GDP grew at a 6.9% pace to close out 2021, stronger than expected

The calm before the storm, Sir.
Sure, CPI will likely be ugly tomorrow morning, everyone already knows that expectations aren't for inflation to start moderating until later this year. Shouldn't have much of an effect on anything, especially since the FED doesn't even use CPI when considering policy since it's a poor reflection of actual consumer spending.

What happened in 2020 that caused productivity to rise?

Hint: It was something historic.
There was definitely a very very large increase in covid/medical supplies being produced: masks, gloves, sanitizer, colorox, alcohol, ventilaters, etc. Some by companies that never produced that type of product in the past. Wonder why????

Did I claim it was partisan. Nope just dumb. There are many jobs that were lost due to productivity and never recovered. And guess what, if those people were smart they found other, higher paying jobs.

Here’s a few.

Farmers
Typewriter manufacturers
Ditch diggers
Photo processors
Secretary pools
Phone operators
Coal miners
TV repairman

Shall I go on?
Oh, your one of those types. We don't need farmers becasue we get our food at the grocery store. Got it.

All those types of jobs are necessary. Of course, you don't need as many photo processors or phone operators, in the traditional sense, as you did 20 years ago. If you ever ran a business like you claimed, you would know that you need good secretaries and other administrative personal. And as of right now, about 20% (numbers varies) of our energy is produced by burning coal.

Exactly....vaccines as well. Big Pharma continues to earn Billions while other industries are headed toward bankruptcy.

You must be new here. Since I actually own a farm, I probably know more about it than you.

Machinery has pretty much replaced everything famers used to do.

I’m a capitalist. In capitalism, the rewards go to the most efficient producers. There are no guaranteed jobs.

And nobody really needs a secretary any more, other than to screen phone calls. I can type my own memos.

Well, a small farmer that raises snails for escargot probably can manage their own books. I'll grant you that. 😆

Well, I assumed you sold the farm since YOU said we don't need farmers. All that machinery works all by its self and never ever needs any type of maintenance or repair or even someone to point it in the right direction. I guess you have NEVER worked in an actual OFFICE. I can name plenty of Attorneys that would greatly disagree with your statement. Secretaries and paralegals and other admin staff are what makes the office work and run smoothly. Most great attorneys well tell you its their staff that makes them great.

When I was a really young kid in the early 70s, my dad and my uncle farmed 300 acres. We had a four-row corn planter, and a two-row combine. There were a few really big farmers in our area that had about 1000 acres and having a six-row planter and six-row combine was top of the line.

Over time, tractors, combines, and implements such as planters become much larger, more powerful, and obviously more expensive. In the late 70s, my dad and uncle bought 120 acres of adjoining property at the Jimmy Carter-era high interest rates. It was a huge gamble but they had to expand and this opportunity was too good to pass up.

By the time my dad retired in the mid-2000s, we had an 8-row planter and combine. The really big farmers in our area (by this time, 5000+ acres) now have 16-row equipment. Basically, fewer farmers with larger equipment = higher productivity.
