Illinois is now entering the Purge

Which is weird. They believe he existed, they believe he was sacrificed on the cross and they believe he is currently ruling the heavenly kingdom. And allegedly they got all this from the same Bible as everyone else.

From JW.ORG:

We believe in Jesus, who said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) We have faith that Jesus came to earth from heaven and gave his perfect human life as a ransom sacrifice. (Matthew 20:28) His death and resurrection make it possible for those exercising faith in him to gain everlasting life. (John 3:16) We also believe that Jesus is now ruling as King of God’s heavenly Kingdom, which will soon bring peace to the entire earth. (Revelation 11:15) However, we take Jesus at his word when he said: “The Father is greater than I am.” (John 14:28) So we do not worship Jesus, as we do not believe that he is Almighty God.

Put simplisticly, it's a church of the works. You must earn your way into Heaven, which also has a limited seating capacity (140k if I'm not mistaken).

Christians, by my definition at least, do not believe it is possible for one to "earn" salvation. You can attain it through your faith in Jesus but you cannot earn it.

So that's your final answer on the faith versus works debate? It was my understanding that works was where the protestant work ethic was derived from.

We believe that the human brings NOTHING to the table. We are totally dependant on the sacrafice of the cross for salvation, we need only to accept it. Works are the FRUITS of a saved man. This is my understanding

In fact, many believe it to be heresy and sinful pride to believe that you can earn your way. This is my point of view.

As I said, my answer was simplistic. However, I've never heard of a Protestant, of any denomination, that believes that one can earn salvation.

Conversely, I've heard MANY sermons that specifically stated that you absolutely CANNOT earn salvation.

Not going to put words in Docs mouth but I was lead to believe you can't get saved and then go back to being an asshole you have to strive to be be sinless.

It was also my understanding that the only unforgivable sin was "blasphemy of the Holy Spirit."

So I'm not sure what the rules are on heresy.

Mine as well. Our behavior should reflect our faith but good deeds won't punch your ticket.

I've known many Christians who have lost their way who later returned to their faith. You don't run out of chances...as long as you're alive.

And no one is irredeemable. Every living person has the capacity to find their way to Heaven.

So there is a difference between a self identified Christian that sit in the church pue every Sunday, and someone who is saved. Someone who truely knows Christ, carries on a relationship with Him through prayer and worship. These people truely LOVE Christ ( as humans understand love, falls way short of Gods love ) and broken and grieved by the fact that we are sinners. These people truely and deeply want to turn away from sin, although all will fall short. They dont use Church and parayer as a weekly get out of jail free card to go live the way they want to Monday-Saturday. They recognize that sin is truely as bad as picking up he hammer and driving the nail through Christs hand. Someone who has been saved does good works because they want to please God because they love Him, and want to obey

The most common silly redemption debate...Could Hilter have been saved and made his way into Heaven?

The answer is yes, of course.

However (and this type of judgment truly isn't my purview but I'll walk out on that limb) there's just no way that someone could be that evil and not make changes to his life to expunge said evil from his life while being an actual Christian as opposed to claiming to be one.

FTR, Hitler did not claim to be a Christian for the vast majority of his life.

Yeah. I don't engage in the Hitler stuff. However, I know that murderous theif that hung a cross next to Jesus Christ converted on the cross and Christ told him that they would be together that day in Paradise

yeah that's what my ol lady did.

All Christians have, at least to some extent.

BTW, when I was in college, I was getting ready to go out with some friends. I hopped out of the shower when I heard them knocking on the door.

To be funny (and to be gross and creep them out) I opened the door, naked AF, dripping from the shower. Unfortunately it was a few Mormons and not my friends who were knocking on the door.

I actually invited them in. For whatever reason, they declined. 😂

I've done that. It was intentional though.

I hope it turns out to be your new neighbors instead of Mormons. 😂
My neighbors all know me as the crazy guy with bat like hearing who yells at people for sitting on his AC unit and talking on the phone while waiting for their ride.

My legend increased when I held a car thief at gun point til the deputies arrived, then was taken into custody myself for being mouthy, then released when the shift supervisor showed up because I've known him for twenty five years and was in the Marines with me.

Errrrrbody knows me.

I'm surprised FEDEX still knocks.

I arrested a guy for this and charged him with kidnap 2nd x3 and menacing x3.

Of course he wasn't at his own house, he was at theirs, high as giraffe balls and thought he was home. It was 3 teenagers about to get into their own vehicle.

The moron fought it in court and argued intent. He lost.

BEST STORY EVER.

Wasn't my car it was my neighbor Bryant's truck.

But I was still mad because they got my motorcycle in July.

Guy plead guilty so it didn't matter.

My guy also had his pants around his ankles. No one knows why. The kids say they were down when he approached them. He just penguin walked up their driveway with his pants down.

oh so they don't believe in the holy spirit either???

They don't. No Jesus, no Holy Spirit.

They believe that God must be referred to as Jehovah.

They believe that Jesus was created by Jehovah as the archangel Michael prior to the creation of the world.

They believe that Jesus is a lesser god. The use of the lowercase g is absolutely intentional.

They believe that when Jesus was born on Earth that he was a mere human in flesh and that his resurrection was spiritual only, not a physical resurrection.

The part that gets me is their source is the Bible.

There's no amount of mental gymnastics that can arrive at that conclusion even from a non believer.

It's there. In the book. Multiple times.

So what I've decided is Jw is to Christianity what Hare Krishnas are to Hinduism.

Plus they will take donated organs, but not whole blood, ffp, or plasma. Which is insane.

They absolutely ignore the inconvenient parts of the Bible. It’s an odd sect and a cult imho. **more accurately it's a church of the works...and that's about money in my experience.

I'm ignorant when it comes to Hinduism and Hare Krishnas.

The Hare Krishnas are some weird AF folks. They've got a commune in Alachua just on the edge of the city limits. For years they drove into Gainesville and recruited students, many times outside the gates of the end zone during football games. They indoctrinate people, take all over their worldly possessions and make them monks of some sorts. They been at this for decades at this one particular location.

My knowledge of them barely extends beyond their scene in the movie Airplane.

They used to go to the UF campus and serve gruel to anyone who was hungry and listen to their propaganda. A friend of mine who was a student there said he'd go there and get a meal when he ran out of money, 😂

Let me regale you then, with the mythos of my people.

There are three planes of existence.
The Heavens, populated by the gods and the devas.

The Earth, populated by us.

The Underworld, populated by Shiva and the asuras.

For practical purposes the devas are angels and the asuras are demons, but don't perform the same functions.

Crux of the matter is you can't go to earth as a God. Have to go in human form.

Enter the avatars. Yes, that's our word Spielberg.

The God Vishnu, the preserver in our "trinity" has come to earth to save humanity 9 times.

Krishna was time number 8. But he's shown up as a tortoise. And a fish and a boar once too.

Buddha is number 9, and when he shows up for the tenth time as Kalki the world ends and the cycle starts over.

The point is Krishna isn't God, he's an aspect of the divine. Heck, Brahma, the creator in our trinity isn't worshipped and has no temples because he cheated in a race one time. That's another story.

Plus they are dirty hippies and embarassing.

I can't think of a Christian equivalent. Maybe if someone read the Bible and decided to worship Saint John.
