Recruiting

It's a wonder anybody spends millions on coaching if all it takes is players executing to be a good team. Isn't it funny how some coaches players' seem to always 'execute'? I guess for three straight years Nuss has just been unlucky and keeps getting stuck with these damn players who can't execute. Poor him.

Mc-Collins gets no credit on defense because they are all musclecramp recruited players. o_O
Mc-Nuss obviously can't coach offense because they are all musclecramp recruited players.
And the moe-ronic twits see that as having perfect football logic....

Now oozzz on back to whatever you were 'frothing at the mouth' over....

Well right now --- we are in the lower 50% of SEC recruiting. Our rightful place should be top 4 in SEC recruiting every single year.

CB J.Tabor Sr & CB Q.Wilson Sr (likely E-D's to NFL).
Add MLB A.Anzalone rsSr and DT Caleb Brantley rsSr to likely NFL E-D's.
Likely NFL Grads include: S M.Maye, LB J.Davis, DE B.Cox, DT J.Ivie
I don't see LT D.Sharpe Sr or RB M.Thompson rsSr as E-D's.
Don't see Fullwood, Thompson, Appleby, or Herndon being drafted, maybe FA's though...

Right now before NSD, and not including any W-O's on the 2017 Roster:
Has 14 DB's, 3-4 deep -- Like to see 2 more DB/S's
Has 8 LB's, 2+ deep -- Like to see 2 more LB's
Has 7 DE's, 3+ deep -- Like to see 1 more DE
Has 7 DT's, 3+ deep -- Like to see 1-2 more DT's
Like to see 7 of the 10-12 rest of the 2017 class on defense.
6-7 Def and 4-5 Off to finish the class would fit my bill nicely.
On NSD we'll see...

It looks like another Top 10 in the Nation defense for 2017, IF they work for it. o_O

There are 5 returning scholarship LBs -- that is extremely light -- Anzalone is likely gone and R.J. Raymond (who you threw in there like he was someone we should know) is a walk-on who has never played a snap at LB and never will. So you have 5 returning scholarship LBS and 1, Rayshad Jackson has not shown himself to be SEC quality. So now you're down to 4. 4 returning LBS and 2 incoming true freshman. That is a scary bad level of depth. Depth is also extremely thin at DT and CB. Defense will take a major hit next year.

well with collins gone at least it won't be near as bad as it was about to be with the embarrassing scheme everyone was about to witness.. We were about to turn into OU and other big 12 teams

Will you admit recruiting sucks if we arent filling critical needs and dont have a top 10 class again while half of the top classes are fellow SEC teams in front of us again for a 3rd straight year?

I wonder where Compugator is as he could crunch those numbers pretty fast with Mac and recruiting so far.

Let me slow it down for you simpleton.

You posted the quote from Cleveland, I assume because you agree with it. The implication from his quote being that all players have to do is execute and everything works perfectly. Taken to the extreme, that means coaches have little impact on the game. Just roll the ball out and whoever out-executes the other one wins. So simple! And by supporting that argument, all you're doing is actually diminishing the impact of coaches, which makes your support of 'Mc-Staff' idiotic because your logic says they don't matter. Get it now? No, no you won't.

Dabo gets two top 5 QB's this cycle, and now the #1 next season

hopefully northwestern has a guy that needs to transfer with one year left

Glad Lawrence is going to Clemson instead of UGA, that boy has crazy skills. Fromm who is going to UGA is better than Eason though unfortunately, I've seen him in person.

Isn't recruiting good QBs prohibited by the NCAA? I have to assume so based on my experience as a Gator fan over the past 7 or so years.

who ruined the churches money for our football program? seriously how much more bags do these other programs have than us? Clemson players have literally admitted to getting paid after Orange bowls lol

This pretty well sums it up.

Folly, Musdump and McElteeth have damaged the UF brand so much.

Stricklin needs to have his list up to date and ready to go after next season.

5-Star o-lineman Isaiah Wilson verbeled to Uga.

Yep but people made all kinds of excuses for Mac's second class of recruits not being the level it was with previous UF coaches. Smart kicked butt his first year in recruiting also on short notice.

The coaches are the worst in UF history.
I don't know chit about sports, and football especially.
So, are we all agreed now that UF should fire everyone on the football staff?

And since the idiots in charge can no long hire those that a half dozen of you would approve of, is it okay if UF just goes ahead and shuts down football at UF?

I'm still hoping to turn the SWAMP into an ice-skating and/or hockey rink.... :D

Yep with most of the defense gone he will sink or swim on his offensive success where he owns it 100% now in year 3 with his players. The big drop on defense will be on him also.

