Thoughts on this Florida team moving onto 2024......

Percy Harvin 5-11 184
2006 Freshman Stats:

Rec - 34 for 427, 12.6 Ave, 2 TD's,
Rush - 41 for 428 yds, 10.4 ypc, 3 TD's,
Total Offense 75 for 855 yds, 5 TD's

Eugene Wilson III 5-10 181

2023 Freshman Stats:
Rec - 61 for 538, 8.8 Ave, 6 TD's
Rush - 6 for 55 yds, 9.2 ypc,
Total Offense 67 for 593, 6 TD's

While keeping in mind that Percy had Meyer/Mullen running their National Championship offense, with Heisman Finalist Leak, and future Heisman Tebow at QB, not the 5-7 cluster that Wilson had around him....

Okay guys, the 2023 5-7 Cluster is over and now in the books, so moving on to what's coming in 2024...

The 7 'Early' Sports Book Opening Lines for UF in 2024:

This month saw the Circa Sports sportsbook release opening lines for its games of the year ahead of the 2024 college football season, including seven Florida games.

It would be a positive thing for me if Napier could win 1/2 of the games where they are a single digit underdog, especially if it's 7 Pts or less....

L to Miami by 3 Pts - 8-31

FCS Samford is the only Gimmie W... 9-7
W over UCF by 6 Pts - 10-5

L @ FSUcks by 11 Pts - 11-30

===== SEC =====

L @ Tn by 9 Pts - 10-12

L @ WLOCP / UGly by 19 Pts - 11-2

L @ TX by 19 Pts - 11-9

L to LSU by 6 Pts - 11-16

With Fr 5-star DJ here, getting a 4-5 star QB to commit in the 2025 class is unlikely imo.

The iG likes the 2026 #10 QB-pp Commit, Will Griffin 6-3 225 **** 0.9540
If you haven't, watch his HUDL 2023 Soph Highlights from Tampa Jusuit, they are available at the below link.

13 Gms - 244 of 361 67.6%, 3,404 yds, 14.0 Ave, 34 TD's, 10 Ints, QBR 117.5
Rush - 35 for 83 Yds, 2.4 ypc, 1 TD, 3 LPF's

He can QB-sneak or run a little when flushed, but he'd rather stand in to make the throw.
FL schools offered him (UF-FSU-Mia-UCF-USF), plus 8 SEC's, plus Mich/tOSU/ND, etc....

The sportsbooks are straight up saying they trust Cristobal more than Napier by disrespecting the Swamp like that favoring Miami by 3 on the road. Both coaches were complete train wrecks last season.

It's now full summer, so let the 'Talkin Season' drivel begin..... 😎

A gruesome kneecap dislocation robbed ILB Shemar James of the final four games of the season. James, with a healed kneecap will barrel onto the film, looking to pick up where he left off. In all honesty, the defense collapsed. Losing leads in the fourth quarter against Arkansas and Missouri. The team limped to a 5-7 year, losing every game that James missed.
Added through xfer from SCa, 4-Star Grayson Howard joins the team for 2024.

Here is the 2024 Preseason ILB list. The Defense should be better,,, I'm hoping.

Derek Wingo 6-1 242 Sr ***** Gatorade FL PoY
R.J. Moten 6-0 230 Sr **** - Mich xfer - (Ron Legacy)
Shemar James 6-1 230 Jr *****- #1 ILB by Rivals + UA-AA
Deuce Spurlock II 6-0.5 232 rsSo *** - Mich xfer (2023 ST's)
Grayson Howard 6-4 235 So **** - SCa xfer
Jaden Robinson 6-0 233 So ****
Myles Graham 6-0.75 222 Fr ***** - (Earnest legacy) #1 ILB by Rivals + UA-AA
-----
Justin Pelic 5-11 222 rsSr-Grad and WO
Jake Xeller 6-2 239 Fr - WO

If the iG had to guess at the 1-2 starters.....
James/Graham and Wingo/Howard but Fall practice will sort that out.
Moten and Robinson did each have 1 start in 2023.

An impressive group for sure. I hope the coaching is equally improved.

Will the DL be able to put pressure on the opposing QB's this season is a question to be answered vs the scUM thugs of Mi-Am-I to start the season.... It was sorely lacking last season imo. Napier has had a slue of xfer outs on the DL, both his own recruits and those already on the roster. He'd better get whatever the problem was/is fixed quickly....

