FSU Amends ACC Lawsuit…

As the only remaining member of the RRT, let me just say:

Every fanbase has it's a-holes. SMU fans were throwing beer bottles at FSU players DURING the game, then trying to start fights with kids and elderly after the game.
There are many Gator fans I hate being around at BHG in Gainesville, like the idiot who kept crying for Lagway during the UF-Miami game. He would never shut up until other Gator fans told him to do so. He left with his shirt off for some reason. As for the SMU and FSU fans, I guess that's what being justifiably left out of the CFP along with a 2-10 record the following season and the fact SMU will never get back to the level of the Eric Dickerson/Craig James days will do to both teams.

I was at the SMU game and they stopped it twice to address fans throwing stuff at the players. After the game they tried picking a fight with an elderly man with a cane AND my 11-year old son. It was mostly a bunch of rich, entitled white kids. It made scUM and UGA fans look classy.

Dallas, San Antonio and Houston are the main areas I hated passing thru.

Well what do you expect from a school where the ultra rich send their kids (if they don’t go to USC) and the yearly tab is about $90K? And that’s BEFORE the dues to their fraternity or sorority?

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Under the old CFP format it was about conference and $$$. Now it's just about the $$$ (and this fixes much of that for the time being). Otherwise it's "Win and you're in."

Personally, I'd like to see ND become a full ACC member and I think that and a good UNC (and FSU) could elevate the ACC. The ACC is certainly no B12, IMO.

Personally, I hate what's happening in college sports, especially football. The SEC and Big 10 are on the edge of making all other conferences irrelevant in college football.

They seriously need to tone back the portal unless a player has no shot of ever playing at their current college or they are 5th year seniors. The NIL is a serious CF and college athletics will never be the same again. There should be limits on how much an "amateur" can get from that. Otherwise, college sports are just a farm league for the pros.

College sports have always been farm leagues, and paid farm leagues at that. It's just the payment went from below the table to above the table, which allowed for increases in the payments. Right now, we have players actually staying for their fourth year because they can make money in college. Is it worse than a world where the best cheaters win all the titles?

What it is, is unbridled capitalism, and a look at what the NFL might be like without the CBA.

LG I agree with this point. I'm not a fan of the wild wild west of the NIL, but I do like it keeping kids in school. The transfer portal is doing more damage in my humble opinion. Need some tighter rules around both.

The Tally poors begging for money and got slapped back to reality huh?

Urban Meyer seems to think it's almost a done deal that the Big 10 and SEC will force it that they are guaranteed 4 CFP spots each and the ACC and Big 12 will get 2 each.

Also a cap on NIL.
While I agree in principle, there really is no way to do this. The only way to even get close to it would be to use the NFL model, but that means a CBA, which means a union, which means the players become employees of the school, or at least the athletic department, if they are separated, like at UF. And that is it's own enormous can of worms.

Even in the pro leagues, part of the deal in choosing a workplace can be endorsement opportunities. I remember Shaq leaving Orlando for LA, part of the reason he went there was because he thought he was a rapper and producer, and would get to act in movies (and did get a movie, something about a genie, I forget).

But the NFL also has the draft. Imagine college with a draft. "Now on the clock, McNeese State, they have needs all over the board, but several 5 stars remain available for them to choose from". :p But along with the draft they have the rookie salary cap, and in college it's the rookies getting the most money. I don't see the NFL model being something usable.

The only hope is that the rich people get tired of throwing their money at players to go to their favorite school, and maybe some economics takes hold. But some of these billionaires are willing to pledge 20-30 million a year, forever. I like to think I can figure out things sometimes, but I got nothing here. This looks unfixable to me. You can't fix it with economics when there are people giving them free money all over the place, you can't fix it with price fixing (even if Congress gave them a bunch of exemptions), because of the tradition of cheating to win. Who can you trust to stick to a salary cap?

I guess this is why the NCAA has thrown in the towel.
