Not sure what to take from this game so far except our run blocking and rushing attack is still pretty bad just like in the earlier games.

I am glad Auburn doesn't have a high powered offense because I doubt we score too much with no effective running game.

Most power 5 schools w first and goal on the 5 against a 1-aa team lineup in a power set and run the ball down their throat. Not this Oline.

Crazy considering how good the O line run blocked last year but you could see issues big time in the Spring game that these O linemen weren't that good at getting to the 2nd level to create big runs.

Running game is bad and it isn’t going to get better. You can’t make chicken salad out of chicken shit. Oline nor RBs are good enough. That can’t be fixed overnight unfortunately.

Pitts is a beast and Trask throws a nice pass but has to get rid of the ball sooner. We need CJ Henderson back too.

Based on what I’ve seen across college football it appears to be Bama any everybody else.

Pierce is a much better runner than Perine. I get that Perine is likely a better blocker and receiver but Pierce just tots the rock much better.

Trey Dean couldn’t cover my grandmother. He’s terrible in pass coverage.

Crazy? We ended up replacing basically the entire offensive line.

But yeah, crazy that it's different than last year.

Ummm how is it crazy?? We knew that was a possible concern coming into the season. You act like we are surprised??

The thing with the offensive line is that it isn’t like they’re getting physically manhandled they’re just missing a shitload of assignments. A lot of those runs somebody just comes completely clean while you see a lineman with his head turned somewhere else blocking air. That shit is inexcusable. They’d be better off getting beat up because at least then they’d be in the way.

Exactly. It’s as if they just show up for games on Saturdays, almost like they literally never go to practice during the week. They’re really bad.

We’ll know everything we need to know after next week. They’re not gonna do much against that Auburn defensive line but at least if they stop making mental mistakes we should do enough to put together some decent drives.

I think we need to find a way to utilize Emory next week against Auburn. He can help our run game.
It does seem like the running backs pick up more yardage when Emory ia in the game.

Some of this could be atbritued to depth or tired opposing defenses but regardless we gain more rushing yards.

Hopefully Mullen pulls out a bag of tricks.

Because Emory is a threat to run. It opens up the entire offense. The defense has to account for the QB.

Only one is young and all had experience with this staff. No excuse to be this bad at run blocking.
We knew going into the season this could be a problem. Not sure why you are shocked. Well sorry. Yes I do know why your shocked.

True but going into this season who thought our O Line was going to be better than last year? Not saying that you did/do but it's about what I expected with what Mac left. We need depth, experience and very little injuries. I'm a little surprised with Perine's production but there isn't any where to run either. 9 wins on the season is great job by this staff IMO.

We can beat Auburn but we need to play well.

I guess it isn't shocking to some we can't line up and run it down the middle with our RBs on FCS teams that other FCS teams did that with no problem let alone not being able to run worth a damn on FBS teams so far.

For most of the game, Towson had 7-8 in the box.

Later in the 2nd half....
RB D.Pierce 6 for 84 yds, 14.0 ypc 1 TD, (L-31 & L-34)

No to me it isn’t shocking. I knew the oline would likely be a problem. It is a problem. Not surprised one bit. They are actually pass blocking a little better than I thought and run blocking a little worse. I do think a little bit of it is on the RBs as well.

It definitely isn’t just on the offensive line even though everybody wants to keep blaming them. They’ve only given up 8 sacks in 5 games which is really good and if you actually go back and watch the games a few of those sacks have been on the QB so they’re doing a damn good job pass protecting.

in the run we’ve had backs namely Perine miss all type of holes or get tripped up by by arm tackles, we’ve had cases where we’ve run from condensed formations asking them to block 8 or 9 which is dumb, and yes at times they’ve missed assignments too. They need to get better but they’re not as bad as people are making it out to be either.

I find it ironic that Dan Mullen finally rips into the O line to challenge them this week, but what I saw from Towson was that Perine still doing the same thing since week 1. 16 yards on 6 carries or something like that. Basically can't be relied upon to get 3 yards at any point you'll need it. Put in the bigger bruising backs once the 2nd stringers go in late in the 4th, and they start ripping off nearly 10 yard runs along with that good TD run we had in the 3rd. Now a clever person is going to say, yes because the defense is tired by then, but I still think that Perine excelled last year because he was running behind Scarlett who was doing the heavy hitting early on. Putting Perine in as the feature #1 tailback to start the game is hindering us. Try Malik or Pierce in the 1st quarter and see what they give us.

But alas the opportunities for that are over now with the tune up games done with.

and no, I'm not about to second guess Dan Mullen. If he says these guys are consistently blowing their assignments, then that's what they're doing. He knows what he's looking at along with the rest of the coaches when they analyze the game replays. The rest of us generally don't because we don't know the plays that were called and what the guys were supposed to do.

They weren't crowding the line much. We just can't line up and run the ball with the RBs worth a damn right now. It took Pierce running over a safety to even have some numbers against this FCS team.

People like to act like last year's line wasn't that talented except for Taylor but they were good at pulling etc. and getting to defenders at the 2nd level. This group is pretty bad when it comes to that.

WoW! With 4 new starters the OL is not the best in the SEC...

Now that's are real surprise,,,, at least it is for some here....

And it's had a terrible affect on the games so far,,,, only 5-0 - 2-0 and ranked in the Top 10... o_O

Yep Perine has been a huge issue too. This is now the second straight game announces were calling him out for missing holes and diagramming it. Every other back has a higher yards per carry than him but he keeps getting the bulk of the carries.

We won't survive the gauntlet coming up too well if that O line doesn't start creating a running game for us. We ran for over 200 yards a game average in our SEC games last season.

Psychic are you???

Take what the defense gives. Pass for 400+ yards if that's what's needed.

If they play better over-all in the game, they'll win.
If not, they lose.

Are you new,,, or just as simple-minded as you always appear to be?

BUCK J.Moon Named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced their weekly football honors on Monday, as redshirt junior Jeremiah Moon was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in Florida's 38-0 win over Towson on Saturday.

Moon, a native of Hoover, Ala., recorded a season-high five tackles, including 0.5 sacks for a loss of four yards, in Saturday's win. Moon was one of eight Gators in Saturday's game to record 0.5 sacks, as the defense notched their second shutout of the season for the first time since 2012. Additionally, Florida leads the SEC in sacks with 24 overall, while tied for second amongst the rest of the FBS.

Moon has tallied 19 tackles on the season thus far, good for third on the team, while he's second on the team in tackles for losses with 5.5 for a loss of 15 yards.

 Sounds like Mullen isn't even buying into your sunshine pumping nonsense....

"I challenged them. That has got to improve" "That has got to improve for us. The mental toughness of the offensive line and their preparation has got to improve as we move forward. Those guys have got to. I know John gets on them. They're young guys 'Hey no, coach, I'm working.' 'No you're not. You're obviously not, because if you were working we wouldn't have missed assignments. So whatever you're doing is not enough.'

"They need to do more. NCAA rules, we're not going to have them here (all the time). So if you want to keep doing the same thing over and over again and you're not going to improve, what are you doing at night? Everyone learns differently. Tell me, are you walking it through at your dorm, at your apartment, are you drawing it, are you watching extra film? Everybody learns in a different way and guys have to learn what's the best way they can learn, what's the best way they can process information to get going? And then they've got to go do it. And if they don't, then we're not going to get better and we've got to find someone that can do it."
