2019 recruiting signing day thread

247Sports is showing Khris Bogle coming in for an official visit this weekend along with Diwun Black. Maybe Capt. Dan is going to introduce the new D-line coach to Bogle as a surprise to all of us. That would be hilarious!

It would be hilarious, but Dan has too much class to pull such a bush league move.

Andrew Spivey on Gator Country is saying he doesn't think we'll sign the 4 scholarships we have left. He says there will be some grad transfers available after the graduate in May/June and we may go after or more of them. No names. Even though Bogle is coming in this weekend, he says without a D-line coach he doesn't like our chances with him. He said Alabama is still there along with Miami & Tennessee for him. He thinks we're in pretty good shape with Elam, 50/50 with Auburn on Moore and about the same with Mark Antony-Richards. He sees no signing day surprises.

I have a feeling we will sign at least 3 even if one isn't a blue chipper. Just got to make sure we get Moore and Elam. I think Bogle is fool's gold for us but would love to be wrong on that.

2019 Recruiting Class, even if no other recruits sign on NSD:

1 QB - EE
1 RB
1 TE
7 OL,>>> 4 are EE's
3 WR
-----
3 CB >> 2 are EE's
1 Ath/FS/WR
1 DE
2 Ath/DE/LB
3 LB - 2 EE
1 DT
~ The 9 EE's are at the most needed positions.
~~ Only 2 remain unsigned.
-----

Another 2020 Class early offer from Dan:
LB Romello Height 6-4 210 - Dublin, GA
Reportedly excited by UF's offer.

Read this about a 2020 Alabama QB commit from Jax that Mullen is trying to poach:
https://www.gatorcountry.com/feature/beck-has-a-plan-for-his-upcoming-florida-gators-visit/

It's always good to have a backup plan in place for 2020. The QB room at UF is always about having solid competition to motivate improvement for everyone.

“They already have a QB committed for 2020 that they’ve talked super highly about as well,” Beck said of Florida already having a 2020 QB. “I don’t see that as a negative thing, I feel like wherever I go, I’m going to go in and compete, I’m not going to back down from anyone.” o_O

Sounds like he is ready for the Gator's end of 3rd quarter 'Tom Petty' theme song... :D

So, how did Dan do in just his 1st season as the Gator's HC?

Dan had the Nations most improved offense in points per game,
5th-most improved defense in points per game, 5th-most improved pass defense and 9th-most improved rushing offense. He took an unranked 4-7 team to a 10-3 record with a New Year's 6 Bowl beat down (41-15 #7 Mich) of the Yankee Meatchickens.

That's not just good, that's 'Dancing in the Streets' good over where we've been recently....

Even with Franks at QB, Florida’s passing efficiency and 3rd-down offense also saw massive jumps.

While Franks improved significantly, he still ranked 76th nationally in completion percentage last season at 58%. Franks still has some holes in his game, but if he can continue to improve, then more power to em.... o_O

And if not, then there are several backup plan candidates that 'won't back down...' :cool:

That's bout where I'm at right now. Seems like we have Elam after the Grey hiring (inhouse) and feels like we're pulling ahead for Moore, but that's still 50-50. I would think we sign 1 more as long as they are highly rated, although we'll find the scholly for 1-2 more if they are the right fit/person.

Bottom line - get Elam and Moore and it's a Top 10 class with 4 stars everywhere, filling gaps in the team...solid class. Anything more/less - we'll see.

Moore either has a sense of humor or just always talks up his visits after saying FSU offers the most academically.

I still think it's us 60/40 chance over Auburn.

lol I'm like a see-saw on these guys at the end of the cycle lol.

Elam looks wrapped up and Moore looks better in our favor as well. Auburn fans on 247 are going ape that they think they've lost him to us...could just be the normal ups n downs of internet chatter, who knows.

MAR - Miami's insiders are pushing him towards us after his visit to Coral Gables this weekend so that's great. AND - we had the #1 WR Pickens visit, with his parents this weekend...could be big.