So, what does the interior DL roster look like for 2024?
The Core of the DL:

DT Joey Slackman 6--3.5 304 Grad-Sr **** - Penn xfer - AA & Ivy Def PoY
NT Desmond Watson 6-5 464 Sr ****
NT Cam Jackson 6-6 374 Sr **** - Memphis xfer
DT Caleb Banks 6-5.75 325 rsJr *** - UL xfer
----- the rest -----
DT Jamari Lyons 6-3.5 298 rsSo ***
DT D'Antre Robinson 6-3 302 Fr ****
NT Michai Boireau 6-4.75 382 Fr ***
-----
DT/DE Tyreik Norwood 6-2.75 243 rsSr - Kentucky Wesleyan xfer - WO
NT Sebastian Scott 6-2 372 rsFr - PWO
DT Andre Morris 6-2.75 308 rsFr - PWO
DT Nicolas Flynn 6-2.5 279 rsFr - PWO

Looks like pretty good players with experience in the 2 deep, but the rest are currently in the shallow end of the pool.... Injuries, or a lack thereof, might be critical in 2024?
The interior DL looks like the questionable group on the defense to the iG, but maybe they can 'rise and shine' to surprise us all?

DC Austin Armstrong - Hired from SMs prior to 2023 season
When first hired by SMs, he was the youngest defensive coordinator in the FBS.

First Year Coaches at UF for the 2024 season:
DL Gerald Chatman - Hired from Tulane Dec 2023
Co-DC Ron Roberts - Hired from Auburn Jan 2024

I'm sure that we're all hoping that this begins to fix the defensive woes.....

Hard to say but it's Napier coaches and players mostly now. No excuses year 3. Hopefully Napier and his assistants had a class on counting to 11.

Fever, we are all hoping that we can one day soon look back at Napier's first couple of years as his necessary 'growing pains' as a young SEC HC. As always, we'll see soon enough....

Nothing but the iG's 'talkin season' drivel, but here it is.

Defense by position group quality/experience:

  1. ILB
  2. DE/STAR
  3. Secondary
  4. DT/NT
So on to the DE/EDGE position group for 2024: Depth & Quality seems to me.

Ja'Markis Weston 6-2.5 234 rsSr Grad - SEC-HR, backup & ST's (converted *** WR)
Tyreak Sapp 6-2.5 275 rsJr ***** - #5 SDE, AA Bowl
Justus Boone 6-3.75 267 rsJr **** - 2023 Preseason injured out, now ready to make a comeback.
Jack Pyburn 6-3 261 Jr *** - Started 8 Gms, then injured out.
Quincy Ivory 6-3.25 252 Jr *** - Legacy - E.LA & Ms Val-St (QB/LB) xfer
Kelby Collins 6-3.75 275 So **** - Fr All SEC
TJ Searcy 6-5 254 So **** - 12 Gms back up
Kamran James 6-5.5 274 So **** - UA-AA - 12 Gms ST's

---
George Gumbs 6-4 246 rsJr - N.ILL xfer (converted 2-star WR)
Layne Swafford 6-2 251 rsFr - PWO

They should be able to get at least a 2 deep with quality and experience.

The secondary looks loaded, but what they did last season left much to be desired imo.

DB Cahron Rackley 5-9.75 194 rsSo - WO
DB Ahman Covington 5-11 187 rsFr - PWO
DB Brayden Slade 6-0.5 193 rsFr - PWO

If they can't get a rock solid Secondary out of that group, then it's the coaching/system imo....

WR roster for 2024:

Ja'Quavion Fraziars 6-3.5 218 Sr **** - UA-AA - 42 Gms
Chimere Dike 6-0.25 195 Sr *** - Wis xfer
Kahleil Jackson 6-3 215 rsJr ** - Legacy+, WO to Ship- 11 Gms, 9 Starts

TJ Abrams 5-10 197 Fr **** - WR + RB 6.3 YPC
Tank Hawkins 5-9.5 170 Fr **** - IMG 10.37 100M
Taylor Spierto 6-0 206 rsJr - 12 Gms, ST's & B-Up - WO - Cum Laude Grad, Economics

Jackson Wade 5-11 171 rsFr - PWO
Brian Green 6-0 193 rsFr - PWO
Jaden Edgecombe 5-8 178 rsFr - WO

Those 4 rsFR/Fr should see plenty of playing time behind the experienced starters in 2024 imo.....

If you can't get good production out of that group, size-speed-experience,
then I'd be looking at the system-play calling-QB.

The Florida Gators are heating up on the recruiting trail. They added a four-star receiver to their Class of 2025.

Four-star WR Joshua Moore 6-4 210 (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) chose Florida over rivals Florida State and Miami, he announced on Wednesday. He is rated as the No. 9 overall receiver and No. 57 overall prospect in the class of 2025 by On3.

His highlights can be viewed with a link in this article...

Look for big years for Kelby Collin’s and McCray.
I agree, but don't forget about or over-look the experience and talent of Sapp & Boone...

Tyreak Sapp 6-2.5 275 rsJr ***** - #5 SDE, AA Bowl
Justus Boone 6-3.75 267 rsJr **** - 2023 Preseason injured out, now ready to make a comeback.

