Critical thinking tells me it means that heavy snow in historically mild or warm climates is all but impossible if the entire globe is warming at a rate that means this is the five hottest years in the planet's history.

Science is a living document, not concrete dogma. Theories change or evolve over time due to new discoveries. That’s how it’s supposed to work. Einstein pulled the rug out from under classical mechanics. Does that make Newton a fraud?

As for the cherry-picking, that’s why peer review is critical. Everyone has biases and blindspots. Subjecting educated propositions to educated criticism is best way to evaluate them.
