Outside of what anybody says, I believe firmly that Billy put his tombstone in the dirt last night. Will we fire him this week? No. He will be the head coach at the University of Florida through game 12. He has plenty of opportunities to turn things around and go on a tear. But will he? No. He’s been digging his grave for the past couple years, last night he put the finishing touches on it. Horrific play calling along with Questionable coaching decisions have plagued the Gators for far too long. With that being said, I see 2 names tossed around more than anyone. Franklin and Kiffin. My honest question to everyone who believes Franklin is the guy is Who’s ceiling is actually higher? Franklin has spent 11 years at Penn St. He has won 4 Bowl games. You read that right. 11 Years, 4 bowl wins. That’s not what we’re looking for in Gainesville and we all know that. You cannot argue that that Penn St doesn’t pull the same talent that UF does. That’s just not true. Franklin has all he needs to win at PSU. Not saying Kiffin is a sure hire, but if the UAA wants to win this fanbase back, Kiffin is how they do it. As for myself, I feel like we have one option and one option only. HIRE THE WINNER IN THE SEC. Penn State plays in the Big 10. Who else in the Big 10 are good football teams outside of OSU/Mich? Franklin has won 1 Big 10 championship. 11 Years, 4 bowl wins, 1 Conference Championship and a Rape scandal. What Kiffin has built at Ole miss has been nothing shy of remarkable based on the talent pool he has to work with. You cannot base his success off of a couple losses his year. However, he’d be willing to leave it all to win a National Championship, which is what he is capable of at the University of Florida.

Billy coming back next week like:
Im Back Wake Up GIF

It’s funny to me that so many people are judging OM this season like they have Bama or UGA talent. Did they spend money in the portal yep. But that’s just money that was moved around by not having good HS recruiting at OM.

He has a team talent index in the 20s but let’s demand he makes the playoffs lol.

No, I'm judging them by the talent they have vs other SEC teams who have comparable talent. They've scored fewer TDs in 3 SEC games than Vandy and Miss State.

I'm not demanding he make the playoffs, but I don't think it's too much to put a better product on the field than Vandy? Or UK? Or is that too much?

And we're judging HC's by bowl wins, in this opt out environment? Penn State had 2 first round picks opt out of their most recent bowl game. FSU had 4 top 60 picks opt out of their bowl game. Mullen had 2 first round picks opt out of a bowl game vs OU.

Bowl games have never been more meaningless then the last couple of years.

I don't think anyone is saying don't hire Lane because he's 2-2 in bowl games.

Lane has a senior laden team also. Hard to get buy in from players when you jump from team to team yourself
Agree. Living and dying by the portal is tough when you bring in a bunch of one year rentals and try to assemble a team. I’m not making excuses but you either catch lightning in a bottle like FSU did or it can be the opposite.

You should all hope to the God of Christmas that James Franklin would consider coming to this dumpster fire.

And by the way: where is the Franklin stuff coming from? Why would you leave Happy Valley (after a successful run) to leave and be the next in a long line or recent coaches at UF.

Can someone kindly explain ?

Yeah I’ve never heard he’s interested. I know he has a house here and some ties but uprooting his family when he has teenagers might be tough.

Lane might actually want to get out of Oxford. Two totally different situations. What does UF offer that PSU doesn’t?

I would say stability and a good administration.

PSU doesn’t hire a new coach every 3-4 years

Love UF but I wouldn’t want any part of it until there’s some major changes at the top

I don't see either as the bad ass, hunter killer coach we need if we want to challen GA, AL, Texas, TAMU, LSU.

We need to be more thorough. Or we will be providing retirement security for yet another coach.

I can’t explain the “why.” I can only say that I think some insiders have said he has interest. How much interest is unknown.

“So you say there’s a chance…”

Cignetti is a much better option than Kiffin

Cignetti has won everywhere. His record is impressive.

The question I would have about him is, what is his strategy for managing NIL and the portal? He has never had to do that, and as much as I hate it, it’s a big piece of talent acquisition right now. I don’t want another guy who needs to learn how to navigate all that here. I don’t want to keep waiting around for somebody to figure out how to make it work. Any coach considered for this job needs to have a plan in place for managing these critical aspects of today’s game. There are a lot of things I don’t like about Kiffin, but at least he has done it, and done it in the SEC. That can’t be downplayed IMO

The reality is, that’s what you have to do at Ole Miss if you want any chance to compete

agree wholeheartedly with OP
The fact that people are talking even about Ole Miss, competing for an SEC championship or making a spot in the playoff is pretty incredible in my opinion, and a testament to what Lane has been able to do there

Right now Vandys coach is outperforming them all

Billy posted his tombstone day 1.
Didn’t worry about recruiting, made people send in workout tapes, 2 OL coaches with him as OC.
I’m no genius, far from it, but I was blown away and not in a good way with his initial press conference.
No sense of urgency, no killer instinct, etc.
I will always root for the Gators and whomever is coaching but damn, huge red flags day 1

Less little boy rape for starters. I’m not a fan of Franklin for the record

Clark Lea is 13-29 as a head coach. Before this season he was on the hot seat at friggin Vandy. (2-10, 5-7 and 2-10 before this year).

Cignetti has coached 6 games in the big 10.

Man have we become desperate. At least on the board.

I believe we need a GM whom ever comes in. Indiana is not UF, and although Cignetti is crushing it everywhere he’s been, he will need someone to help navigate him through some of the management of the program, NIL included.

There isn’t a bandaid to fix the wound Billy has opened. He won all these close games ag Lousiana, and is losing them here. His conservativeness, lack of situational play calling was not highlighted there and it’s glaring at UF. The team is playing hard for him, seems like the defense is playing much better, regardless how good we think Tennessee was or wasn’t. If someone told us Tennesee would only have scored 17 points in regulation, I don’t think anyone thinks we lose Saturday night.

I think after this week the schedule gets gloomy for 2 weeks but I think we can beat the last 3 teams on our schedule. Especially fsu. Worst case scenario is gators finish 6-6 or 7-5 and we have another year of subpar results or “almost good enough” record.

It’s insane how high the bar is set for Kiffin when his talent is closer to Kentucky than LSU. Then people will spend all day cherry picking stats to drag him.

So what stats should we look at?

Don't get people infatuated by Lane. Yes, he is an excellent O coordinator, play caller, QB coach. Yes, he's a wise ass that remind some of SOS. but SOS won big at the Bandits and won an ACC championship at freaking DOOK. My concerns about Kiffen are his apparent disinterest in HS recruiting and reliance on portal. Sustained success requires exceptional HS recruiting and development using the portal to "supplement" not roster build. Just like the NFL....best teams consitently draft well.

Living and building your roster in the portal is just not sustainable imo. You have to do Both HS recruit and fill gaps.
