Gator's 2024-25 Recruiting / Portal

Not surprised. I only wish he would have stepped up and lived up to his 4 star rating. He's a good kid. My son even brought him into my home on a few occasions as they were teammates at Oakleaf, till he transferred to Trinity.

I thought he had promise with that early SC game but it never worked out.

Sounds like we may get Johntay Cook the WR from TX. Didn't do much in his 2 years at TX but the ranking places still have him as a strong 4 star as a transfer. Not sure if it was just TX having good NFL talent keeping him on the bench in his 2nd season or not. Kind of crazy he is rated higher than the UCLA transfer WR we got when that kid showed on the field in 2022 what he could do with a good situation.

Much appreciated, Nick the D ck!

Don’t forget about Brad.

I understand all these receiver transfer portals that we are trying to get with experience but if you keep Dallas Wilson, Tre Wilson and Vernell Brown's catches to low numbers they will jet. I watch too many games with true freshman players tearing it up. Just look at the freshman receiver from Alabama Ryan Williams.

Just for a change of pace, here's the Rivals class rankings:

#9 Gator's 2025 Recruiting Class per Rivals:

26 Total - 1 5-star, 14 4-stars, 7 3-stars, 3 2-stars, 1 NR

With 3 of the 4-stars having a 6.0 rating, just below being 5-stars.

DB Hylton Stubbs 6-2 190 ***** 6.1 - Jacksonville, FL

WR Dallas Wilson 6-3 200 **** 6.0 - Tampa, FL

WR Vernell Brown III 5-11 170 **** 6.0 - Orlando, FL

QB Tramell Jones 6-1 195 **** 6.0 - Jacksonville, FL
=====

From the other end of that scale:

OC/LS Mack Mulhern 6-2 207 ** - Scottsdale, AZ

K Evan Noel 6-2 150 ** - Bay Saint Louis, MS

K Hayden Craig 6-2 191 ** - North Bridgton, ME

TE Cameron Kossmann 6-6 245 NR - Chesterfield, MO (S.I. 2-star)
(only other offer was from Penn, where UF flipped him from....)

Very few true freshman WRs excel in the SEC until the latter part of their first season or their 2nd season. I hope we have a rare one that can dominate right off the bat.

Just like Ike and Reidel. Brett Musberger creamed himself over those then young freshmen studs. Only problem is they had Doering, Aubrey Hill and Jack Jackson ahead of them.

Yes they did but no such thing as a transfer portal back in those good ole days. I was watching a game the other day and one of the commentators said the days of most players staying with their original team the full 4 years are OVER. Go back to making them sit out a year and you will cut that team swapping OUT.

Johntay Cook is set to visit the University of Florida this upcoming weekend. They initially had an offer for him during Dan Mullen's tenure with the Gators, so it will be interesting to see how things go this time around. Billy Napier and the Gators staff will be looking to add the speedy receiver to the team, and he makes sense for what they want to do on offense, which is all about speed.

The Gators are trying to reset their offense for next season, and they've been looking for talent that could help complement what they're trying to accomplish. Getting a commitment from Cook would be huge for them

We are pushing very hard for Johntay Cook

With Lagway, we need to be able to go 5 wide at times with 5 top caliber WR.

Cook, Sturdivant, Tre Wilson, VB3 and Dallas Wilson would give you that.

5 WR with serious NFL futures.

Mizell, Hawkins and Abrams will all be right there in the rotation as well with their blazing speed.

Then the new OC will have everything he needs every game when you add in our RB room. Spread those WR out and the D will have to play only 5 men in the box. The RB will have huge lanes to make huge gains.

2025 season can't get here fast enough!

We hired an OC?

Speaking of OC, read online that our fanbase is going to go nuts if the person that is potentially our next OC does in fact become our next OC. Anybody in the know care to leak who it could be? I'm ready to go nuts, haha.

Not sure but if we do hire one I think that Chip Kelly stuff is just nonsense. Not sure he would even be a good choice now.

Does Napier ever go with 5 WRs? Curious if he even goes with one TE sets more than 2 TE sets.

I believe Brown III and D Wilson will be as good as Ike and Reidel, IMO anyway.

Here's hoping we can get three full seasons of Lagway.....if we do, then we're going bonkers with all these offensive weapons we're stockpiling and going to be blowing teams out the water......ahh yes, visions of sugar plums dance in my head (i.e. lots of 56-10 type scoreboards we got accustomed to in yesteryears), haha. Defense is finally playing with passion after years of garbage and Offense talent is being gathered.....the combo is getting us excited, haha.

Need to upgrade the oline. Hopefully these kids catch on quick.

