2023 Baseball & Softball Thread

I did see a thread on the FSU board that the overall record is 130-125 for FSU and that the "one-time unreachable record" is in danger.

Over the last few years they seem especially resigned to becoming the lesser baseball program. Of course most of them wont outright say that, but you can read between the lines.

Imo, that shift in mentality started after UF won a championship.

Just 4 more wins evens the series.
I also felt the same way about the Florida Georgia football series as the Dwags once had a 20 game series advantage and felt UF will never come close to becoming even with their program. Of course Spurrier, Zook and Meyer changed all that for a while. Even Butters has winning record vs the Dwags.

Big series for BB on the road. Pretty much a must win series for aTm. They played arky pretty tough but got swept on the road last week.

Close to a must win series for us if we want to be a top 8 seed. Figure we probably need 6 wins out of 9 to be a national seed.

I agree. 20 conference wins in arguably the best baseball conference should get us a top 8.

SEC has won 5 of the last 7 baseball nattys. 4 different schools. Now that's impressive.
SEC is on a different level. You can make a pretty good argument right now that 5 of the 8 national seeds should come from the SEC.

It’s a close call if SEC baseball is more dominant than SEC football. I’d be interested to see how the players drafted in the first round compares.

If you’re a baseball fan or a Gator fan and you don’t watch SEC baseball, you are missing out!

They really really really could benefit with a sweep this weekend.

Next week its vs vandy and after that its @uk.

If UF got the sweep. They only need 1 win vs vandy and 2 @ UK and still get a top seed.

Man you can just write it down. Somewhere from innings 5-7, we’re going to go 4/6batters without throwing a strike and we’ll throw in one kick job in the infield. Unreal.

Nice play to end the inning. You can see sully is not messing around with these pitchers. 1 walk, you’re out.

Softball blows a late lead and loses. Baseball gets run-ruled. Bad day for Diamond Gators.
Gator pitching had 6 walks and 1 hit batter in first 4 innings. Ouch.

Yeah - Lexie Delbrey just isn't the same pitcher that she was last year. They were counting her being an elite ace and it hasn't worked out. Trlicek held KY down to allow the Gators to come back, tie the game and then take the lead going to the bottom of the 7th. Hightower, who had pitched great Friday night, was brought in to close the game and she blew it.

Softball gets great pitching today and still loses 1-0. This years team is the pure definition of frustration. Curious to see how the respond in post season.

We have the #1 recruiting class in the nation coming in, with 6 signees including 3 of the top 5 players according to most services. 2 of them are big time pitchers, another is a quality catcher, 2 middle infielders and an outfielder. They will all complete for starting jobs, IMO, but Walton needs to hit the portal and bring in a really good, experienced pitcher and another position player or two in case some of these freshmen aren't ready for prime time. He, also, needs to evaluate the jobs his 2 paid assistants are doing and will, hopefully, bring in a new pitching coach because pitching the last few years has not been up to Gator standards. It will be, also interesting to see if any of the ladies we do have coming back choose to hit the transfer portal. We lose Hightower, Echols, Egan, Trlicek, Longley, plus 3 who seldom played (Bender, K. Goelz & Thomas) to graduation. I expect a couple of the others to transfer out, so it will be a critical and interesting off season for Coach Walton and Gator softball fans.

Being a little too hard on the baseball team IMO. Still have a great chance to be a top 8 national seed. It’s baseball. You don’t win them all. Pitching probably isn’t good enough to win it all however.
The hitting really slumped for the first time all year this weekend. Not a good time for the bats to cool off, with only 2 weekends left in the regular season.

Baseball team has had a great season. We’re right there to be a national seed. We obviously have the talent to win it. This team just has a tendency to lose composure. Bullpen loses the strike a one or starts hitting people, infield will kick it around, walk off ball, etc…

Nice win by Vandy last night in extra innings. They had a bunch of mid week bullpen arms with like 8.00 eras come in and throw strikes and shut the door late. We need our pen to do the same in late and close spots.

UF softball gets knocked out of the SEC tournament, losing to Tennessee 4-0. They will see Sunday where they are sent for Regional play. Many are speculating Tallahassee. It'll be the first time Florida hasn't hosted a Regional since Tim Walton arrived in Gainesville.

Should we, as you mentioned, end up in Tally I think we end up no better than 2nd place. Beating FSU this year is not easy, beating them twice will be a challenging chore....jim

2nd place in a regional means, of course, that our season is over. With the lack of pitching I don't think we win a regional no matter where we go.
