2023 Baseball & Softball Thread

I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that if Jac were Just a pitcher or just a hitter going into his Jr year he’d be in the No 1 pick discussion for either.

Vandy beat arky so I believe we tie for regular season sec title. Great accomplishment.
That is true. It took Georgia beating LSU as well for that to happen. In the SEC standings Florida & Arkansas finish 20-10, LSU 19-10.

Vandy was down like 8-2 in the sixth inning last night and came back to win. Pretty great weekend for UF!

Aside from LSU pitcher Skenes, the rest of their rotation is meh but they hit the living sheeit out of the ball.

UF Softball worst season of the Tim Walton era, no matter how they try to spin it. Lots of changes needed to the program.

Pitching was awful and we could not hit when faced with top pitching. Great recruiting class coming in next season, but he will need to hit the portal. No panic, just one year removed from CWS.

We had 20 players on this team's roster. Most teams have more than that, some as many as 24-26. 8 of that 20 are leaving due to graduation and with the 6 incoming freshmen, that puts the roster at 18. My guess is that a few of our girls will hit the transfer portal, so Coach Walton has plenty of room to hit the transfer portal hard to bring in some SEC-quality players. With only Lexie Delbrey and Olivia Gigante returning as pitchers to go with the 2 highly touted freshmen, he needs to find another pitcher or two with experience who can compete in the SEC. Plus an additional position player or two. He has a lot of work to do to get this team back to an elite level including, I think, a change in assistant coaches.

The return of the pitching coach to OK (Rocha) was a real kick in the nutts for coach Walton....

I agree with the pitcher room needing a boost, and maybe getting a better pitching coach. I hope that those 2 Fr pitchers coming in are a big part of the solution....
(Haeger/Barnhill quality)

Agree. On another board somebody mentioned that UF's Rylee Trlicek and FSU's Kathryn Sandercock were on the same USA National team coming out of high school. Neither was the ace, but Sandercock hardly saw the circle, while Trlicek got significant pitching time. Fast forward now and see which pitcher improved the most from their time at their respective schools. Sandercock is a 2-year All American who just threw a perfect game to get her team to the Supers and Rylee, while a great kid, gives it her all, etc., is pretty much the same pitcher who threw for the Gators as a freshman. Lack of player development, especially with our pitchers, has been a major problem since Jen Rocha left for a significant pay raise to go back to Oklahoma.

I would love to hear the argument for crews over Cags. It’s not even close. Just on hitting Cags wins it. Crews plays a good centerfield but Cags was a freaking weekend starter on a team that won the SEC! How many Sunday starters went 6-3?

These guys all voted a month ago when LSU was supposed to be the best team in the country. Most of the votes were probably in before Cags pitched the Gators to the SEC title. Lazy and embarrassing.

Hopefully cags gets pissed and goes on a kill crazy rampage for the next month.

Wonder how we’ll handle pitching in the SECT? I expect like midweek games. Be interesting to see if Sully tries to get some guys some work.

My guess is that he'll start Ryan Slater tonight against Alabama. Then maybe back to his regular weekend rotation after that. While they want to win, he's not going to overtax his pitchers and wants them rested for Regionals next week. I expect to see B.T. Riopelle not catching every game in the SECT for the same reason.

Yeah not really sure that doing good or doing poor at the SECT is going to affect our national seed too much. I think we’ve proven through our schedule that we are a national seed for sure if not even top 4 no matter what.

Their infield defense is crazy. They’ve made outs for the most part but they make every ground ball an adventure.