I think it breaks top 20 for sure but needs aren't being met and top 20 doesn't mean much when you are 6th in recruiting in your own dang conference.ON NSD

Likely to the NFL - S M.Maye rsSr - CB J.Tabor Jr - CB Q.Wilson Jr

~ Gator's 2017 safeties:
FS Nick Washington 6-0 197 rsSr & SS Marcell Harris 6-1 211 rsSr

CB Marco Wilson 6-0 18
CB Shawn Davis 6-0 190
CB Elijah Blades 6-2 170
Ath Kadarius Toney 6-0 177 (DB/RB)
(all 4 freshmen are 4 stars for those who care)

That's 14 DB's to fill the secondary positions, 3.5 deep.

ILB Kylan Johnson rsSo, ILB David Reese So
OLB Rayshad Jackson rsSo, OLB Vosean Joseph So, Jeremiah Moon rsFr,
OLB Ventrell Miller Fr, OLB James Houston Fr
?? Maybe LB Rahyme Johnson Fr or LB Levi Jones Fr
7 LB's to fill 3 spots, 2+ deep, needs 1-2 more for 2017.
However, UF often plays 2 LB's with 5 DB's, which would make LB 3+ deep.

Likely to the NFL - DT Ivie Sr, DE Cox rsSr, DT Brantley,rsJr

Zachary Carter Fr

DE Jordan Sherit rsSr, DE Justus Reed rsJr, DE Keivonnis Davis Jr
DE Antonneous Clayton So, DE Jordan Smith So

So that's 13 DL'men to cover 4 position spots, 3+ deep.
Additional DL are wanted for 2017 and beyond, but are not critical for the 2017 season.

If any of this is remotely true, my God...

explanatory on why there has to be some staff changes this off season: Now I certainly don’t consider myself an insider in any form of the word, but I have become very good friends with a HS football coach here in FL who from time to time gives me some good inside knowledge of different programs from around the State based on his experience. Was at this coach’s house yesterday and for the first time I flat out asked him, “What do you think of Coach Mac?” He smiled and told me the following story. (I apologize for the lengthy write-up)

This coach is fortunate enough to have a stud QB at his school. The QB is a sophomore this season so recruiting is really starting to pick up. Over summer, the QB got a call from Alabama they told him they were very interested in him and wanted him to come up for a camp. Of course, he said yes. When he arrived, he was greeted at his car by a Bama GA in a golf cart who took him directly to the IPF. There, he was greeted by Lane and proceeded to stretch/warm up for about 30 minutes with Lane talking to him the whole time. He was with a handful of other athletes at this time. After warm ups, him and Lane walked out of the IPF and to another practice field where he threw specifically for Lane. No other QBs were there. After about 30 mins of this, Saban walked up and watched the QB throw and started talking to him. He then invited this kid to his office where they spent the next 2-3 hours chatting one-on-one. Saban said this kid was his #1 target for class of 2019 but that he typically does not offer sophomores and therefore wanted to wait a little bit a see more film out of him. Saban told him that if he continued on the path he was on, he would be getting a Bama offer in the not so distant future.

Fast forward about a week and the QB gets a call from UF (not sure which coach). UF asks him to come up for a camp. The QB agrees but his family is not in town to take him so he asks his coach (my friend) if he would drive him up there, which he of course does. One thing to mention is that my buddy is pretty good friends with Geoff Collins and with our S&C coach due to past relationships. So when they get to UF, they park at the IPF and call the number they were given to call. No answer. They then try to call Coach Collins. No answer. They try for a few minutes and get no response. So they decide just to walk into the IPF. When they walk in there are hundreds of “little” kids camping there. They find Coach Collins and he immediately begins to apologize to them that they forgot they had a youth camp there that weekend and it was crazy. (As a side not, personally I think it’s great that we are holding these youth camps, just not sure that you want to invite a stud QB to the campus on the same weekend.) So after talking for a few minutes with Coach Collins, he tells them to walk over to the stadium, speak with Megan (I think that was the name he said) at the desk and tell her that Coach Collins said you should be given a tour of the facilities. So they do just that. When they find Megan, they tell her what Coach Collins told them. She looks at the list that she has in front of her and says that Coach Collins didn’t put you on the list so I can’t let you in. So disappointed, they ask if they can at least see the weight room as my buddy is interested in seeing if he can find the S&C coach. They are taken to the weight room, find the S&C coach and as they are talking to them a GA walks up and tells them that they need to register for the camp. He tells them that they need to go back upstairs, fill out the registration form and pay the $40 fee. The QB says that he has no money on him. So my buddy ends up paying for him. They then tell the QB that they need his physical to take part in the camp. Well, he doesn’t have one with him. They try to explain that they were invited by the coaching staff personally and weren’t told to bring anything, but they say that he must have one. So my buddy has to drive this QB to the nearest walk-in clinic and get him a physical. Finally, they are registered.

