GAINESVILLE, Fla. - After helping lead the No. 3/2 Florida softball team to a 6-0 start to the 2025 season, Taylor Shumaker has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, the SEC announced on Monday afternoon.
This is her first SEC Freshman of the Week honor.
Shumaker belted five home runs in six games, going 9-of-18 (.500) at the plate with seven of those nine hits going for extra bases during opening weekend.
She led the Gators in RBI (11), slugging percentage (1.444) and runs scored (11), while recording four walks and three stolen bases.
Shumaker recorded three multi-hit performances in six games: vs. USF (3-for-3), Illinois (2-for-3) and No. 22 Michigan (2-for-2).
She hit two home runs against both the Bulls and the Wolverines and tied a school single-game record with four runs plated against Michigan.
Shumaker is currently tied for most home runs hit in the nation and is the only player to have two multi-home run games.
The outfielder from Fullerton, Calif., is the first Florida freshman to hit two home runs in a regular-season game against a ranked opponent since Megan Bush at No. 17 Georgia on April 12, 2008.
