Keeping up with Brandinomics

I’m in education in Florida and we rarely get raises. I know my personal bills have spiked between electric, gasoline, food especially. I feel this year, An already volatile profession is going to be worse because i have no idea how teachers survive (in An administrator which isn’t lots more pay but it’s a chunk). I also supplement with doing extra side jobs to help. But it’s getting tight.

Maybe others have gotten 10-15% raises over the last year i dunno. But every airport I’ve been to since February has been slammed, flights overbooked and tickets aren’t cheap anymore. I can only imagine people are using CCs to fund these trips, unless I’m incorrect in how raises have gone for non-government folks.

Most police in our area are finally getting a bump in pay so they can finally just be as poor as they were before Biden.

I have a job, and have had this job over 30 years. A job with my fingers on the pulse of our economy. I have no idea what is keeping this economy from falling flat on it's a**. High inflation, high rates, no one getting raises..or not much of one. My guess is..it is VERY close to tanking. The gubment money is starting to run dry. This current path will not last. No way...no how.

I am in total agreement. We now have to calculate gas into an expense for going to gator games and decide if it is something we truly want to go to. We would love to go to McNeese St, but know we will spend 200+ on the game, and have a big weekend next weekend.

My buddy whose in education said with inflation and the lack of raises, our current salary is about 4k less than what it was 10 years ago....We are financially fine (my family) but we have had to tighten up. Even shopping at stores like WalMart and Aldis is getting expensive smh.

Under Trump, milk was 98 cents a gallon, eggs were 38 cents a dozen, bread was $1.00 a loaf.

Under Biden, milk is $2.72 a gallon, eggs are 98 cents a dozen, bread is $1.34 a loaf.

That's for the cheapest option. Milk has tripled in price, eggs almost have, and bread is up 34%. I honestly don't see how those in poverty are making it.

It has to tank. Long term that's the only way it ever gets healthy again.

Gov't money is like a sugar high. It's great for a little while but the crash sucks.

I have to share a "funny"story. I wanted badly to pull my investments out and make them safe in late 2007 and EVERYONE advised against me doing it. My decision...I stayed...and got killed. The day Trump won in 2016, I called my man and had him go very aggressive on my portfolio. I KILLED it back. As 2020 was shaping up, at almost 60 I wanted to go safe because I thought there was a slight chance Brandon would win. Called my guy up and asked for him to put everything in the money market. Well, after the election was stolen, stock market kept rising and rising. I was PISSED because my guy argued with me to stay...and I made him move it safe. Mid 2021 I was buying my home, and explored pulling a large amount out for DP on the house. My guy said....Hmmmm I bet you are happy(with my investments) and I immediately said F*** YOU to him. He was like..WHAT?? Anyway...he told me he did not move my money...and I made a VERY large sum of money. Well...I was PISSED...for about 4 seconds. I still have never said anything to him about it .

I just had a really sad interaction at lunch.

I go to a grocery store chain (Martin's) most days who has a salad bar. It's never a low cal salad, but it's better for me than Chick-Fil-A.

Anyway, a younger (than me) woman is on the phone asking someone to send her $10 on their cash app. She said something about not understanding how she never make it to the next paycheck...she doesn't drink, etc. She had a young teenager with her. She was clean and didn't look like she was on drugs.

Anyway, as I walk off she's ending the call and it sounded like the other line was not able to help her. She was asking for $10 freaking dollars.

My heart sank and I put down my salad and headed to the ATM near the entrance. As I turned around she was leaving empty handed, I gave her $20 and she started crying.

I almost did too. Broke my heart.

It's killing me. Under Trump, I worked full time and my wife worked part time. Not rich but we paid the bills on time and had a little left over each month. Now, I work full time and have a part time 2nd job. She works full time. The CCs are nearly maxed out. Savings nearly depleted. And most months I am having to wait a week + for the next pay day to get bills paid late. FJB.

And stories like yours are used by Biden to claim "record job growth".

When hard working people need multiple jobs to keep from drowning, that's not "growth".

Enough people share your story and are mad as hell, they'll have to suspend the election or cheat more egregiously than in 2020 to stay in power.

28%...but it's important to note that there have been no raises for 3 years.

It will make it possible to raise a family if you're willing to have a side hustle.
Maybe that’s what non government jobs get. Kudos to everyone. I honestly was just wondering how everyone can afford all the trips and business airports are. It’s possible everyone gets raises yearly. Education in Florida is far from it. Maybe a bonus, maybe a retention bonus but hardly ever substantial raises.

But i do have side hustles that i don’t mind doing currently. But i know down the road I’ll be ready for a break from all that.

In Texas we shop for electricity. It just keeps going up. I'm on the 3rd of a 3 month deal. Last month I paid 12.6 cents per kWh. This final month the Texas PUC stepped in and let Power companies raise rates. My bill from Tara Energy today shows 13.1 cents per kWh.

Texas rates can be tracked by zip code at powertochoose.org.
