Not trying to bring anyone down given the nice three game winning streak to end the season and great recruiting finish, but lost in all of that, (rightfully so, I might add) is that we absolutely need to improve the offense. I know everyone agrees that we need a new OC, but here's how bad it really is. With the caveats that Mertz got injured, Lagway was a true freshman pushed to be a starter months after arriving on campus, the high level of competition we play, and the abortion that was the Texas game, here's where we ended up among all 133 NCAA football teams:

Scoring Offense: 68 (27.9 Points Per Game)
Passing Offense: 78 (219.1 Yards Per Game)
Rushing Offense: 75 (156 Yards Per Game)
Third Down Conversion Percentage: 89 (.379%)
Fourth Down Conversion Percentage: 108 (.429%)☠️
Red Zone Offense: 50 (.867)
Total Offense: 81 (375 Yards Per Game)

Even what you think would be our strength, (rushing offense) is still just barely better than our passing offense. There's a bunch more relevant offensive statistical categories, but it's all about the same as the above. We are in the bottom 1/3 of NCAA football teams and have anemic third and fourth down conversion rates. I expect these numbers will likely improve with Lagway just having another year under his belt, however I think with the talent we have and that is coming in, we should be able to be at least a Top 20 offense.

Here's hoping that Billy is going to bring in someone to actually run the offense. It would be hard to be a downgrade, and if we are going to make a playoff run in the next two years, we absolutely have to dramatically improve on offense.
