Florida @ Tenn

Well here's the good news in all of this, as the season has played out thus far, we see that Kentucky, UGA, LSU, and Ole Miss are not the world beaters we originally thought they would be and we can actually be competitive. Texas is going to smack us around, but they may be the best in the nation. FSU looks awful, really awful. Now the question begs can we adapt the offense and will the defense continue to improve? But what once looked like would be an 0 for 6 finish to the season, now actually looks like we may be able to win 1 or 2 of these.

Our second half play calling was brutal. We ran the same stuff over and over and they were all over it. I bet, if you factor penalties in, we lost yards on as many plays as we gained yards in the second half. Lagway can make plays. Get him moving and let him throw down the field.
one thing I can tell you, other coaches laugh at how bad Billy is as a play caller all around the sport.. He's a high school level play caller

So sad we are relying on the hope that other teams suck MORE than we do.

Yikes.

im sure that anyone can notice by now, if we line up in pistol with the back behind the QB it's a zone run at least 98% of the time.. Especially when Wilson or the slot are getting their daily steps in for cardio motioning across the face of the formation. Then we motion to empty on at least 60% of our passes, it's impressive how elementary the offense is.. The system is fine, but they don't use any of what the system gives you options of doing.

If we actually got into the details of our offense it would amaze even the most regular fan how pedestrian and simple it is.. Lagway is somehow smart enough as a freshmen to at least check us into and out of a lot of disasters already.. He checked us into the biggest run of the night against UCF.. and kept the drive going starting at our own 10 in Knoxville with two different checks at the right time. That kid is smart and doing the most with what he can

Its crazy how little we have gotten out of Wilson. I think he was overhyped some looking at things now but on another team I bet he would be putting up some pretty good numbers. Some good DBs have given him trouble though. He is talented but not a very top SEC talent.

Wilson would tear it up in many other offenses.. He's the perfect slot in college to run man beaters with all day, for instance if you go for two at the end of the game any option route with him would have been unstoppable you just find a way to get him man'd up in space. You notice how as soon as Lagway comes into the game the passes start going to the wideouts instead of all TE and RB dump offs. Lagway will find a way to get him the ball going forward

you get the right coach they won't need to leave.. the right coach with this teams QB, backfield, TE's and WR group we have would show you just how bad Napier has been.. They have enough talent to be a really good offense in the future. Split formations with these young backs and Lagway for RPO and Reads would be very hard to stop. Kiffin for example would annihilate people with what we already have and then he'd just add more top talent at Wideout and Rb to it

Football is still a line of scrimmage game. Look at the last few national champs. Won't matter who we have at QB or WR if the offensive line play doesn't improve.

Trust your input.

With the poor job that he's done with the OL, the dual threat QB's (Brown/Lagway) that could run for their lives and hit receivers on the run would have had a much better chance to win games than Graham with Napier's clown show.

Nothing against Mertz, he might have been a pretty good QB with a different team/HC....
Mertz reminds me of Wuerffel with the Saints OL, as opposed to how Danny might have done with a coach and system like San Fran was running back then.....
Your last sentence is spot on.

do you think the OL and overall recruiting would get worse or better with a name like Kiffin taking over? It's more important who he would decide on to run the defense than anything else.. Same with a Lincoln Riley, you hire guys like this and offensive execution and consistency aren't going to be your problem anymore.

Curious to see what happens against KY.

OL recruiting certainly couldn't get any worse.

Gators who went to Knoxville said the Checker fans were in shock after the game.

They realize they are overrated. UF is awful.
These were the same fans who called for Nico iamadipschitt to start early last season over whoever was their QB last season. Won't be long before they ask for the backup.

2X NC OC and Gator's winning HC Dan Mullen wasn't the problem.

Socialist-U was and still is a big part of the problems over the last 10+ years imo..
Hiring someone that can put up with and maneuver through the current situation is going to be an ongoing problem.

It's too bad Cousin Eddie decided to wait for "recruiting season" to take recruiting seriously.

well I'm completely aware of this.. but something is going to have to change that if they ever wanna be serious about Football again.

Florida has a systemic and cultural problem that goes FAR beyond the head coach…sadgator has been saying this for years…it is true…it is not fantasy or hyperbole. Nor is it conjecture or speculation. It is very real.

Mullen pretty much said this (although he did not point the finger directly at Florida) just last week on Full Ride while talking generally about SEC programs who are not committed to winning and wind up hiring coaches every 3-5 years…it was pretty transparent what he was talking about…and it is true.

People want to believe that we can just hire a Lane Kiffin (which we absolutely will not) or some other “big splash” hire who will instantly fix the program, but that isn’t going to happen. There is no savior coming. There are SERIOUS problems within. We are in a dark era.

There's just no excuse for Florida to be as bad as they are just operationally.. You are bound to accidentally hire the right guy even if you're incompetent at UF, there's too much talent in state and on your rosters historically to just have a staff that gets in the way and causes them to lose games. Some of the best coaches now are the ones at small schools for years, and then they make a jump and still dominate because they're used to winning with less.. I see teams like Indiana and it's just crazy how well coached they are everywhere and they're doing it with one of those coaches I mentioned in his first year at a bigger school. If someone can look that good in year one at Indiana, someone can do it at UF.. It's not some massive rebuild like we are Umass

Just for fun, Indiana's offensive system is awesome

IU coach Curt Cignetti has been a winner everywhere he's stopped at. Although he's 63, I'd seriously consider him as a replacement for Sling Blade. Another thing to look at is he's at a basketball school.

First there needs to be a house cleaning at SOCIALIST-U, then hiring can be addressed with real change to come.

See my 'Hammer Time' post on this thread....

Oh my god, Insta has figured out how to post himself.

Do you talk to the Missus in the third person? "The sadgator is READY TO RUMBLE in the sheets." Perhaps less is more would be the key to the bedroom?
No. sadgator’s not that big of a douche.

Although it is funny that after all this time I do sometimes think in sadgator’s voice in my head. “What would sadgator say? sadgator thinks…”

Always things I cannot say…

Napier is 1-9 against Florida's main rivals in FSU, Miami, Georgia, Tennessee and LSU.
Napier has also never beaten Kentucky.

"One thing I can say about our team is I do think that we are improving," - BN

The players seem to be, but the game day coaching looks to still be a problem...
Florida returns to the field on Saturday night for a matchup against Kentucky,
who has won three-straight in the series, and 4 of the last 6...

Players Listed as OUT for UK:

  • QB Graham Mertz (Season-ending ACL tear)
  • RB KD Daniels
  • WR TJ Abrams
  • WR Marcus Burke
  • WR Kahleil Jackson (Season-ending ACL injury)
  • TE Tony Livingston
  • OL Devon Manuel
  • DL Jamari Lyons (Season-ending broken ankle)
  • LB RJ Moten
  • DB Ja’Keem Jackson (Lower-body)

Listed as Questionable:

  • RB Montrell Johnson Jr.
  • RB Treyaun Webb
  • OL Austin Barber
  • DB Bryce Thornton
  • DB Asa Turner
  • LS Rocco Underwood

There's a chance Asa Turner could have been the difference against Tennessee with UF struggling in the red zone.