Even Bogle looks like we have more of a chance with, although I'll believe that when I see it.

lol - one week later and I feel good again haha

EDIT - Pickens comes in this next weekend 2-2 with family.

Oh on the Moore kid - I think he's just amiable and wants to say good things on visits. I know ppl think it's a troll job but I don't get that sense. I think he's just enjoying the process and probably likes all the schools he's visiting with.

He doesn't feel like the Fuller kid.

So does David Turner being named the DL coach help or hurt us going in with anyone as of yet not signed? I've not been keeping up too much with this lately due to work, but from what I've gathered, we now have a complete coaching crew again (till some scrods come and try to poach Dan Mullens work again). Does this possibly make us lose out on someone we expect or possibly draw in a name here as we're coming down to the wire on the recruiting day finals?

It's now official, Mullen has hired David Turner as the 'New & Improved' DL coach. ;)

Over Turner's final 2 seasons in Starkville, Miss., the Bulldogs piled up over 180 TFL, including 68 QB sacks. In 2015, the Bulldogs set a school record with 98 TFL, while the 2014 unit produced 37 sacks, which ranked No. 2 in the SEC and were the 3rd-most in school history.

With the addition of defensive line coach David Turner, which was announced on Sunday afternoon, and new cornerbacks coach Torrian Gray, Mullen now has a coaching staff that has 100 years worth of combined coaching experience in the SEC. The core of Mullen's staff remains together, with only DL coach Sal Sunseri and CB coach Charlton Warren departing this offseason. Both were 1st-time hires for Mullen, hardly guys he should miss in terms of staff chemistry. :cool:

Turner wasn't a sexy pick - lots of internet chatter about other candidates that "should've" been grabbed up, lol as if it's just that easy.

However given a day or two to actually look at his resume he looks like a really solid hire by those smarter than me haha - most of the experts saying he's a recruiting upgrade while still be a very solid technique guy.

If two weeks ago you said we lose our DB and DL coaches. One of the newcomers being a definite upgrade and the other a slight upgrade...that's still very good especially not having much time for the cycle to end.

Black, ranked by 247Sports as the No. 45 overall prospect in the 2019 class, took an official visit to Florida with DE Khris Bogle, currently committed to Alabama, and the highly touted linebacker said the two had a “great” time at Florida.

BTW -- Bogle committed to the Crimson Tide at the All-American Bowl but that was before DC Tosh Lupoi left Tuscaloosa for the Cleveland Browns.

If we could land Elam, Moore & Bogle, plus maybe even Mark Antony-Richards and get Black & Henderson qualified, what a recruiting year that would be!!

Imagine if we get that OG in the transfer portal from GT - he is considered one of the best in the country going into 2019 and I think he is from Florida.

You Homer’s don’t actually think this happens do you? Elam is a dawg, Bogle is bama or Miami, and Moore is Auburn. But maybe you get the transfer from GT

DL Moore was originally committed to Mullen at MsSt, so he won't be interested in Mullen at UF... Currently it looks to be a UF / AU decision.
~ Mangy mutt logic at it's very brightest... :confused:

Ath M-A Richards -- “One was versatility, not just being a running back, but being able to be a slot receiver, kick returner, punt returner, running back,” Richards said in a previous interview of UF’s message. “I think that was something that also stuck out to me. That’s one of the reasons I find myself attracted to Florida a lot, along with a few other schools.”
~~ So he'll never consider the 'Harvin' roll with Dan at UF...
More mangy mutt logic...:rolleyes:

CB Elam's uncle (Matt) played at UF before moving on to the NFL. Now that CB coach Torrian Gray is back at UF with Dan, Elam will never even consider being a Gator, even though the majority of the Crystal Balls still expect it.
~~~ Mangy mutt logic, so you can always trust anything that they spew outta their yaps.... o_O
DE Bogle is a bit more iffy, but D.Black seems to be having an impact on him and if he's a Gator, his family won't have that far to drive to watch him play. (Fort Lauderdale, FL) He committed early to UA, but they have since lost their DC to the NFL, while Dan now has DL coach Truner back with him at UF.
~~~~ Currently it looks to be a UF / scUM decision for him. :cool:

The Gators could get all 4, or just 2-3, or none, so we'll all find out together on NSD...

