Is it just me or are we assembling a staff or what?!

Location: New York (likely suffering from winter brain freeze)
Awful staff, will be exposed quickly. I give the staff less than 3 years before fired!

Forget the stars and the rankings at positions, as good as they are, and just look at the schools/coaches that offered.

That's across the board and at all of the positions that UF signed.
Apparently many Top Quality recruits don't agree with this twit.
~ Most of UF's new staff have previous experience as either HC's or as O or D coordinators. Also SEC and/or NFL experience.

Fan lays alley-oop to Mullen with joke about McElwain's dog
Jim McElwain and Doug Nussmeier officially became punch lines for the Florida fans at Dan Mullen's speaking tour stop in Orlando on Wednesday night.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Florida coach Dan Mullen has been a natural on the spring speaking trail, drawing rowdy responses from fans with his quick wit and good-natured humor.

But he might have hit his best line yet, courtesy of an alley-oop for the ages by a fan.

Near the end of Mullen's speech in Orlando on Wednesday night, a fan got to the microphone and had a two-part question for him.

"Hey coach, Welcome back to Florida. Quick questions for you. First one is 'do you have a dog named Claire-a-bell?'" the fan asked.

As fans began to laugh, Mullen responded somewhat incredulously.

"A dog? I have a dog named Heisman."

The room exploded with laughter, having a good time at former coach Jim McElwain's expense. McElwain, of course, won fans over with his confidence early on in his tenure when he said at his opening press conference that he believed he could win with his dog playing quarterback.

Of course, after three years of poor quarterback play, that turned into a running jibe at McElwain.

So naturally the ensuing question from the fan was even more pointed.

"All right. The next question is you can get into your playbook and this and that, just promise me on 2nd and 9 it won't be a running play."

As fans laughed again, Mullen smiled and answered.

"We'll have some fun in what we do," Mullen said. "Like you've seen me call plays. I Jedi mind-trick people. Right? Like I used to back in the day I'd have like, Tebow would run out and we'd run a quarterback play, then I'd run a quarterback run without him.

"I did have a great call in the 2006 SEC Championship Game. You probably don't remember. We're driving against Arkansas later in the game. (Tim) Tebow goes out and runs a play. I pull him out and it's 3rd down and 8. I run Chris Leak out there and call a quarterback draw and he just walks into the end zone. Because they're like 'this guy's not dumb enough to take Tebow out and put Chris in for a running play.'"

It's safe to say that Mullen has won the fans over early on. Of course, the results still have to show on the field on Saturdays, but it's hard to ask for more from the new Florida coach so far.

I'm fine with anybody that wants to shit on McElwain.
Lol...honestly sadgator gets the impression that Mullen couldn’t give a rat’s ass less about Mac one way or the other. Mullen doesn’t seem to have the desire to take the time to crap on anyone else. He just seems totally engaged, excited, and dedicated to be building something that is his vision.

That is on of the signs of a successful, confident, and secure individual.

And now.... Back to the thread topic...

Florida adds support staff
Mullen has made another recruiting hire for his support staff.

David Bowen is now with the program as a recruiting specialist, a position he held under Mullen at Mississippi State. He is the latest addition to Florida’s recruiting team, which includes director of recruiting operations Lee Begley, director of player personnel E.K. Franks and assistant directors of player personnel Cordell Landers and Otis Yelverton.

Mullen isn’t done adding to his support staff.

“We might have one or two more come in,” he said when asked about Bowen. “Administratively, we have the coaching staff in place. But there will be a couple more as we go. I’m not rushing to get every one of those things in place. I have a vision for how I want the program to run.

"I have a vision for how I want the program to run." -- Dan Mullen

The football staff tracks every player on the team and provides scores in a variety of categories such as grades, class attendance, punctuality, proper nutrition and more. A board in the locker room displays points won and lost on a daily basis. Team standings are updated periodically.

"You can lose points for everything. If you are one minute late for a tutor, that just gets rid of points for your team,'' said Raymond, a walk-on who has played fullback, linebacker and special teams in his career. "It forces everybody to be accountable, which then relates to plays on the field and stuff like that. Literally, everything counts. It's just making everyone accountable for everything they do in their life."

