Gators to Hire Ron Roberts as LB Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator ?

Reported Georgia Recruiting Budget a “Misnomer,” According to Kirby Smart

In a press conference on Tuesday, Kirby Smart challenged the accuracy of NCAA financial reports that indicate Georgia spent more on recruiting in 2022 than any of its peers in the SEC.

Kirby - UGA didn't really spend $4.5MM on recruiting & we don't own our own plane.

But hey Jeff, Billy did bring in Mertz, so who really needs a good but highly inexperienced HS QB in 23??? 😉
Insta,

As you have pointed out, jumping from HS to the SEC difficult.
True Fr QBs (or any other position) rarely accomplish miracles.

Mertz has 2 years to play at UF. Hope he plays well enough in 2023 to warrant having him be QB1 in 2024 - letting Lagway or Simmons ease into it for 2025.

I think the chance of our offense not struggling this year is pretty low. Do we actually think Mertz will be able to generate around 265 yards passing a game in the SEC to equal Richardson's combined yardage. Our RBs will be producing about the same as last season in our SEC games probably which was a good number.

Jeff, did you let Brown know yet, that he's just yet another wasted QB football ship that should just concentrate on getting his free education and playing baseball for Sully?

Or maybe one that could quickly explain the playbook to Brown.

And feveredbrains have you volunteered to be Billy's QB talent evaluator yet, since he's already 3 times proven to be incompetent in doing so for himself?

Or establish The Jeff Driscoll Center for Quarterbacks That Can't Football Good.

And while I'm here EW,,,, Jeffrey Adam Driskel is an American football quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League since 2016 (7 Yrs), so he's just another one of those NFL millionaire QB's with no talent.... Wish I was, how-bout you?

And after being a total waste of good oxygen while here at the Ville, he magically became that in the NFL.

How did that happen?

A FRIGGIN QUARTERBACKS COACH.

Fever,

See your point, but for some inexplicable reason, I maintain a glass 1/4 full POV with Mertz.

Like you, I don't see the 265 yds passing per game
BUT
AR wasn't always on target - passing or running.
when "AR was good, he was very, very good - when he was bad,
he was lousy !"

If Austin Armstrong is any good, our Defense will be better (not great but decent) & agree with your comment -
"...Our RBs will be producing about the same as last season in our SEC games probably which was a good number."

Even if Simmons shows up, he won't change anything in 2023 -
so we are where we are at QB.

Team will be better, but our schedule will tougher - probably a wash on our W/L Record.

As long as we never go to the L V Bowl again, I will be happy.

The UGA offer has officially replaced the Alabama offer as the one recruits covet the most, and that’s telling.

Alabama isn’t going away anytime soon and the Buckeyes continue to run the north.

LSU has the biggest home-state advantage in all of recruiting and continues to roll even with Brian Kelly’s “average” recruiting reputation.

Clemson is just as steady as anyone with fewer offers and fewer decommitments than anyone.

LSU Football Players Show Off New Air-Conditioned Helmets and College Football Fans Are Amazed

EDIT
Description in article & my failure to do my homework has resulted in some Hyperbole

Not really an a/c as I think of one, an internal air flow system
which installs in helmet - blow air over head & face.
See below.

Players on the team were shown in a TikTok video trying on these helmets- which last up to five hours- and reacting to the immediate improvement they show from current helmets.

I'm sure they are well padded - wouldn't want to damage the A/C unit.
Wonder if they make a heat pump version - A/C & Heat for those cold Northern places where the funny white stuff falls out of the sky ?

Another thought - what do they cost ?
Another line in the sand between the haves & have nots in CFB ?

Look out FSU -
"That’ll go a long way on an early September Saturday in Orlando," one Twitter user wrote.

I'm not a member of Tik Toc - couldn't find video - if anyone would care to help out please post it.

SEC Releases 2023 Football Schedule

Very old

BUT
Good for a starting point

Ugh, once again we haven't used our home cookin' Swamp afternoon full sun heat and humidity for big home games like Tennessee. It's OK for the cupcakes at night but against decent teams, we need all the intangibles in our favor for home games since you know we ain't the team that boatraces anyone like we used to years ago.

Jersey,

Start all games at Noon once we get our air conditioned helmets !

Will that take care of the 'Hot Heads' that throw shoes, or the violent that get thrown out of games? If so, then get the AC helmets in here today....

And could they also sneak in a radio receiver in the QB's helmet to pass him the calls???

And Smart is out there saying the tampering in the portal needs to be cleaned up. Pretty easy to say when you are just one of the very few teams out there that doesnt need to rely on the portal much to have a playoff team.

2024 SEC Football Scheduling - 8 + 1

**In the joint meeting with the Presidents and Chancellors and Athletics Directors, an update was provided on the SEC's scheduling approach for each sport. It was announced that the SEC established a scheduling format for the 2024 football season as it continues to finalize a long-term strategy as a 16-team conference.

In the one-year schedule, SEC teams will play eight conference games plus one required opponent from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 or major independent during the 2024 season when the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas join the league.

In addition, the SEC will eliminate divisional standings beginning in 2024.
The SEC Championship Game will feature the two top teams in the Conference standings at the end of the regular season.
The single-standings format will allow every school to play every other school a minimum of two times in a four-year period, regardless of whether the SEC utilizes an 8-game or 9-game format for future Conference competition.

Each school's opponents for the 2024 season will be announced June 14 on a special primetime show on the SEC Network, and dates of games will be announced at a later date."

So since ESPN hasnt ponied the money up yet what do they do with games like Auburn - GA and Bama - TN? Schedule them for 2024 hoping for a 9 game deal prior to 2025?

