Football Miami @ Florida...

Yes he did. He actually said Whittemore should have been playing instead of Pearsall. And he will tell us how much better Brown is than Mertz although through now 8 quarters of football Brown led offense have put up 16 total points. But to his credit, he, Ocala, Michi and Sad hated the Napier hire. And they were all correct. Based on what I've seen, who the hell knows if we have good players or not, when they are being coached by this staff.
I wasn't thrilled with it either. I was..................WHO is THAT? 😂 Since when does UF go to the FCS to steal coaching talent?

Mertz failed to connect on multiple deep shots to AzSt xfer-in WR Elijhah Badger 6-1 192 Sr As Legacy HS recruit Kahleil Jackson 6-3 215 rsJr watched from the bench.... KJ had one catch on the day for 13 Yds and a 1st down.

Not much of a surprise I guess, reviewing last seasons 5-7 results....
Mertz 2023 - 38 pass attempts of 20+ Yds, with only 16 completions.
Vs scUM - 11 of 20, 55% for 91 yds, 0 TD's, 1 Int, 2 sacks, (while going 1/6 on deep balls).
It marked the second consecutive game Mertz had to exit the losing game with an injury.

While true Fr Lagway had the only sustained drive for a TD in the game....

==========

The highly-anticipated start to Napier's 3rd season, with his own chosen players, could not have gone much worse for the Gators, who suffered their first defeat in a home opener in 35 years, ending their NCAA record win streak for home opener wins. The Gators woke up Sunday morning with a 6 game losing streak and more questions than answers.

Why does Napier deserve all of the criticism coming his way now?

From his own mouth:

"They beat us today, and I don't have a ton of excuses," Gators head coach Billy Napier said at his deflated post game press conference. "Miami outplayed us, they out-coached us, and I give them credit. I mean, it's embarrassing, to be quite honest with you. That's how I feel. That's how our kids feel."

Players have been replaced
Assistant Coaches have been replaced.
While the (6-7, 5-7, 0-1 = 11-15 loser) HC/OC remains the same....
Insanity = Doing the same things over and over while expecting things to change.

Fire the UF Pres.
Fire the UF AD.
Fire the UF Football HC.
Dump Mertz, play Lagway.
Hire Dan Mullen back as HC/OC.
Give him the 50+ staff with recruiting while changing/improving that group as needed.

Hire the best DC available, like when SOS hired Stoops, turning the D over to him completely.
Do you think we could get Mullen back or did the powers that be rub him the wrong way too hard? He is a bit too flaky weird but he does have offensive brains. It's down to Fisch, 48 years old, and Kiffen, 49 years old, for the future. Bell is 59 years old so perhaps he's a bit too old for long term investment? As an alum, I do favor fellow alumni HBC's a la Fisch and Bell out of a shared emotional attachment to UF. With Kiffen I could see UF being a terminal and long coaching stop for him because he has the offensive brains and wit of a Spurrier.

My memory says Dan Mullen fired himself by refusing to dump 3rd and Grantham after years of defensive woes and an utter lack of team discipline on the field. Mullen was a great O/C but not much of a head coach.
Well, there was that time Mullen had cowbell U ranked #1 in all the land, that ain't a fluke. If the 12 team playoffs were around during Mullen's tenure at UF, we would have made some noise.

We were decent those years but limited teams imo that were in a weaker SEC East. We did at least have D linemen that could get after a QB though and in 2020 Trask was on fire to hide other deficiencies.

These are the PFF scores for our defense I saw posted elsewhere. Some of them just make you shake your head but the scores can be affected a lot by who the defender is taking on in these games. Watson played quite a few snaps for him and did decent according to this. Miami's tackles apparently handled Boone with ease most of the game. Howard did stick out on the TV broadcast. Our secondary ratings were atrocious this game. Shemar James was surprising getting that low of a score for him.

  • Desmond Watson (27) 73.0
  • Joey Slackman (26) 70.6
  • Michai Boireau (13) 70.5
  • Kelby Collins (7) 68.1
  • Cam’Ron Jackson (27) 60.1
  • Caleb Banks (31) 59.2
  • Tyreak Sapp (21) 76.0

  • Jordan Castell (53) 47.6
  • DJ Douglas (36) 40.1

These are the PFF scores for the offense I saw posted elsewhere. Surprised George got the score he did but maybe he mostly screwed up really bad later in the game. With some better passes I am sure Badger would be up in the 70s. Not sure who Barber was going against mostly but that isn't bad considering the DEs etc. they have. RT was just pitiful.

