I guess it pays to have friends in high places. A lot of close losses but also constantly losing to lesser recruiting teams than Nebraska. I think contrary to what many people think Nebraska is only out recruited by OSU, Michigan and Penn State in the Big 10.

Building a program takes time. There's only one team that stays on top year in and year out. That's Alabama.

Any top program would fire someone with that bad of a record after 4 years. Maybe Nebraska isn't a big football power anymore but being friends with Alberts paid off here.

Most coaches would most certainly get fired. I think Frost is going to hang on for 1 more year.

Looking solely at losses is shortsighted and does not tell the picture of what is occurring at Nebraska…

but that is what we do on message boards…

Imo it clearly warrants his firing as he is still consistently losing to mediocre teams in year 4 with his own players in place. I think a move like this after year 4 with all four years being bad losing seasons just makes it likely even if you get a rebound 8-4 type year 5 that you are just dragging things out.

Trying to think in modern times has a coach at a power 5 school ever started this poorly his first 4 years and rebounded to make the team a strong contender for years after that. Swinney had a bad 2nd season at Clemson but then had a steady rise to the national championship. Maybe going back a ways Frank Beamer but even he was above .500 in year 3 and 4.

I read earlier that Mullen will not be fired this year, so it sounds like he’ll be the HBC at least another year.

While I want Dan to get one more year....do these ever work out?

When you say a coach has 1 more year....doesn't that kill staffing and recruiting?

Depends on how the team responds the rest of this year and next season. If they show some fight and pride in their performance, I would say not necessarily. Saturday night's performance reminded me of Zook's last gasp in StarkeVegas, but 10 times worse. The locker room is broken. Maybe they will respond. There is talent on this team, but it's squandered by lack of effort and lack of discipline. The LSU thrown shoe lives in infamy forever.

This is an excellent question. Are there any examples where a coach was on the hot seat and he survived?
