Thoughts on this Florida team moving onto 2024......

Florida brings back 70 percent of its offensive production from last season, while UF brings back 66 percent of its defensive production under a retooled defensive coaching staff that saw the departures of three assistants – Corey Raymond, Sean Spencer and Jay Bateman – followed by the arrivals of Will Harris, Gerald Chatman and executive head coach for the defense, Ron Roberts.

The iG sees trouble for 2024 in that the returning production has gone 6-6 & 5-7.
This means the newbees need to be really good vs the the projected #1 SoS in 2024.
😖

Florida's head coach is of the opinion the returnees will allow the Gators to be more competitive in 2024, although oddsmakers have once again set the team's over/under in total wins at 5.5 as spring camp looms.

Offense was good the last 6 games. The defense was awful the last 6 games. If we can get the output from the O we saw the back half of the season we will be fine. But defense will have to get a whole lot better.

Then maybe he should have said the new coaches on defense will allow...

All Gators is projecting roles for each transfer acquisition.

Next up is defensive back pickup S Asa Turner 6-2 208, a super senior who joins Florida after five seasons at Washington.

A consensus top-300, four-star safety prospect from Carlsbad (Calif.) High in the class of 2019, Turner picked the Huskies over Notre Dame specifically, with Michigan, Oregon, USC, Arizona, Arizona State and several other Power 5 programs in the mix as well.

Coaching Washington's DB's in an assistant role at the time was current Florida secondary coach Will Harris. With links to the evaluations to the rest of the Xfer-In's.

Freshman RB Teyaun Webb 5-11 210 - 26 for 163 Yds, 6.3 ypc.

rsSr RB Cam Carroll -- A Tulane xfer-in knee injury in Fall practice, missed 2023.

Jr RB Ja'Kovi Jackson 5-11 220 - DNP, redshirted, 2023 Coahoma-CC xfer-In
=====

Looking forward to 2024:
The RB's could very well be better with the loss of the drama queen, ET.
Note: Some Ht & Wt expected to change between now and Sept.

Sr RB Montrell Johnson Jr 5-11 215 - 5.4 ypc

Soph RB Teyaun Webb 5-11 210 - 6.3 ypc

rsSr RB Cam Carroll 6-0 230 - 2023 Tulane xfer-in
2020 full season stats before injury - 122 for 741 yds, 6.1 ypc, 12 TD's

rsJr RB Ja'Kovi Jackson 5-11 220 - 2023 Coahoma-CC xfer-In 5.2 ypc

Fr RB/QB/WR Kahnen Daniels 5-11 190 ****
He had a record-breaking Sr campaign in 5A MS HS football.
203 for 2,032 Yds, 10.0 ypc with 24 TD's.

Fr RB/S/WR Jadan Baugh 6-1 215 ****
HS Sr Season stats: 113 for 1,583 Yds, 14.0 ypc.
Receiving - 28 catches for 531 yards
DB - 54 tackles, 6 interceptions.

Both Fr RB's could redshirt with a little playing time in 2024, barring injuries.
I actually like the 2 newbee Fr better than ET when he arrived.
This is as loaded of a backfield as they've had in a while, so AMF ET....

I really like Webb. My humble opinion he will have a breakout season.

"Wisconsin transfer Chimere Dike comes to UF for his final year of eligibility and immediately becomes a contender to start due to his production and familiarity with Mertz."

Making Wis. WR Xfer-In Chimere Dike 6-1 200 a big deal just seems funny to me.
As a HS recruit he was a 4-star 90. Now as a xfer he is a 3-star 88 per 247Sports.
4 years at Wis = 97 for 1,478 yds and 9 TD's.
Divide by 4 and you get the per year average:
97/4 = 24.25 receptions
1,478/4 = 369.5
9/4 = 2.25 TD's
Yearly Ave = 24 for 369 yds and 2 TD's

2023 rsJr Season: 19 for 328 Yds, L-41, 1 TD
He's had 1 season out of 4 with 20+ receptions.
All I have to say to that is Wooop-Peee!!!
(I guess I'll just hope that he can rise to his own highest potential as a Gator)

"He will likely battle incumbent starter Jackson, redshirt freshmen Jean and Mizell and career backups Fraziars and Burke for a starting position on the outside."

Projected WR Roster for 2024:
A Spring roster has already been listed, but without the current Ht/Wt info.

Ja'Quavion Fraziars Sr - 2023 12 Gms WR 4 for 44 Yds & ST's 1 Tkl
Kahleil Jackson rsJr - 2023 11 Gms, 9 Starts, 21 for 251 Yds, 1 TD
Marcus Burke rsJr - 2023 7 Gms, 6 for 98 Yds
Eugene Wilson III So - 2023 starter, SEC All Fr and Fr AA
Andy Jean rsFr - 4 Gms 6 Rec for 97 Yds, with 2 KR's for 44 Yds
Aidan Mizell rsFr - 10.65 100M, 2 Gms, 2 Rec for 25 Yds
-----
Newbees:
Chimere Dikes rsSr - also as a possible return man on ST's.

The one-man weak-side JACK spot has lost three starting contributors over the past year and a half.
Brenton Cox Jr was dismissed from the team mid-2022.
His replacement, Antwaun Poeell-Ryland Jr xfer-out to Va last off-season.
Then Princely Umanmielen xfer-out to Ole Piss to end the 2023 season....
Jusdamn!

Listed Ht & Wt are from the 2023 roster and/or the 247 recruit page so they are subject to change.

Returning and rotating at both F (SDE) & Jack (WDE).

Tyreak Sapp 6-3 275 rsJr - Kelby Collins 6-4 270 So - TJ Searcy 6-5 245 So
Justus Boone 604 265 rsJr went out preseason with an ACL tear.
Jack Pyburn 6-3 250 rsFr went to F when Sapp shifted to Jack.
Pyburn then went out prior to week 10 with a torn ACL.
Kamran James 6-6 270 Fr ended up getting 77 snaps on D and 99 on ST's.

Newbees at the position going into the 2024 season:

Ja'Markis Weston 6-3 230 position switch from WR/SS
Brien Taylor Jr 6-5 281 - JUCO xfer-in.
George Gumbs 6-4 242 Jr - xfer-in N.ILL

LJ McCray 6-5 280 Fr *****
Napier said about McCray.
"We kind of see him in that F mode. He certainly has got a lot of position flex."

Guessing at positions for 2024:
F - Sapp - Boone - Taylor
Jack - Collins 6-4 272 - Searcy - Pyburn - Gumbs
Any of the DE's could play at either end, and the depth chart is wide open.
And there are others that are available on the roster.

You can see SI's projected positions and depth chart at this link.

“There’s a feeling around the Gators of ‘what the heck are we doing?’ There’s a lot of questions that I don’t have the answers to about organization,” said Spurrier. “Just because you hire the most people doesn’t mean you’re going to win. All these extra people, I question how much that really helps.
“Billy [Napier] is a good guy who works his tail off. I like Billy, good family man. But we do wish the organization was a little bit more tidy.”

Reminds me of a joke I heard about a tribe of pygmies who were called the Hellawee tribe because they constantly wandered around in the high grasses and shrubs saying, "Where the Hell are we?"
