The People Have Spoken!

At least we got med pot in Florida. sadgator will finally have relief from his debilitating anxiety.

Within a few years, it will be legal everywhere.

It's now in 5 states for recreational use.

How it's still illegal in Hawaii blows my mind.

Least surprising election result ever. For the record, didn't vote for either, because it was already a done deal- That being said...

Just about everyone in this country is dissatisfied with our leaders- F$%#ing pissed, really, and justifiably so- and therefore ready to throw a brick through the window of 'The Government' at large, and for good reason... Trump is a brick. Hillary was a 'window."

So when her own party chose the status-quo 'window' over the 'brick' well math goes out the window. Bernie Sanders was the Dem brick.

The DNC's active campaign to subvert Bernie and anoint HRC between super-delegates and what we've seen from the leaked emails was their undoing... Plus she is incredibly unlikable, full of crap, and beholden to wall street and special interests.. She's the 'window' after all! That circus clown was at least authentic and pissed EVERYONE off, including a ton of people in his own party.. A cinder-block through the window really.

I'm 10000% sure Bernie would have wiped the floor with Trump or anyone else from the GOP from enthusiasm alone, just like Trump wiped the floor with all of the other 'windows' in his party for very similar reasons.

Not a bit surprised.

Bernie the brick, now that is funny. A chia pet has more charisma.

You didn't vote because it was already a done deal?

What a GD cornball douchebag. There is so much wrong with that statement. First of all, judging by your name, no one should listen to anything you have to say about politics and government. That being said, it was not a DONE DEAL by any stretch of the imagination, that's just bullshit.

Another thing is that voting is not just about POTUS. There are local races and ballot initiatives in every municipality. You're a flocking fool not to realize that the most important votes are for things that affect you locally.

I guess if you've never voted, you don't realize there are lots of things to vote for other than POTUS>...but by all means, keep bitching but not voting.

Please re-read my post.. I didn't say I didn't vote, just not for 'either' (adding "of them" or "of the two" may have been more precise, and with the assumption readers understood I was speaking about the major party candidates- sincere apologies). I've been reliably voting in Federal/State/Municipal elections since reached the age of majority many years ago.

The "done deal" part was my opinion, as I felt the anger towards our government in general had been significantly underestimated in most of the commentary on the election that I'd seen, and it seemed clear to me that Trump would win going back to the first debate, and especilly upon the release of the 1st incarnation of his 100 day plan... The resonance with the voting public seemed clear to me. I do think Bernie would have owned the rust belt for the same reason.. The working class is fed up with the system, when the DNC specifically sided with the establishment, wall-street, and the "business as usual" politician-type that has royally EFFED them since their jobs vaporized under the prior Clinton's NAFTA and repeal of Glass-Steagall- they just picked up the nearest rock to throw. Both of them (Trump and Clinton to be specific) have significant flaws- a point with which I think everyone agrees.

"Yes" on 2 by the way, and I had a pretty blended ticket overall.

Trump is a buffoon.

But the recent explosion of aggressively judgy uber PC, publicly pillory and ruin your life if you utter anything that isn't in lockstep with the increasingly narrow views of the Far Left is at least 10 percent of the reason why Trump won. The one silver lining of having His Clownness elected is watching the apoplectic head explosions of these self important twits on social media as their fragile world view is shattered forever.

I used to call myself a "liberal," but now I have no idea what it means any more. I thought it meant legalizing pot and letting gays get married and basically minding your own damn business and letting people live their lives. But most people who called themselves liberals today annoy me.

Part of the problem has got to be the election process itself. Of all the educated, reasonable, and qualified folks out there (on both political party sides), it is absurd that those were the best two the public had to choose from. After watching the negativity of the campaigns, sadgator figures that you have to be nuts to put yourself through that process. It probably weeds out most of the more qualified and sane potential candidates. It would be great if we could do something about that, but it seems impossible.

Agree. But on the plus side, if you feel the need to piece together your younger years, run for office, the other party will certainly do it for you.

I find this to be a reasonable observation. Although I'm not entirely certain Donald Trump is actually a buffoon.
HRC was a horrid candidate because she is a horrid person. I find myself heartened by the fact that at least 60 million of my fellow countrymen agreed with me.

More good work in bringing us back from the abyss will actually rely on the Legislative branch, who now has no excuse and should no longer put off the heavy lifting. Who here does not know of one person firsthand or a relative of a co-worker who has had incredible increases of Obamacare premiums? That has to be addressed.

Hopefully, the republican party realizes the voters are no longer going to fall for business as usual. If they're going to compete in the future, they're going to need to actually pay attention to what American citizens have to say.