Totally agree. We are very good, plus deep at RB & WR, need to shore up the O-line becauwe it all depends on how well they can block against SEC quality defenses. Slaughter and Barber coming back are excellent starts, but you never never have enough good linesmen on either side of the ball.

We are all super excited about DJ, but candidly our 2 signature wins, LSU and Ole Miss we only had 330 and 340 yards respectively. The improvement in the defense was substantial, but in reality, our offense had not improved much if any from the start of the season. DJ looks to be that next gen talent, but if we don't get better up front it won't matter.

For anyone calling for SPEED and/or size at WR for 2025:

They have speeeeeeeeed out the wazoo for 2025 imo.

WR Eugene Wilson III 5-10 183 rsSo -- 11.36 100M - 22.85 200M - 4.32/40
WR Aidan Mizell 6-1.5 186 rsSo ------- 10.65/100M - 46.99/400M
WR 'Tank' Hawkins 5-9.5 176 So ------ 10.37/100M - 6.70/60M
WR TJ Abrams 5-10 197 rsFr ----------- 10.62 100M - 4.38/40
-----
WR Dallas Wilson 6-3 193 Fr --------- 11.00 100M & 22.56 200M
WR Vernell Brown III 5-11 170 Fr -------- 4.51/40

https://247sports.com/longformartic...tone-texas-tech-miami-tcu-illinois-227246922/

And for Size/Ht at WR:

WR Kahliell Jackson ------- 6-3 215 rsSr - injured out in 2024
WR J. Michael Sturdivant - 6-3 205 Sr - Cal/UCLA sfer-in
WR Muizz Tounkara ------- 6-3.5 195 Fr - newbee
WR Dallas Wilson ---------- 6-3 193 Fr - (Ht & Spd newbee)

With quality, size, speed, and depth in addition to the above WR's.
And don't forget the loaded rooms of TE's and RB's as receivers....

The receivers for 2025 are rock solid imo, now they just need someone that KNOWS how to get the most out of them on game days....

The need for an OC seems obvious to most of us fans it seems to me.
Why is that you might ask??? --- 2024 Team Rankings in the SEC:
9. TD's Scored
11. Scoring Offense
12. Passing Offense
13. Total Offense
13. Total Offense Yards
15. Total Offense Plays

In 10 games this season, the Gators scored 14 or fewer points in the first half. They only reached at most 10 points in the first half six times and were held scoreless twice. This can’t happen if Florida expects to compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

One statistic that shows this, is the number of times the punter was on the field. Florida was 2nd in the SEC in punts this year with 56 in total, only trailing 1st-place Oklahoma by two. A pretty good read at the link....

ILB Shemar James 6-1.25 229 Jr - Mobile, AL - Departing Early to NFL Draft
While he will be missed, it doesn't look to be a critical loss due to the loaded 2025 roster.
=====

July 2024 Gator Bio Ht/Wt & Class:

ILB Grayson 'Pup' Howard 6-4 238 So - Jacksonville, FL - SCa xfer-in

ILB Jaden Robinson 6-0.25 230 So - Lake City, FL

ILB Myles Graham 6-0.75 228 Fr - Gainesville, FL - Earnest Legacy

ILB Aaron Chiles 6-2.5 234 Fr - Largo, MD

ILB Matthew Kade 6-0 206 Fr - Gainesville, FL - WO
Had 90 TKL's, 18.0 TFL, 5 sacks, 2 FF, 1 Int, and blocked a punt his Sr. year.

ILB Jake Xeller 6-2.25 243 Fr - Reston, VA - WO
Earned back-to-back all-district honors his HS junior and senior years.

#12 LB Ty Jackson 6-1 200 HS **** EE - Loxahatchee, FL - UA-AA - USC Flip

Named to the 247Sports' All-Combine Team for the National Combine.
Defense: 135 tackles, 4 TFLs, 4 FF 2 sacks, 2 INT and a FR along with
Offense: 15 receptions for 257 yards and 5 TD in 2023.
While he won't play offense at UF, it will aid him in drop back pass coverage.

He's an absolute difference maker in every phase of the game.

#27 LB Myles Johnson 6-1 220 HS *** - Brewton, AL - UA Flip

Also plays B-Ball 10.5 Pts, 6.3 Rbs, and Track, 11.15 100M - 23.17 200M.
Looks to the iG like he might be one of those under-rated 'sleeper' steals....

Totally agree with this assessment. I think Myles Graham is due for a breakout season. Howard, Robinson & Chiles were all good this year and will only get better. Jackson seems to be the real deal as an incoming freshman as well.
