Start of 3rd qtr - Arkansas takes kickoff & goes 75 yards in 9 plays & 3 minutes - per Mick.

When you combine that with the

Mike Woods on a 47-yard bomb down the right sideline.
Trelon Smith 83 yard breakaway / breakdown TD
Mike Woods 83-yard touchdown grab.

Gator Defense not getting any better.

Go Grantham !

Weird game

Florida dominating, but Arkansas has had one good drive only

And three really long TDs

Cosmetic ass kicking

Last time I looked, explosive TD plays count the same as well engineered drives & are far more demoralizing !

"...The big busted plays are perhaps the most concerning thing. Too often Florida is simply out of position or on the wrong page defensively, making it all way too easy for the (opposing) offense."

"We were happy we got the win but obviously we know there’s some things we have to clean up," Carter said.

DUH !

"I think we just need to clean up a few things," safety Donovan Stiner said. "Little things that can make big plays. I think we need to stay consistent, no missed assignments and things like that, because as you see, one missed assignment can resul in a big play." -

No Sh ** it !

Gator Defense has been on clean up patrol since 1st game with ole Miss; doubt they will ever get it done with Grantham as DC !

"...Bad angles, poor technique and lack of focus led to big plays, something that has become a theme for this Florida defense now six games into the season."

"...The Gators have four weeks to get right, but many of the issues continue to look like a combination of personnel issues and lack of confidence, along with questionable coaching."

https://247sports.com/college/flori...n-for-UF-explosive-plays-a-problem-154806505/

"...Forget the (Arkansas) 35-point total as that included some garbage-time touchdowns against a second-string defense. The biggest issue Saturday night is that Florida allowed three potentially game-changing explosive plays: an 83-yard rushing touchdown and receiving touchdowns of 82 and 47 yards. If Franks had made the correct read on another play in the first quarter, there would have been an additional explosive touchdown on the evening. No team can survive with its defense getting gashed like that.

Now, one could argue that there was an uncalled holding penalty on one of those touchdowns and an uncalled offensive pass interference on another. To put it bluntly, shit happens, and those are just excuses that don’t change much in the long run. The Gators have made some improvements defensively. Namely, the pass rush has stepped up massively with senior defensive tackle Kyree Campbell creating push inside and redshirt junior defensive end Zachary Carter coming into his own. Florida had four sacks and eight tackles for loss on the evening along with a touchdown return off a fumble recovery by Carter.

However, the secondary remains a liability." Despite being DBU !

The always over-looked fact:
Mullen's offense and Grantham's defense are 26-6 (.813) in 2.5 seasons.
An aggressive attacking defense is going to give up the occasional 'Big Play' but there are positive benefits too. Being a year to year Top 10 D in the Nation is one of them.

Now, if Dan could just be as football smart as some here pretend to be, instead of being the clueless twit that he obviously is, then he'd fire Grantham instead of increasing his title with the addition of Ast.HC plus getting him a nice fat raise..... 🤓

DC-Ast. HC - Todd Grantham and his terrible '3rd and Grantham' defensive system:

"Florida's defense limited Missouri and Georgia to 262.5 yards per game, a turnaround that featured the return of DT Kyree Campbell, plus the return of SDE Zachary Carter in the 2nd half against Georgia."

Now let me see,,,, they were both/all using Grantham's incompetent '3rd & Grantham' defensive system weren't they??? ----- Some seem to want to blame Grantham, while ignoring the 'Jimmies & Joe's portion of that equations, while they also ignore the resulting W/L record that comes with it... 😏

"The discussion around Campbell's significance added a partner this week in fourth-year junior defensive tackle Zachary Carter. Campbell and Carter played together in the first half against Missouri and the second half against Georgia. In those four quarters, Florida allowed one offensive touchdown, 229 total yards (115 rushing, 114 passing) and 3.8 yards per rush."

~~ Sacks vs Ark/Franks:

SDE Carter - 1
OLB Burney - 1

DT Campbell - .5
ILB Miller - .5

OLB Hooper - .5
OLB Umanmielen - .5
(some of the future defense being trained now)

~~ Plus the Grantham D had 8 TFL split up between 9 different players

Defense relies too much on Trask outscoring the other team like he's been doing.