"It's discipline and doing every little thing the right way," Mullen said. "Anybody can do things right some of the time, but to be a champion you have to do things right all the time."

iG's Comment: I'm a long time fan of Orson Scott Card's 'Ender's Game,' (the book, not the movie), so I like this a lot!
~~ Gator Team = Dragon Army -- And Andrew Wiggin makes one helluva roll model if you want to win...

Nick Savage working them out, (of the old and into the new) and then back in.

WR Josh Hammond - +7 LBs, down 3% body fat.

QB Feleipe Franks - +LBs (227 - 235), dropped body fat 2%.

DE Jachai Polite - the same, gaining Wt. dropping body fat.

ILB David Reese - Also seeing his body fat dropping.

And overall there’s a lot of comments like this one from LT Martez Ivey who has already shown a quicker step in practice; “I feel a lot stronger. Just running, running as well as feeling a little bit more conditioned.”

Those kinds of number changes are happening in a short time and team wide.
-- And so by Sept, those changes should make a considerable difference in the overall team.

While some others have constantly ragged on some of the past Gator QB's, (J.Brantlley and J.Driskel in particular), I've been wanting a WR's coach that would coach them up and then hold them accountable. The QB can't throw it, and then run down the field and catch it too... The receivers have too often not helped out the QB's, especially the young QB's, by being blanketed downfield.

Spurrier had Dwayne Dixon.
Meyer had Billy Gonzales.
Muschamp and McElwain had mostly crapppola imo.
And the same can be said for the recent / previous TE coaches.

So I'm pretty happy to have BillyG back in hog-town to coach up the receivers again. :)

"Watching film from last year and so far right now, we've got to develop an attitude of when someone comes up and plays me man-to-man, we should be foaming at the mouth ready to go and excited about that," Gonzales said. "I don't get that sense right now. I want to get that sense by the end of spring ball." To further motivate his group, Gonzales hands out daily grades to players that are visible to everyone. (accountability in action)

~ And hopefully Larry Scott will do the same for the TE's.

Gonzales has been pleased with the way his players have responded thus far but wants to see continued growth throughout the spring. It's a matter of consistency, the lack of which has plagued the Gators' receiving corps since Gonzales departed in 2009.

(iG)
If you can't get off the press at the line, you can't play.

If you can't run a solid route and get some separation, you can't play.
If you can't catch the ball and then hold on to it while being hit, you can't play.
IF you can't or won't block downfield when you don't have the ball, then you won't play....

You have an awful lot of kids showing UGA offers who weren't recruited. Jones, Pierce, Pitts, Gourage, Reese nor Langham were never recruited by UGA and if they had an offer couldn't commit, Pierce tried twice. Dean could have early but missed his chance. As long as you been around you would think you understood a kid could claim an offer from a school and the school couldn't say anything.

Why would we want Jones with Fields committed and who was Mullen's first choice, Pierce when we had White and Cook, Reese is a good player but we signed 5LB in Cox,Anderson, Walker, O.Reese, Tindall, why would recruit him? PIttman doesn't recruit 275 OT, The only one on that list who could have ever committed to UGA was Dean and he was so wishy washy he got dropped.

I don't follow the word of 18 year old kids anymore... being a recruitnik is a waste of precious life minutes.

I do know from past experiences that recruit networks such as Rivals, Scout, 247, ESPN, etc actually see some proof of an offer letter. Was that way back in the day anyway.

Besides, UGly always gets every recruit that they want, while UF just takes the leftovers that they didn't ever offer or want. And that's why the nuttlickin' buttsniffers have owned the W/L record vs UF for the last 25 years.... DOH!!!

When Igloo posts the above opinion that he is glad Jimbo is gone, he can support it with his past posts on the matter. After Jimbo once again lost to a coupla overmatched ACC teams in the 2016 season, the scales dropped from his eyes. So he is about the only other FSU fan that can credibly say he is glad Jimbo is gone, with the possible exception of kelly. (I am not including FSU numbers because he is a cretin and nearly not worth mentioning.)

Nolebra Kai, hardliner, uninformed, danoleman, METSWIN, Dr Nole and a host other semi fans were slurping Jimbo pangus right up to the first few 2017 Jimbo losses.

It is quite amusing to go back and bttt their old posts.
I miss MJ.

That is all.

RIP