I do think it's safe to say that top to bottom, this is the most talent we had in 4-5 years. Better translate to wins lol

Keeping in mind,,,, that Dan did this with what you've calling 'less talent' than the current 2024 roster....
😮

That terrible Dan fellow was handed a 2017 4-7 dead roster McLame team that had lost 5 of their last 6 games.

5 years ago (2018), Dan took the 4-7's and promptly went 10-3 with a NY-6 Peach Bowl slaughter of Mich, 41-15.
4 Years ago (2019) they went 11-2, played for the SEC-C, while beating VA 36-28 in the NY-6 Orange Bowl.
Mullen became the first head coach in FBS history to win BCS / New Year’s Six bowl games in each of his first two seasons with a program. And the last time Florida logged consecutive top-10 finishes in the AP Top 25 and back-to-back 10-win seasons was 2008 and 2009.
In Jan. 2020, the No. 7 College Football Playoff ranking was the best in school history.

3 Years ago (2020) they still went 8-4 during the Demon-rats Co-V Scamdemic... (he wanted to FILL the SWAMP)
2 Years ago (2021) they went 5-6 under the already ostracized Dan, before him being fired by the failing Progressive Socialist-U after the Mizzou game... (didn't coach FSU or Bowl game) --- Dan left UF with a 34-15 (.694) W/L record....

Political firings or hires of HC's rarely work out for the better IMOHO...
Jusdamn GBO, you managed to get me back on that already DEAD HORSE.....

Moving right along and getting back to the 2024 coach and team,,,, pleeeeze.

On3 and 247 both saying he's criminally ranked low...most expect a composite 150 or lower once all is said and done. I think he was the #1 WR on FSU's board, or so I read somewhere

Point is - he looks legit.

Not my opinion. He had some of our opponents down those years except for GA and still couldn't win the weak SEC East those first 2 seasons. Those first 2 seasons if I remember right were also carried by Mac's defenders. I remember his 2020 class (not sure on 2021) had most of the blue chippers and almost literally every 3 star transfer out by now. We can rag on Napier but he was the first recent coach that didn't inherit enough top defensive players that were ready to play.

4-7 Team fell apart but left good defensive talent for Mullen who chose to keep playing Franks who did a good Driskel impression here.

Mullen then recruited us into the position we were in when Napier took over. Mullen did some real damage his last few years. He had a knack for getting some classes where most of the blue chippers were busts. Even had to be forced to start Trask over Franks.

Mullen's first team at UF had 24 players he inherited from Mac that went on to play in the NFL. Of Mullen's first recruiting class there were 7 that went on to play in the NFL. Napier's first team at UF he inherited 10 players that went on to play in the NFL (Napier added O'Cy and RP via transfer). Now granted, there are most likely 3 more left in college that should get drafted. Numbers don't lie, people do. Mullen took over a much more talented team. As has been factually pointed out, the cupboard was bare when Napier took over. A result of Mullen's poor recruiting. Now the excuses are over. This is year 3, plenty of time to rebuild the talent levels. Nappy owns it.

Yep year 3 especially with the portal now you fully own it.

Hopefully some more Elite receivers will get on board to play with Lagway

4-7 Team fell apart but left good defensive talent for Mullen who chose to keep playing Franks who did a good Driskel impression here.

Mullen then recruited us into the position we were in when Napier took over. Mullen did some real damage his last few years. He had a knack for getting some classes where most of the blue chippers were busts. Even had to be forced to start Trask over Franks.
Can't forget some of Mullen's recruits also failed to qualify academically.

That and all kinds of stuff with his 2nd class. A really big number of the blue chippers never made it even to the 1st game that year. Then 2020 had almost the whole class transfer out eventually. His 2021 class has more contributors than the 2020 class but ended up not being that good for its ranking either. Mullen took a lot of guys the services had ranked high but that weren't being pursued by the other top teams as much as the ranking would suggest.

As K. Ratliff (he was in charge of recruiting) very publicly pointed out, Mullen was not that engaged with recruiting. And it showed. Great offensive mind though. Guy could score some points.

Yep I do think Mullen could probably do well as a head coach at a big place now (which I doubted after he left) since NIL is here and fully in place. Not saying you can do that Deion Sanders nonsense of not even hardly seeing recruits off campus but you don't have to be the huge salesman anymore as long as the program's boosters are spending money and the program is putting people in the NFL. It is funny that he had to be forced to go with Trask though but he has always been hard headed when it came to playing less experienced QBs until his hand was forced usually with the other guy getting injured or something like that.

Players often leave with a coaching change, and some times for good reasons.....

And maybe they should have given him a 50+ staff (recruitiing) like the next guy got.

And maybe Socialist-U should have agreed to 'Fill the SWAMP,' like aTm did and got away with.

Any maybe,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, we should all just move on to 2024..................
