2023 Baseball & Softball Thread

We’ve been squeezed on at least 5 third strikes and they called a foul tip on a ball the guy missed by 2 feet.

Yeah all we need are baserunners. Doesn’t matter how they get on. 2/3 of the guys in this lineup can do serious damage so just have guys on base. Vandy pitched good though.

Gators getting pummeled. Hard to be a solid SEC teams 5 times in 1 season. But a little dose of humility before the start of the NCAA tournament might be a good thing.

Yeah everybody got some work. Got the bats going a little bit. Still a ways to go in this one if we can start putting up some zeroes.

If I remember right in 2017 we got blasted by Arkansas in the SECT 16-0 in the semifinals and went on to win the national championship.

A dude runs a Vandy page on Twitter and he's acting like a 13 year old troll.

Just goes to show you that even schools like vandy, who garner sympathy, has fans that make you hope they never have much success in the future.

Couple of bad innings. Going for 5 in a row against a top 10 team no easy task. Glad to see the bats going today.

The bottom 3 in our batting order are giving us nothing. That has to change if we're going to make a real run to Omaha.

I think those guys kind of are what they are. Would be nice to see them have productive bats at least. See some pitches, work a walk, move a runner. Shelnut can lengthen the lineup, but he hasn’t hit in a while. Robertson and Evans just aren’t going to do much at bat.

Uconn and Texas Tech tough draws. Looking at these regionals some of the 16 seeds got their ticket already punched to supers.

UConn was ranked in the top 10 like two weeks ago. If they won their tourney they probably would have hosted. TCU won the Big 12 tourney.

Uconn slipped some the last 2 weeks, but they are definitely good. You are right about TCU, but we aren't playing them, we have Texas Tech in our regional.

Neither UConn nor Texas Tech finished in the Top 25 of D1 Baseball's last rankings. In Warren Nolan's ELO rankings, which many think is the most accurate gauge of a team's strength, combining RPI, SOS and statistical analysis, Florida is #2, Texas Tech #33 & UConn #38. UConn is #23 in RPI, #78 in SOS. They've only played 9 games against teams in the Top 50 and are 4-5 in those games. 36 of their 58 games have been against teams outside the Top 100. Even though they were ranked #9 in the D1 poll on May 1 with a 32-11 record, they still went 11-4 down the stretch, but their RPI was never high enough to be in serious consideration to host, IMO. Texas Tech is #41 in RPI, #46 in SOS. They are 12-13 vs. Teams in the Top 50 and finished 6th in the 9 team Big 12. They were never going to host either. Not saying they both aren't good teams fully capable of beating Florida. Just saying that all regionals are competitive with teams capable of beating the host seeds.

I deleted my response because this argument is dumb.

Regardless Brad it's a tough region. Either Ucon or TT are very capable teams. We will need to play well to make it through. When I look at the 16 regions there are 2-3 that have much easier draws. But there are also 2-3 that have much tougher draws than us.

Yeah I was like researching RPIs and schedule strength and whatnot and was like what am I doing lol.

County is correct. It will be tough. It always is. Play a whole season and it can come down to one pitcher losing the zone for an inning.

That’s why I never criticize a losing trip to Omaha whether we’re favored to win, no 1 overall seed, whatever. Any trip to Omaha is a hugely successful season.

Seems a little on the risky side. Especially when you have basically two aces. I love cags but there’s probably a one in three chance he walks the ballpark. Plus you could burn a lot of your bullpen. Lose game one in these things and you are really in a tough spot.

Needs to be on a short leash. But if it works out then we are sitting pretty. Gators should be able to put up 8-10 runs against FAMU. On a positive front, you know quickly which Cags you are getting.
