 15.

#3 Gator Softball Team Top 10's:

1. Team ERA 0.70

1. Fielding % 0.986

2. W/L % 0.950

5. On Base % 0.443

Kelly Barnhill is the nation's leader with a 0.22 ERA but Delanie Gourley (0.79 – 8th) & Aleshia Ocasio (0.84 – 10th) both rank inside the top 10. Florida is the only school in the country to have 3 pitchers ranked inside the Top 10 in ERA. Arizona is the only other school to have multiple pitchers (2) in the Top 10.

#3 Gator Lacrosse Team: Explosive Offense
Florida's offense has put together one of its most successful campaigns in 2017.

3. Scoring Offense 16.64

3. Points/Game 23.86

9. Assists/Game 7.21

All of those marks are on pace to be Florida's highest in a single season.
* UF has the only team in the nation to have 3 players with at least 53 points.
** The 6-0 Gators are working towards a 3-Peat as the Big East Champs.

Been watching this whole gymnastics final somehow, Gator girl finally got a ten she shoulda already had one... Any sport with judges for something imperfect like this is totally moronic to me, they already gave OU the championship apparently and we are fighting with LSU for 2nd... The way they decide this is such a crapshoot and bullshit, it's like having the elite 8 of the tournament all in two nights and whoever does the best the final night wins the whole thing with your ENTIRE season on the line? With judges that don't know and what even qualifies them to be judges? The Gator fans are pissed and telling the judges they suck according to pat dooley lol... What a stupid way to decide a champion, it all comes down to one meet on one night lol, ok...

Basically having an elite 8 and whoever blows out their opponent by the most points in one night is the NCAA champ, retarded...

Kelley Barnhill beat Kentucky today 2-0, throwing a no-hitter and striking out 15. She beat them Friday night 4-0, striking out 15 then as well. She was, also, the winning pitcher in the midweek 1-0 victory over FSU. Barnhill, a sophomore, is the reigning SEC pitcher of the week and probably should get the award again. Gators are 40-3 overall, 15-2 in the SEC with series left against Ole Miss at home next weekend and then finishing up at Tennessee. Texas A&M is the closest to us in the standings, but they have 9 conference games left after today, 3 each against Georgia, Kentucky & Tennessee.

Gymnastics is Gymnastics,,, and no Gators minded it when they repeatedly gave the NC to the Gators. Besides, they can't give it to the Gators every single year.... ;)

BTW, Gator Lacrosse is now ranked #2 in the Nation, #1 Big East.

Yep, how much did this last one cost your guys? I know that the officials don't come cheap, even in the lesser sports. But tell me, can't your guys come up with enough money to buy 'Big Game Bob' a big win in Football, or even in B-Ball anymore?

Looks like women's gymnastics is about all that your swooners can compete in now days...

PS -- And you should know by now that it's a very rare Gator fan that will ever G-a-S about what happens in the dust-bowl.

Gator Softball (40-3) jumped back to the No. 1 spot in both the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll after the team went 4-1 on the week with Top 25 wins over Georgia, Florida State and two versus Kentucky. The Gators have ranked inside the Top 5 of both major polls every week since the 2014 season.

Sophomore Kelly Barnhill earned the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Pitcher of the Week award, USA Softball Co-Player of the Week Award and SEC Pitcher of the Week. It was Barnhill's third SEC Pitcher of the Week award this season, which is the most in one season by any Florida pitcher.

Following an undefeated week with wins over Villanova (19-9) and Butler (22-2), the UF Women's Lacrosse team has moved to No. 2 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, as announced by the IWLCA on Monday.

The Gator LB corp is doomed for 2017 because 3 of their Top 4 returning LB's were only 3 star rated coming out of HS. The other, rsFr Jeremiah Moon was barely a 4 star and he had to take a redshirt in 2016.

HOWEVER: “I think from a talent standpoint, Jarrad Davis is an NFL first-round player. From an intangibles standpoint, he’s top 5 in the class,” Todd McShay said. “I mean, he’s a player that loves the game. You can see the passion and just energy he has for the game when you study him on tape.” And since Davis was also only a 3 star coming out of HS, so maybe there's some hope for them after all.... Mel Kiper also has Davis in the NFL 1st Rnd.
