Call sadgator crazy, but sadgator thought Napier did a great job of having the team ready to play. Some questionable in game moments, but anyone could have that. The offensive play calling was fine. In fairness to the guy, you have to let the season play out before any decisions are made. Like it or not, that is what they are going to do.
I would have put the ball in DJ's hands and went for 2 and try to win the game in regulation timeWhat other coach would call that with a 240 lb QB that can run and then follow up on another drive with Mertz running it in that situation. Moronic playcalling.
Scared money don’t make no money is the exact opposite of what we did. Instead of rolling the dice on the two point try we played it safe and went for OT. I guarantee you Tennessee fans exhaled when we did that.
Well, @sadgator was almost right. I was surprised at the play and effort of our guys tonight. The game was lost in the first half and to me the loss came down to 2 things - Mertz going out for the game in the 3rd quarter and Billy Napier's consistently awful playcalling. I thought we would get blown out, but it actually should have been the other way around. We dominated them until midway through the 3rd quarter. But it seems Heupel made some adjustments, we didn't and then Lagway (or the coach) forgot about our tight ends, who Mertz had killed UT with, and kept trying to force it to the wide receivers. I was proud and pleased with the team's effort, but it's hard to overcome terrible play calling.

That is true. It was a damned if you do/don’t kinda thing. But you had to win the game at some point.Scared money don’t make no money is the exact opposite of what we did.
That is a ridiculous statement by the way.Team is improving but Napier holding us back
sadgator will also point out, for what it is worth, that with the time left, going for 2 didn’t ensure a victory. They could have still kicked a field goal to beat us, which would have made the 2 pointless.Scared money don’t make no money is the exact opposite of what we did.

sadgator is no Napier apologist, but good golly, everybody needs to cut the guy some slack. If you wonder why Florida is in the terrible predicament it is as a football program…this line of thinking is exactly why.
The next revolving door candidate will do no better if we don’t display some patience or aren’t willing to even see the positive when it presents itself…
It feels so hopeless for us…
Of course hindsight is always 20-20 but I’ll say it anyway. I would rather give them 29 seconds to make 50 yards than 25 yards and all the time they need. The missed FG in OT forced the defense to try to get a takeaway or a TFL. Tennessee having to burn that timeout on the 2 point try increased our chances had it been successful.sadgator will also point out, for what it is worth, that with the time left, going for 2 didn’t ensure a victory. If we had scored on the last play in regulation or with like under 10 seconds left on the clock, sadgator thinks the “go for it” analysis is a bit different since the win would be definitive.
I don’t think it feels hopeless. We’re right there with the Tennessees of the world as we just saw. We just need a coach who doesn’t trip over his own d**k so much. That is a ridiculous statement by the way.

I think if he wins 5 or 6 games he’s got a real good chance to keep his job. Stricklin does not want to write this guy a check for $30m.
Yeah I was going to say if they have a deal with Kiffin, that could change things. Better chance of that now I would think with Kiffin looking to miss the playoffs. There is a better chance since the Mertz injury can be used in their arguments. I could see a scenario where they force an OC on him. The boosters already pooled the money to fire him if needed though. It could come down to whether a Kiffin or someone like that was going to take the job or not if Napier was able to beat KY and LSU. If they said no then Napier might survive.
I wanted the HS recruit instead of yet another LOSER xfer QB in 2023.Look, sadgator ain’t no expert football mind, but sadgator honestly saw some pretty decent play calling during that game all things considered. Tennessee’s defense is very good, and we were moving the ball very effectively with both QB’s notwithstanding the red zone mistakes.
At this point, sadgator isn’t arguing for Napier, he’s just trying to be objective about it. It wasn’t some incompetent mess like some want to suggest. It was a competent effort that fell just short.
That's it, almost half the losses Napier has piled up would be wins if he wasn't dumb. Biggest staff in UF history and from the top down nobody is on point.I don’t think it feels hopeless. We’re right there with the Tennessees of the world as we just saw. We just need a coach who doesn’t trip over his own d**k so much.
I mean we’re in year 3 and we’re still losing games because we can’t get lined up right on special teams. I don’t think I ever saw that once until CBN came on the scene.
We don't have a single current starting Oline that is projected to play on Sundays. Vandy has 2.I wanted the HS recruit instead of yet another LOSER xfer QB in 2023.
They lied to Max Brown resulting in his xfer-out at the end of 2023.
Graham's 'statistical accomplishments' resulted in a 5-7 season with not even a crap bowl to go to...
Collar bone - Concussion - ACL = 7-10 as the starter in his last 1.5 xfer-in seasons.
I didn't want him back for 2024, but Billy did and now we see the continuing loser results....
Nothing personal here, I don't know either personally, they seem to be decent enough people, but
"YOU ARE WHAT YOUR W/L RECORD SAYS YOU ARE."
Would the team be in any worse condition, and maybe in much better condition, if DJ had been invested in, coached up hard, and groomed all off season to be the 2024 starter?
Now add to that the incompetent OC that Napier hired to run his offense. 🤓
Coaching decisions, GOOD AND BAD, make or break a HC's career.
The Gator defense beat the rubber-dollies, but the OC chocked yet again.
The DEI hires at Socialist-U are going about as expected imoho.....
"If not for ridiculously conservative play calling from the offensive staff, the Gators emerge from Knoxville as an upset winner." -- SI article
"While he has plenty of playing time and a start under his belt this season, next week against the Wildcats, the DJ Lagway era will begin in earnest." --- SI article
The remaining major problem with that is having the same OC, system, and game day play caller....
"With three years of eligibility remaining, hitching a ride on the Lagway bandwagon looks like the prudent gesture at this time and place." -- SI article
Sorry, too little and too late for Napier IMO, because Billy himself is the one that remains un-coachable....
And for a 2nd opinion there's this....
As the iG as said repeatedly and now this SI writer agrees.....
"Florida, in this game showed why Billy Napier should probably head out of town. They possess talent all over the roster, teeming with speed and playmaking ability. Yet, they cannot get over the hump. Florida loses not because of a lack of talent."

I just think Billy Bozo is dumb, not just in any particular subject matter but overall plain dumb.I wanted the HS recruit instead of yet another LOSER xfer QB in 2023.