Andrew Spivey's

Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: June 1st edition

Can Florida sign at least 1 elite OL recruit? Worrisome that the
2 OL coaches seem to be able to develop players,
but
don’t have any juice on the trail.

AS:
I think they will land at least one but possibly even more elite offensive line recruits. Ethan Calloway and Fletcher Westphal are the top two guys that the Gators are in good shape for heading into visits.

Both of them fit the mold CBN trying to fill at OT.

June 2nd visit - 4* OT Ethan Calloway – LSU leads, Gators trending up

Per 1st & 10
June 16 visit - 4* OT Fletcher Westphal
June 16 visit - 4* IOL Liam Andrews

Fever,

Simple rules for 2024, no need for fairness or equity in scheduling.
Just
play 8 SEC games & 1 OOC game from a power 5 conference - weak sister or juggernaut - doesn't matter - right ?

Nothing to stop teams from dropping all these high quality OOC opponents now on their schedules & scheduling weak sisters real fast is there ?

The SEC office has the power to schedule games as they see fit.
No division games; no permanent out of division opponents, no rotating out of division opponents.

Nothing to stop them from including Auburn - GA and Bama - TN as part of the mandated 8 SEC games for those teams.

If they were still debating scheduling, don't think they would have posted statement on official SEC website.

I don't think the 2024 schedule is binding for any future years.
If SEC Commish Greg Sankey gets pissed & decides to slap some of the teams who didn't vote his way around, It will just be a gigantic Mulligan as far as future schedules.

Unless that happens, I am sure that the teacher's pets - Bama & UGA will have "favorable" schedules & they will settle things in the SECCG & both will have a shot at CFP.

Yep I would be real surprised if Bama - TN and GA - Auburn etc isnt scheduled. My thinking is they are buying time hoping ESPN comes around by the 2025 season. This will be strange if ESPN doesnt pony up for 9 games by 2025 though. We will probably get road games at A&M and Oklahoma in 2024.

Fever,

TAMU or Texas ?

Could see us having to play both Oklahoma & Texas in 1st 2 years, but hopefully not both of them on the road in 1st year.

SEC offices & Sankey are NOT big Gator fans - L V Bowl comes to mind real quick !

I seem to recall both the Gators & Bama played both Missouri & TAMU the 1st year they joined the SEC.

Think both of us won both games.

Fever,

Bound to be a WHOLE LOT of politicking & horse trading before 2024 schedules announced.

Gives Sankey room to schedule all sorts of interesting games - Texas vs TAMU & others.

Hope CBN & UF are NOT on Sankey's "bad boy list."

Sankey can SCREW any team he wants & then he can claim "to even things up"
LOL
in the next 3 years.

You might be able to guess a lot of our 2024 opponents if you figure in the 2nd rivalry games for quite a few teams. I doubt LSU or Tenn for us are deemed priority games though for 2024 but by the luck of the draw we could play them both.

Fever,

Sankey expressed a desire for a 9 game SEC schedule - he didn't get it.
No one knows what happened behind the scenes at the Spring Meeting or how pissed off Sankey is.

Hopefully he realizes it's important for member schools to sell tickets & generate revenue - ongoing rivalries important.

Hopefully he takes some time to cool down & think calmly & dispassionately & remembers that he works for all the member schools not vice versa.

Several imperatives -
He must schedule 8 new SEC games each for Texas & Oklahoma.

Texas for sure & possibly Oklahoma expect to play TAMU.

Certain other primary rivalries MUST BE ACCOMMADATED -
Florida - Georgia, Auburn - Alabama. Ole Miss - Miss State, etc.

If Sankey refuses to do that, will he be replaced ?

Will he default to a 7 + 1 scheduling model or do something totally different ?

I'm sure the SEC scheduling office has already worked out several possible 8 & 9 game schedules. Finding 16 games for Texas & Oklahoma, while keeping current members happy, puts Sankey on the hot seat.

SEC - with Big ten right behind them - guilty of extreme stupidity - "they need us; selling our inventory of league games will always command these inflated prices; our income is guaranteed."

Economics doesn't work that way as SEC & Sankey are finding out.

All SEC football games do NOT have the same viewer appeal - therefor, Vandy vs Arkansas does not have the same value as Texas vs Texas A&M, Auburn vs Alabama or Florida vs Georgia.

ESPN is laying people off & hemorrhaging (i.e. losing) money & is unable to "Pony Up" for SEC ninth game.

Big Ten already has nine game league schedule - probably why their TV contract generates more money.

ESPN & other media/broadcast companies already paying more than the games are worth on today's market.

Market & pricing bound to seek some equilibrium.

Will be interesting to see what develops.

My comments (above), were already too long so I dumped this in a new post -

What to make of 16-team SEC’s plans for eight-game schedule

By
David Wunderlich
-
May 30, 2023

“Without the incentive of additional revenue from the network, more than half of the league is in support of remaining at eight games in the first year that Texas and Oklahoma begin play in 2024. The expectation is that ESPN, in the midst of layoffs, will not commit to additional revenue for a ninth game—at least not now.”

https://www.gatorcountry.com/feature/what-to-make-of-16-team-secs-plans-for-eight-game-schedule/

What is the Gators’ ideal eight game schedule?

One writer's opinions.

WLOCP #1 on his list - mine too !

https://hailfloridahail.com/2023/06/02/florida-football-gators-ideal-eight-game-schedule/

Of course Will Thomas is the same writer who gushed about the Gators wearing (& BUYING) Black Jerseys.

Though Tebow Time didn't respond to my queries about how his Dad (a big Bama fan) would react to a Black Bama jersey, Evil & several other long time posters did express their thoughts about such an obviously commercial exercise as selling Black Gator Jerseys.

IMO, SOS would never have endorsed Black Jerseys.