Elam is a Gator. Even your coach's slimy move can't stop it. The other three, we will see. Feel pretty good about them all, though.

Remember Elam is only a 4* player so Kirby's bribe will not exceed 100,000$ for his services. Kirby may be scum, but he's scum with principles.

If the GT transfer can play right away, he's actually the most important one. I think our line will be fine next year, but it would be foolish not to think this guy would be a better choice than possibly a true freshman.

He is ranked one of the top 2 returning guards in the whole country I think. This would be a huge pickup with our O line situation. None of our current guards could beat this guy out in 2019.

Fever,

Deal for ya!

If we get 3 of Elam, Moore, Bogle and MAR you are no longer allowed to post negativity about recruiting until the Feb NSD each year

If we get all 4, you change your name to ‘MullenRecruitingMaster’

I will take this bet. "If we get all 4, you change your name to ‘MullenRecruitingMaster’ for 60 days with that name.

As far as 3 of those 4 you will have to be willing to bet a little yourself but we can make the bet where neither of us lose if he gets 2 of them. Say something like a name bet for a period of time where if he only landed one of them you get a name change but if he landed three of them I get the name change.

A chart showing the top available players but some like Bogle are not included on this list since they have verbals.

I would toss some teams out as possibilities for our 3 targets there. I highly doubt Moore would choose FSU. I think us and Georgia are the only possibilities for Elam and I highly doubt Richards would end up at Georgia or Penn State.

Fevered brain, you've already lost so badly (quality recruiting ends in Aug) that you should never again post anything about Dan's recruiting until at least after NSD's. o_O

JMOHO

MAR is 50/50 UF / Mia
Rivals100 playmaker Richards ranks Gators' in-home '9.5' out of 10 ;)

Moore is 50/50 UF / AU

Bogle is 60/40 Mia / UF
I think that losing their DC might have killed UA's chances with Bogle, even though he has yet to de-commit from them officially.
=====

The Gators were successful last year in Dan Mullen’s first as the head coach at Florida, by bringing in DT Adam Shuler. Shuler ended up starting most of the season on the interior of the line and is expected to start again in 2019.

So far, the Gators have landed one grad transfer that is immediately eligible in Louisville grad-transfer DE Jonathan Greenard (UL got OG/C McCoy in return) and are going to get a visit from another top priority prospect this weekend in Georgia Tech grad-transfer OG Parker Braun. Braun would also be eligible to play right away.

Braun was a True Freshman All-American and First Team All-ACC as both a sophomore and junior at Georgia Tech. Braun is currently the No. 7 prospect in the 247Sports Transfer Portal Rankings. -------------- August :rolleyes:

I don't have access to any of the paysite stuff but Auburn fans all at once seem more worried that LSU could get Moore than us now and have been pretty confident that they were going to get Moore for a while now. If he doesn't sign with us hopefully we get a slight surprise with MAR but Auburn fans seem to be convinced they are going to land him also.

As of right now Moore is going to Auburn. Closer to home and Auburn has his good friend Handy going there.

That's what I'm reading as well - Elam is ours, Moore most likely moving on although apparently we have a good shot at Bogle (we'll see). Looks like MAR is coming to G-ville.

I'm a bit more sober than this time last week but it looks like Elam, MAR - the Greenard and Braun transfers and them maybe one more if Mullen pulls a Henderson type flip.

Should end up 7-8 not counting the 2 transfers which is a really good class...not elite but more than I personally expected.

If we end up with the above I think you have to give Mullen credit in filling out the roster with really good talent.
