TREON!!!!!!!

Of course Harbaugh is a good coach but I do find it amusing that all the yapping about him and how they hire him and we got our guy and Michigan goes out and losses their first game. Not to mention Michigan is his alma mater. It wasn't that hard of a sell for Michigan to hire him. You think we had to do a lot of convincing to Spurrier to coach UF??

Michigan's chances of winning that game weren't very good regardless of who was coaching. Their starting QB is a guy who got ran out of Iowa, they have no talent on that team. Circumstances matter too, if we played Utah to open up our season on the road chances are we'd be starting off 0-1 too, just saying. They played a pretty good team away rather than a cupcake at home like 90% of schools are doing.

That said, I agree Michigan being his alma mater made it an easier sell, but it's not the be all end all. He turned them down once before also. Plus I don't think Michi has ever said we had a realistic shot at Harbaugh IIRC. His stance was always that we should at a minimum make him say no and considering he's one of the best coaches in the game college or pro, that's not even remotely unreasonable. Worst case scenario he tells you no which you're expecting anyway. Best case scenario he shocks everyone and says yes.

I just hope to God our QB's don't look like what I watched last night. I can't handle that anymore

On topic.

If Treon truly IS the best we have, it's going to be a sickeningly long season.

You guys know that, right?

Well rumors were Summers told people on a fishing trip after the Spring that they need to find a QB and said it in a way that seem to imply those 2 weren't measuring up. He supposedly added that on when asked about the O line.

I have never once gotten the impression Mac is high on either of our QBs. So this actually sounds very believable

No QB worries mates,,, cause we can always fall back to Mc's dog if necessary. :D

In the end, all of this 'noise in the system' QB stuff, will be 'much-ta-do' about nothing. One of the 7 QB's currently on roster just needs to be 'serviceable' at the position, not extraordinary...

(but I still believe that at least 1 of them will end up being EXTRAORDINARY!) ;)

I'm one of those that believe if Grier isn't better than Harris and doesn't win the starting job by the beginning of SEC play than we are probably in more trouble than I had hoped. Here's to Harris proving me wrong. I like Harris but is throwing accuracy is/was a big concern of mine. Did that improve and if so by how much?

If neither of these guys is servicable, I am afraid Mac will never make it.

We will be fine with either QB. It's about the oline and the skill we surround them with. Treon's accuracy was his strong suit coming in. If you account for drops, his accuracy issues aren't really what people make them out to be.

I agree with oozie...if the OLine improves and just by the numbers and experience we should be much better as we play more then the QB play will be better. Defense will keep us in a lot of games unless we just turn it over a bunch.

C'mon, Oozie get real. With Mac & our Defense, the Gators would not lose to freaking Utah. Utah will barely be .500 this year.

And our offense? They have two defensive lineman projected as top 50 players in next years draft and another linebacker Paul who is one of the best in the country. I doubt we'd have moved the ball that much considering the state of our oline and it being the first game on the road in a new system.

Paco, I'm for playing as many on game days as possible, while still winning the games of course.

2 QB's, 3-4 RB's, 2-3 TE's, 5-8 WR's, and rotate the OL as much as possible.

I absolutely love the way Collins has formed the defense. No strings and no set in concrete positions.
Cross train them as far as possible and play everyone that's 'above the line' on game days.

I think UF is better than Utah. Our defense is much better than Michigan's. I think our offrnse is better than Michigan's as well.

That would be the only way. Grier is better at everything but running, but he can even do that too.

I think Treon throws a more catchable ball.
The guy who throws the most 'catchable' ball is the guy who throws it the most accurately and on time. I agree Treon throws a nice ball but Grier is on another level. We'll see how they both play against much better competition but I'm a little surprised how good Grier looked.

Grier throws the ball where it needs to be thrown and doesn't take 5 seconds too long to do it.

How many of you on this thread are old enough to remember the details of 2000 season?

Jesse Palmer never really played bad in the MTSU game. It was a blowout from opening kickoff. He really didn't make any mistakes other than hitting the safe passes when the deep passes were available. Spurs pulled Palmer early and inserted Rex Grossman. Rex looked better than JP in this particular game but many wrote that off as being a cupcake opponent. The next week JP had one of my most favorite drives ever when he took the Gators 92 yards downfield to hit Jabar Gaffney for the go ahead controversy TD reception. Later on that season during the Miss State debacle Rex played better in the loss. Throughout that year both QB's played in games. JP really never played bad. However Rex shined in nearly every game and just had that "it" factor. He made magic happen.

From this first game of watching Grier, he reminds me of Rex...but a faster version. He just seems to make the big plays happen. Teron did not play bad but from the one game evaluation it just seems Will can make bigger plays. Neither seem bad. It will be interesting to watch which one steps up more and can handle the pressure.

Many thought in 2000 that Palmer should get the nod due to experience. However the Rex legacy started this particular season.

Nope, not me... ;)

I think we all were.

I thought that Grier would be GREAT all along!
Now, if he can just stay that way... o_O

Grier - 16 of 18 (with a drop) - 88.9% (94.4%). Plus 4-43 yds, 10.75 ypc, 1 TD.
My only surprise was that he played even better (super) than I expected him to play (great). o_O

I remember. Great comparison

I was just talking about that game in 2000 to my dad while we were watching the replay, I said that first TD pass to the TE reminds me of Rexs first TD at UF in that MTSU game. I remember that game very well, I also remember Todd Johnson running back a fumble like 60+ yards for a TD and Alex Brown almost killing a guy. Lito might have run a punt back in the game too.

Grier is like Grossman and shot puts it a bit like Danny. His PA fakes and when he sets his feet though really do make him look like rex slinging it off the hip. Although I doubt Grier is as good at hitting those corner routes off the PA like Grossman was. Those are the two he hit for TD's to Jabar in the MSU game that same year when Palmer was benched.

Been making the (it's too early but there are flashes of) Rex comparison since Saturday too.

You really got that from those big cushions our WRs were getting in that game? He may end up being real good but that game certainly doesn't tell us much imo.

Gator fever, that game tells me more than I have seen in 4 years.

In one game he already looks better than any Gator QB I have seen in that time frame with MAYBE the exception being Harris. Looks better than Brantly, Jacoby, Driskel, Murphy, and Skyler ever thought about being.

I remember being at that game, I was in a convo with the guy sitting behind me. We both that night predicted that Jabar and Rex would be special. At that time all of the hype was surrounded around Brock Berlin. He was very similar in style to Jesse. Rex brought extra flavor.

Wasn't it Alex Willis who started early that season at WR. Like Palmer, he.did nothing wrong to lose his job, it was just Gaffney was better.

I have a feeling not only will we see Grier take over but a young WR will be one of the go to guys over some of these upperclassmen

The last I remember of Alex Willis is him catching a first down on a trick play the next week.

Last I remember of Alex Willis was he made a first down on JP's memorial 92 yard drive against UT.

Haugabrook was Spurrier's version of Meyer's David Nelson. He had that "who was that?" Or "where has he been?" Effect showing up in big games.