They go back to the IPF and someone tells them that all campers have to do 30 mins of conditioning prior to throwing. The QB says that he really wasn’t prepared to condition for 30 mins and that he thought he was just there to throw a few balls. The GA gets Coach Nuss to come over and introduces him to the QB. Nuss says that everyone has to condition. So the QB conditions. Then Nuss separates the campers and the QB is placed with the freshman and sophomore group. Now mind you, this QB is already a grown man. And now he is throwing with a bunch of “average” freshman and sophomore HS QBs who he towers over by about a foot and he is throwing to a bunch of 5’6” freshman WRs. The QB asks if he could be put in the group with the juniors and seniors. Nuss says no. A few minutes later Coach Mac walks over and says “Are you the (insert last name) boy?” The QB says yes and Mac asks him why he is throwing with the little kids. The QB said he has no idea. Apparently Nuss had no idea who he was or he didn’t seem to care too much. Now again, it would be pretty easy to recognize that this kid is no normal 16 year old. Coach Mac brings him over with the bigger kids and watches him throw a bit. At one point he pulls him over to the side with him, my buddy and Coach Nuss and begins to tell him that he spoke with Saban and Saban thinks very highly of this kid as a QB. And he says that Florida is very much interested in him as well. Nuss steps in and says something to the effect of “well, we really don’t know that much about you so we are still trying to gather a bunch of information.” My buddy said Mac was standing behind Nuss and looked pissed as hell when he said that. Anyway, the day goes on without much else to report.

At the end of the story, my buddy tells me that on the drive to UF that day, out of the blue the QB says that if UF offers today he was going to accept it because the QB wants to play in the SEC and wants to stay in-State. He has had a couple of siblings who went off to play different sports far away from home and it hasn’t always worked out that well or been easy on the family. My buddy is surprised by this comment, but doesn’t say much to try to change his mind. Well when the QB leaves he says, “I don’t care if UF ever offers me, I’m never going there!” He said that it was the worst camping experience he has ever been on and was absolutely miserable the whole time.

On a side note, one of this kids’ first offers was from UCF. I asked my buddy what he and the boy thought about Frost and he said they are both blown away by him. The QB even said that he would seriously consider committing to UCF is it wasn’t for the fact that he knows that Frost will be gone in the next few years.

My buddy said that he actually thinks that Mac is a good guy and could be a good recruiter but there it is very obvious that there is a serious disconnect between Mac and some of the other coaches. He said that until they get stuff straightened out and all are working on the same page, it will be tough for them to pull the elite talent especially when going against a well-oiled machine like Alabama.

"Saban walked up and watched the QB throw and started talking to him. He then invited this kid to his office where they spent the next 2-3 hours chatting one-on-one"

Easy to see why they get the #1 class every year. Can you imagine being a multimillionaire and willingly spending 2-3 hours chatting with a high school sophomore, basically kissing his ass? I'm not sure if I could make it to 15 minutes.

That's an impressive amount of time and effort that Saban is personally investing into connecting with these recruits. Granted, this is a QB, and a single anecdotal story, but it's still impressive.

Anither story i heard is from macs first year visiting a high school. Went to see player and was saying to the coach how he should run his practices and what he should be teaching in a condescending way. He basically told the kid to commit now or he wont have a spot and if he commits he doesnt want him taking other visits. Sad thing is the Gators had not even offered the kid. The coach basically told mac he was not allowed back at the school. Take it for what its worth. I know stories get construed a certain way at times and no i wasnt there but heard from multipel people that this happened. It was a rival to my school.

There were a few ither things but im not typing 8 paragraphs

Just from doing a cursory search, would appear the prospect is Morgan Mitchell. Fascinating story, I wonder how much is actually true and not embellished. For Mac's sake, hope it is embellished.

That sucks, but not unexpected. I think Mac could be a great coach but is self inflicted with the same disease Mark Richt had at UGA. Crappy coordinators. Better see about that illness because eventually it is fatal.

Yep with most of the defense gone he will sink or swim on his offensive success where he owns it 100% now in year 3 with his players. The big drop on defense will be on him also.

Lets face it, next year will be his 3rd straight 4+ loss season and yet people will still be clamoring he just needs 'time' and its unfair to hold him accountable until year 7 or 8
