So Miami got away with murder

I understand, but the last play doesn't occur on its own....lots of other things led to it....I just think it is a dangerous precedent if anything is reversed.
I think there needs to be a big discussion about this. Reasonable people can disagree with a final decision, but a conversation needs to be had.

I agree with this. It is essentially the integrity of the game if such incompetence is allowed to decide games vs. the precedent that it would set.

I dunno, that's some scary chit...where do you draw the line? Obviously the last play was bullspit, but if they had gotten the call right before, Duke doesn't get a TD, and that play never happens....

If it screws Miami or F$U the fine :)

meh, they are too incompetent to be corrupt.
At one time, I thought you were right. But back when the 2003 swindle happened, some intrepid reporter found several incidences in ACC OOC games where the ACC crew seemingly skewed the game in favor of the ACC team.

That said, this was not one of those incidents, given both are ACC teams.

Fact is the Duke football team is paying for all of the calls that Coach K has been the beneficiary of over the years.

Cutcliffe called the officials out for it, what is the point of having replay if all humans do is mess up every call no matter what? It's baffling how ignorant human beings are

you look at any picture and it will show the guys knee was down on the last play

The guy who reviews the replay is human, too. Maybe in his mind he wasn't totally sure Walton's knee was on the ground

I do not think any conference has such a mechanism in place. But they should

slippery slope, man, and what about all the money gambled that was already paid out? Unfortunately, the problem is, this could cost Duke a shot at the division championship

It bears saying again. The ACC is a clown football conference. This is yet another example of that.

That was not the last play of the game. That is my point.

Actually, it would have been technically. Duke was out of TO's and the clock would have run out had they not scored (and they didn't). I just don't think there's any good answer to this. I mean where do you draw the line? The implications are insane. Do teams get to go back and challenge past calls? The end of the game was no doubt effed up, but they aren't even at that point if they correctly called the Duke QB down short of the goal line.

I understand your point buddy. But there was still time left on the clock. Miami would have to run at least one play if the 4th down play was a stop

I've noticed that ACC refs call a lot of stuff that SEC refs don't bother with. The SEC allows a more "physical" game. When SEC and ACC teams meet, the SEC team tends to get penalized because they are accustomed to a more permissive ref style.

If you think instant replay is a complete disaster, what about the football selection committee? We got rid of the BCS and in the process we got rid of the computers which threw out all bias and voted without prejudice or passion. Something is wrong and it's not getting any better in this sport on a year to year basis.

If I could change ONE thing in this game today, it would be to remove that bullshit targeting penalty. It's football, the goal is to HIT other people. It's our modern equivalent of gladiatorial combat in an arena. Stop treating it like a damn knitting circle.
The targeting thing has gone FULL RETARD. I've seen numerous players thrown out on BS calls. It seems the officials are told to call it and let the booth sort out any spectacular hit on the field. It's bullshit.

And might I add, I think it's happened to FSU several times this season and those were bad calls as well.

That might be a question of style. But that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about obvious blown calls. Change of possession calls and the like.