Graham Mertz (41) 42.4
• DJ Lagway (15) 56.6
• Montrell Johnson (34) 70.6
• Jadan Baugh (5) 63.3
• Ja’Kobi Jackson (6) 57.9
• Treyaun Webb (11) 57.1
Elijah Badger (33) 69.2
• Eugene Wilson (43) 67.8

• Chimere Dike (33) 59.7
• Kahleil Jackson (19) 57.7
• Aidan Mizell (13) 55.9
• Marcus Burke (11) 54.4
• Hayden Hansen (29) 50.9
• Tony Livingston (11) 50.8
• Arlis Bordingham (32) 45.1
Austin Barber (39) 73.1
• Devon Manuel (17) 57.5
• Knijeah Harris (41) 56.4
• Bryce Lovett (15) 59.6
• Jake Slaughter (56) 68.7
• Roderick Kearney (3) 65.5
• Damieon George Jr. (47) 62.9
Kam Waites (31) 39.2
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson (31) 52.1

These individual performance rating are an indicator, of ourse. But so much of football is how these guys play as a unit and as a team. You can have 3 offensive linemen making their blocks, but if 2 miss theirs the unit has failed. Same with the defensive line, linebackers and defensive backs. So what if 2 or 3 guys are playing solid 70% of the plays if the rest of their unit is blowing it? As a unit, the offensive and defensive lines sucked. Mertz had his worst game as a Gator, the supposedly new, improved WR group seldom got open, safeties and DB's missed assignements quite a bit. But the worst unit, to me, was the coaching staff - They get an F for game preparation, play calling and in- game adjustments. Very pathetic all the way around. 6 losses in a row for this team and the futire is very dark.

I think Badger could be a nice combo with Wilson if we can get the RT position not to be a 100% turnstile. I wonder what they do there. I think they at least have to go with Dickson over Waites. Dickson struggled also but in the spring game he could at least keep himself in front of who is likely our best pass rusher who isn't real good at it (Sapp).

Holy crap the offensive breakdown videos look bad. The Miami DC was right most of the time Miami was just playing to what we normally try on offense. Even when Miami was 1 on 1 coverage on Wilson we kept doing that short crap to him despite Miami's defense being set up to try and hit him farther down the field. They were even giving the checkdown targets who had no real chance for a 1st down a big cushion hoping we would go to that on the 3rd and 7 type plays.

We only had 39 air yards of receiving this whole game one guy said.

My thing with our offense is we obviously think we’re going to run the ball and hit those short passes and that will open up plays downfield. But whenever we tried shots downfield, they weren’t open and Mertz couldn’t hit them anyway.

Yep he isn't good with deep throws but there is no excuse for Napier not getting Wilson out of that 5 yard box some when you have man coverage. I wonder if there is any other WR talent like that in the whole country with such a low yards per catch number.

Same boring offense Napier ran at his last stop...same simple easy to defend offense that got him fired at Clemson

Hell transfers though not a great haul were 2 of our best players Saturday.. Badger and Howard.
Yep, xfers that were recruited and coached up by someone else is what's best under Napier alright.

But the team results are still 11-15 LOSERS!

In general, NONE of the 50+ players that have bailed out since Dan left were any good at all.

Those few (less than 10) that remain, plus those recruited in or xfered in have produced an 11-15 record so far, so looks like a good deal to me....
🙄

And someone here said that individual performance (PFF) doesn't make a team. All-Team Pearsall stayed,,,, and they went 5-7, so good move......
😎

As a coach, Mullen has coached several notable players, including quarterbacks Alex Smith (Utah), Heisman Trophy-winner Tim Tebow (Florida), Dak Prescott (Mississippi State), and Kyle Trask with a nation-high 4,125 yards and 43 TD's, (Florida).

Dan Mullen. - Career HC Record: 13 Years, 103-61, .628 Win%
3 Seasons at UF and with the Socialist-U Scamdemic = 10-3, 11-2, 5-6 = 26-11, .703 Win%
Napier in 2+ = 11-15 for a .423 Win%

I'd still have rather had Dan and Whittemore (among the many departed others) here last season, but only those with their shinny crystal balls can claim that they know what would have happened, while those that just have two eyes can see what happened instead, LOSERS.....
😛
