Who gets fired first?

Sounds like Will Muschamp

It does, doesn't it? I think Pruitt is a marginally better recruiter and DC, Muschamp is a marginally better HC.

The reality is, both should have stayed as college DC. They both could coach another 15-20 years, both would retire with another 5 or so NC rings. Instead, both will try to eek out careers at head coaching positions they aren't qualified for, both will likely have to dip back down into the DC ranks to 'rehabilitate' their careers, and eventually get fired and hang it up.

I dunno, it seems like going down as one of the better DCs in the history of the college game is a better legacy than retiring as a barely .500 head coach, but that's just me.

Muschamp will be fine. What he has done to UF and USCjr has been basically criminal with all the money he has been paid by those 2 schools. His buyouts alone are insanse. I can’t believe even USCjr just gave him a large contract extension. For what?

Yes, please someone hire Coach Pornstache as your HBC. Are you serious?

As the DC if Grantham leaves in 2020 you moron, not as the HC. Take your head outta your butt before spouting off with your usual clueless drivel, or better yet, just STFU for a change.

I didn't notice any porn arrests in his bio, or is that just more nuttlicker bs like the 3rd and Grantham sniveling that you morons continue to do? (rhetorical)

He's a top 5 DC and top 5 recruiter all day. The problem will always be how long can you keep him? The reality is that if he goes to a top program, he will get head coaching offers in a couple of years. Too many desperate programs out there that will be willing to roll the dice no matter what your history is.

After he fails I don’t see any head coach offers coming his way for a while. For one he’s not likable like a lot of other coaches to where he’ll con his way into another job. And you’ve kinda made mention of it but he doesn’t get along with really anybody anywhere he goes for too long. He’s not a good face for a school. He’s meant to be a coordinator.

I reaaaaally hate to stir up this hornet's nest, or love nest some of you have going on, but what on god's green earth makes you think Pruitt is a good DC in ANY way? All he's ever done is coach at schools where he largely held an overwhelming talent advantage over his competition. It's pretty easy to have a great defensive showing when you're Alabama and you're beating up on Louisiana Tech.

Muschamp had a good agent who negotiated excellent contracts for him at UF & USC. He is what he is, but is getting paid extremely well for it.

I agree. I’d like to know the answer to this question as well. When has he done “more with less”. All he’s ever done is coach defenses that were already loaded with talent.

Shouldn't that be commensurate with the competition? If he's got inferior talent, then wouldn't we expect he's at a lower-tier school and therefore playing equal competition (and should rise to the top ranks of that level?) Or are folks expecting for him to take a Temple defense and make it competitive vs a P5 school. I guess I'm confused that a DC is making talent work to his advantage. FSU has had its share of DCs wasting talent, so I'd love to have a coach who knew what to do with it. I certainly don't want a bunch of scrubs.

By that argument, Lane Kiffin should have never been able to get a job as an OC at Alabama. He did so, and his offenses there were far better than any other offenses he has coached. That man got to where he is today riding the coat tails of Monte Kiffin and teams that wanted Monte for his defensive skills were willing to be saddled with Lane as well at the time.

I gotta say this though, the fans at Ole Miss sure do have some LOOOOOW expectations for their football program if Matt Luke isn't at the top of this list if he can't turn something around this year drastically.

It’s going to be close between Pruitt and Taggart. I’m not sure Pruitt makes it through the year

Schools get weird after major sanctions. They say things like "he's running a clean program" and "the players are showing better academic progress". It will take a couple years for the alumni to forget all the trouble they got in, lose patience, and kick the administration in the ass and tell them to go win some damn games.

Muschamp was an elite DC by 2009 standards. The game has changed since the “Defense Wins Championships” era. Rule changes shifted the balance of the game in favor of the offense.

He and South Carolina are a perfect fit for each other: a middling coach at a mid-level program. I’m honestly happy for him.

Did you ever think you'd see a Will Muschamp team score 70+ points in a game though? I don't believe he scored 70 points the entire damn season with us one of those years.

I have to think his OC begged to be allowed to call the game without input from the head coach. I mean it's Charleston Southern, even Muschamp would be able to see that they were going to win no matter what, so he might just agree.

One thing is for sure, Taggart is turning fsu around.