Actually, if you would have looked a little closer, there was a lot more substance being presented, at least on the Trump side. The fact that the media focused on the meaningless drama as directed by the Hilary campaign does not mean it wasn't there. Tens of thousands of people got to hear excellent policy speeches every day the last few weeks of the campaign. As for "qualified" who knows what that is any more.. we have had decades of leaders with the right degrees from all the right places, and who have done all the right things, but all we have gotten is more and more govt, more and more corruption, and more and more elitists trying to run our lives. I suggest you find your inner liberal, shed off your outer leftist and help make America great again....

Not a buffoon at all, not a clown at all, but no need arguing those points. But you probably are a liberal in the classic sense, which means not trusting big govt, wanting free speech, opposing leftism, etc. Take a look at JFK speeches and see which party he would fit into today. Guess "Republican" and "conservative" are dirty words today, but that is where you find people who actually are fighting for liberty.

I don't know about that. Conservatives often talk about "less government" and "liberty." But if two dudes want to get married, or engage in recreational pot use, or burn an American flag, that "small government" stuff seems to go right out the window.

Both the Left and Right have blind spots when it comes to "liberty." The Left seems to be aggressively policing speech these days. If you are unfortunate enough to commit a minor faux pas online, you can end up with 1000s of Twitter fanatics harassing your employer into firing you. There is a true blood lust coming out of the Left these days that is honestly frightening.

Why the hell would he try and sexually harass these b!tches when he's got her at home?

As many on here have said, the average voter is an an idiot. Congratulations on being one of them.

This is what happens when you attempt to marginalize a majority. The people that were told they were racist and sexist and xenophobic and homophobic and it was their own fault they couldn't make a living anymore because they were too stupid to get with the program, they figured out they weren't outnumbered yet. So they sent a big gigantic **** you to the elites and hoped that since the power structure had failed them so utterly, maybe someone, anyone could help them. Because sometimes it can't get any worse than it is now.

Or in simpler terms, DON'T PISS OFF THE WHITE PEOPLE. THEY STILL HAVE ALL THE MONEY AND POWER.

I think it is really sad, the left has completely removed the meaning of words like racism, anti-Semitic, and misogyny, by using them to attack people that they disagree with.

Bill Maher of all people admitted this. They accused McCain, and then Romney. Neither are whom are remotely racist. So when they tried this trick with Trump who I don't believe is any more racist that those two he just has more flamboyant campaign rhetoric, that alarm bell didn't ring anymore.

A lot of the opinions I've seen recently have been to state the Democrats need to move a lot more to the left to recapture their prominence.....I'm hoping this is true; because that would certainly increase their implosion

I support this as well....wonder how we can help them get Ellison as DNC chair?

And all this hysteria now is just that....in 1980 there was a freak out about Reagan, and we were promised it would usher in Nazi-ism and a return of the KKK.

I hope the Dems keep moving to the Left and the GOP keeps moving to the Right, so we'll finally end up with a moderate third party, like they have in the UK, and other countries.

The Dems shot themselves in the foot. They concluded that demographics favor dumping white voters, in favor of minorities, to earn votes. It's going to be tricky to do a 180 and suddenly go back to courting the white working class, while maintaining credibility with the Far Left, after spending the last few years holding white people up as the Oppressor.

If the Democrats want to win again, in the next generation, they need to purge their ranks of corporatist shills and promote more grass-roots populists. They also need to tone down the PC Outrage Culture.

Similar to the hysteria that Obama was a socialist, a Muslim, would confiscate all of your guns, was for open borders, and we would have runaway inflation. None of those things happened either.

LOL. Which ones?

Him being a socialist is absoltely true - he's as much admitted it. Also open borders..... as the list of immigration laws his justice department has openly stated they won't enforce is pretty long.

He has been in favor of significant gun control legislation, including limited bans

And there has been commodity inflation in direct response to each quantum easement action. The reason the inflation hasn't been worse in certain sectors is wage stagnation and the bottom the Saudis are holding on oil prices

Liberalism is a sin

I'm pretty cool with liberalism, in fact most of the conservative/libertarian folks like me are really "liberals" in the classic sense. Leftists on the other hand are pure evil, and the greatest threat to our way of life.

Things are going great. Not sure what everybody was worried about with Trump.

I truly believe that character is destiny so this was always what a Trump presidency would look like. I predict that it will continue to get worse as his already paper thin patience wears further and he continues to learn that being President is not like being King.

I hope the GOP is decimated in 2018 for supporting this guy and comes back as a stronger center-right party under promising younger conservatives like Ben Sasse.