The defensive play this year has been pathetic. There simply isn't any excuse for a team with this many talented players performing as poorly as they have. The points and yard per game speak for themselves.

I’m just concerned about receivers consistently getting behind the secondary. The run defense has definitely improved (with the exception of a couple of big play which could also be attributed to deep guys out of position).

While the 26-6 W/L record over the first 2.5 seasons, with mostly the last guys players, doesn't mean a thing I guess....

“I think systematically we’re always going to be high in TFLs and sacks,” Grantham told the Florida media this week. He knows his group should be near the top of the pack and they are tied with Texas A&M with 40 tackles-for-loss or 6.67 per game. His guys lead in sacks with a slim lead over Georgia with 19 sacks or 3.17 per game.

In the 4th game, DT Campbell is back, so Carter can return to SDE, and Cox can then move back to Buck/WDE. The system remains the same, but now the players are moved back to their best positions.

Look insta, you were right about Trask. But there's no sugar coating this defense. Even throwing out the stats, the secondary is horrid. They don't pass either the eye or sniff test. At this point it's hard to say if it's coaching or players. The talent that usually enters Gainesville tells me it's the former, not the latter.

No. 6 Florida gave up 406 yards to Vanderbilt, looked lost at times on defense and once again was victim of the big play. It's a recurring theme for the Gators at this point, but slow starts from the defense are no longer surprising.

Still, it was a handful of familiar faces that seemed to struggle against the Commodores. Nickelback Brad Stewart was torched a few times early on key downs. Safeties Shawn Davis and Donovan Stiner took bad angles on a simple post to receiver Chris Pierce that went for a 58-yard touchdown as both missed tackles. The Gators just generally weren't very impressive in a 38-17 win on Saturday.

Elam was also victimized by the Commodores, giving up a 16-yard touchdown pass on the first drive of the game to Pierce.

Florida wasn't set well defensively on the play, another recurring problem for the defense. With players communicating poorly, Elam wasn't aligned properly and Pierce made short work of him, getting inside on the post for an easy score, despite Elam making a strong effort to break things up late.

"On that touchdown I gave up, I was looking over, the whole defense was looking over for the play," Elam said. "They were going fast. My linebacker called me over, because the tight end lined up out and the wide receiver lined up in. But we're too busy looking for the play so we didn't get (to) communicate, get lined up and they already snapped the ball. So I had to try my best to get the ball.

No reason to believe in the defense:
Whether you want to place the blame on defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, the players or a combination of both, it’s clear the Gators defense is unlikely to resemble or grow into anything that can be considered trustworthy this season.

After taking advantage of bad quarterbacking for multiple weeks, Florida reverted to its normal self defensively against Vanderbilt. UF allowed 406 yards of offense and 8 of 16 conversions on third and fourth down. The Commodores frequently made big plays on third-and-long, including a 58-yard for their lone score of the second half.

Seals was 22 of 34 for 319 yards and two touchdowns & one Int.

Florida forced just one turnover in the game, an interception from Kaiir Elam in the end zone late in the fourth quarter to preserve the 21-point margin.

Elam followed up his interception with a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for excessive celebration - Kaiir, just throw the ball back to the ref.

As Stephen Orr Spurrier, Heisman Trophy winner & former National Championship coach of the Gators used to say -
"Act like you've been there before ! "

The Gators desperately need to get better at tackling. Teams have been the beneficiary all year of Florida failing to bring down ball carriers and receivers, but Saturday might have been the worst effort we’ve seen. It didn’t really matter who it was, either. The defense just couldn’t get guys on the ground and Vanderbilt took full advantage, keeping this game way closer than anyone expected

That's if you ignore that the DC has had a Top 10 D in his 1st 2 seasons while using McLames recruits. The safeties are the obvious problem imo and I've been calling for playing the young guys more from the get-go. But to be fair, I don't know if that's on the DC or the HC on loyalty to the upperclassmen. Grantham's system has more than proven to be effective, so I'm going with the players being the current problem.

Get out of this pandemic fraud and on to next season, and then we will all get our answers as to the questions of coach/system/players.... 🤓

PS -- Navi, Trask is not the 1st or only thing that I've ever been correct on. ;)
